whereas the facilities are nice, and the location is beautiful, the owners i found much less that the friendly, caring people mentioned in other reviews. i was recieved with less than a warm welcome, (though the directions were good and the keys were there) and pretty much ignored the rest of the time. garrett barely had a smile and said nothing more than a rough "hi", and dez, his partner, downright barked orders and just wasn't all that nice. for example, you are not allowed leave your clothes on the clothesline past 6 pm to dry, which is ridiculous if you're coming back from surf school at 4 pm with a soaking wet rash guard and nowhere to hang them in your room. and if you do accidentally leave your things out, you will find them gone in the morning, have to find dez, and then get yelled at about the rules. i had to steal my own things back several times... also in my room i had many many huge flying cockroaches over two inches long. i mentioned this to dez, and she said there were everywhere, and of course didn't offer any support or apologies. my room was right behind the kitchen, so i can only assume that the kitchen was a whole lot dirtier that i had thought. i asked all the other guests, and noone else had even seen a roach. the room i was in had no hooks, dresser, nowhere to put things so i ended up putting all my stuff in baggies to avoid roach infestation. and i bough some raid, stuffed towels in all the cracks, and still caught on average three to five huge roaches every night. it really was nasty.
i wish i could give the surf and board five stars but i can't. the facilities are nice, and i would stay there again, albeit on an upper floor without roaches. but i don't need to because as i found, there are many many other places to stay, and casa nancy rents huge two bedroom apartments with full kitchens for 100 bucks a night. with three other people, that's a great deal, and you won't get yelled at for breaking the rules.
all that said, i did enjoy my vacation, surfing was fun, rincon is gorgeous, the locals are friendly, and i would move there in a second.
