“Don't go there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

I booked a week-end stay at Sand Bay, Friday 4th October until Monday 7th October,a country and western week-end, Phil Mack Country show, the chalet was dirty, curtains stained, stains on walls, the bathroom very tiny, I am only a slim person and I struggled in there. This was an upgraded chalet which cost extra money, I dread to think what the standard chalets were like, however after one night in an uncomfortable bed we came home, I certainly would not go again or recommend any-one to go there, the camp wants a full upgrade or better still knocking down and re-building.Some of the reception staff were not very helpful, the food was o.k. nothing to rave about, just edible,

After reading earlier negative views about Sandbay ,i must admit we were wondering just what we were heading for !!! what a surprise !! it was lovely from the time we arrived untill the time we departed we were treated with the utmost civility ,nothing was too much trouble ,it was like one big happy family .We were on the Rock n Roll weekend and were treated to 10 live bands over the weekend ,of the utmost quality ,we thoroughly enjoyed it ,and the dining room was superb ,we were served very quickly and efficiantly by a mulitude of staff, who were very friendly and chatty ,even though they were busy .
we are definatly going to book again for next September as soon as the new brochure comes out ,We can't wait !!! Many Thanks Sandbay for a FAB time

chalet clean but hole behind radiator.Tea/coffee only on day of arrival, you had to pay for refills.chalet only "cleaned"once during stay.Food adequate but felt as if being rushed to eat it quickly so staff could get home.Salad bar excellent but that was the only redeeming feature.resident quartet good but everything else mediocre. Not enough room/space in ballroom, couldn't see what was happening on first evening, loads of chairs but nowhere to sit at. Staff put on a brave face and were smiling!!grounds well kept.

Room Tip: go somewhere else

This is a nineteen fifties holiday camp with rotting woodwork, peeling paint, unkempt areas of scrub, and chalets without a shower. The food is adequate but dining is regimented and fixed to a given time. The only redeeming feature for me was the entertainment, especially the resident quartet. Some staff were welcoming and eager to serve, others were surly and unresponsive. I will not be repeating the experience.

Once you turn in off the main road you are greeted with a 1960's holiday style camp. The trouble is very little has changed since the day it opened, so one would think. Carpets in the resturant and flithy, marked and need of a dam good clean. Food is of a very poor quality, but the staff are friendly and helpful. Once you enter your chalet, you are greeted by the local spiders who may have been there for a while. Rooms are basic, of poor quality and not overally clean. Nets are a dirty grey colour and doors don't tend to fit. Rooms are serviced on a Wednesday, well someone comes in to clean the sink, loo and possibly your cup! There's bingo everynight, and entertainment is reasonable as the staff do work hard to put on a good show.

Overall, not the ideal place for most people.
