“Great Food with an Outstanding View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

My wife and I and a couple of friends stopped by for lunch at the Dock. It is about 15 minutes from the Gatun Locks and not well marked but worth the trip. The area around the hotel and restaurant is beautiful and it is right on the harbor. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside because there was a nice breeze and the weather was warm. Living in Panama for 5 years we can’t hardly take the AC.

The wait staff was excellent and spoke okay to good English. They were prompt on their services and drinks and refills were brought out quickly. The menu is good with many selections and there is a daily special.

Two of us had the fish tacos and two had the Philly Cheese Steak. The fish tacos are breaded and in hard shell Ortega type tacos. They had lettuce and tomato. It comes with a very small salad (lettuce, tomato, and onion). The Philly beef was good but large than I’m accustomed to. The cheese and roll were very good but the onion were raw and they are normally sautéed. The wedge potatoes were outstanding. The other great note it is one of the few places (in fact the only place) that we have encountered that serves real brewed ice tea!

We had a great time, the food was good as was the service. My only issues was the Philly was $10.90 and the fish tacos were around $7.90. The prices are high for the portion size especially for Panama and you are not even remotely close to the heart of the tourist areas.

If you are out this way it is worth the stop and the food quality is great.

“A Good Place to be stranded”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

The Dock is locaqted at Shelter Bay Marina, about 15 miles outside Colon. It is the site of the former Ft. Sherman, the US base used when the canal was run by the US. We ate at the restaurant every night for 8 nights waiting for our boat repairs to be completed so we could resume our cruising of Panama. During the week, we sampled just about everything on the menu, plus a number of the nightly specials. During the week we got to know Chris, the chef and many of the friendly staff with whom we practiced our very rudimentary Spanish. They cheerfully cooperated, patiently speaking slowly and correcting our responses.
The menyu is varied, very good and inexpensive. Probably the favorite was stuffed corvina (sea bass).
The location is a bit off the beaten path, but the restaurant is great, and the hotel is not expensive. Plus bike rentals are available for a bike trip to Fort San Lorenzo on the Chagres River. Wandering around the abandoned base is also interesting, giving a very real sense of the scope of the original canal construction project.
