I am not one to complain, but I had a hard time staying here as it looked vastly different than the pristine image depicted online.
We paid $200 to stay one night. They put us on the first floor in a room that looked and smelled worse than a mediocre hotel on the side of the road. Walking in, all I smelled was bleach. I appreciated the cleanliness, but I know there are ways to clean that do not involve pure bleach. The room was damp and smelled like mildew. The lamp was finicky and flickered while I was trying to turn it on. The TV had few channels with poor quality. I was sure to use the safe (I'm not usually as paranoid, but being on the first floor in a crappy place, I felt the need to lock my stuff up), but it wasn't working. The maintenance guy (very friendly) had to come in with replacement batteries.
The food in their "award winning restaurant" sucked. It was overpriced and not very good. You could tell they were trying to make it seem fancy by coming around with bread held by tongs and little pats of butter. The grouper "catch of the day" tasted fishy, and the vegetables on the side were most likely frozen at one point. The "homemade" dessert seriously tasted like something out of a box. My friend and I couldn't help but crack up as we enjoyed our gourmet dessert that tasted like Sara Lee.
The pool area was overcrowded and a little dingy. The food at the pool bar left much to be desired. The whole place needed an upgrade. The furniture in the room was worn. When I asked the front desk for extra hand towels, they looked at me like I had two heads.
The only thing about it that was okay was the beach area. It was small but pretty clean, and we sat in the chaise lounges for a couple of hours. Compared with the other hotels we stayed at, however, this beach was not impressive.
I would absolutely NOT recommend Rincon of the Seas to any of my friends or family, nor would I ever stay there again. I was so excited to stay there, based on the website, but my enthusiasm turned to disappointment the second I arrived.
