“Worth the drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Not been here for over 20 years and very little has changed. Oldy worldy friendly pub in the middle of lovely Hampshire countryside. Loads of character. The very professional and friendly barman explained that they scource their draft beers/ales from local breweries within 50 miles of their location. As we were not driving we tried 3 different beers all of which were excellant with different characteristics and flavours. It was worth the trip just to experience the different beers. The Ploughman's lunch was a meal in itself and very tasty . All very reasonably priced.
Any US visitor in the area should try to make the visit - well worth the trip!

“The best by a long way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

This was the third time we had visited The Leather Bottle, and it has never failed to impress.

Went for a family dinner on Saturday. On arrival we were met with a friendly welcome and the offer to take a drink at the bar first or be seated. We chose to be seated, our drinks orders arrived promptly, including a free sample of the new real ale on tap. The drinks menu is vast including locally produced real ale. For mains, we took ribs, fish pie, duck, and the pasta (which was an entree) as a main. Each dish was excellent, and portion sizes were perfect. It was wonderful to find a pub that doesn't feel the need to include a portion of chips or a mountain of spuds with every dish.

Overall, the standard of food and service is excellent - it has quickly become our go-to pub of choice for an excellent value menu without the pretentious snobbery of many in-town restaurants.

“Certainly worth a visit - it’s a favourite of ours!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

It’s a bit of a trek from home to The Leather Bottle so it’s all the more special when we make the effort! We visited on Friday evening along with friends. Most of the tables seemed to be occupied - a good sign.

During the whole evening, the staff we encountered were friendly, chatty, professional and looked like they were enjoying their jobs - another good sign.

There is ample choice on the menu - about 8 starters and double this number of mains. Would say that the menu definitely appeals both to the traditional pub diners as well as those who are a bit more adventurous. We all chose different dishes for all three courses and all plates where cleaned up pretty well - portions are middling in size - presentation and flavour couldn’t be faulted. Service was just what you would wish!

There were about 4 real ales plus an ample wine list with about 50% of the wines under £20.

Of particular note were the sage and butternut squash tortellini, the pan-fried pork fillet and a bottle of Primitivo. Prices seem reasonable for what you get - this pub has a lovely relaxed ambience and some quirky decorations. We love it!

“Lovely food, friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

There was an unexpected chimney fire the day of our lunch booking. The restaurant staff communicated brilliantly with us, letting us know by phone what was happening and once at the restaurant bringing us free snacks while they struggled to get the kitchen gas back on. They even recommended nearby sister pubs we could eat at, but we were in no rush and eventually it got sorted out. When it was all systems go, our food arrived swiftly after ordering and was delicious. Mains were faultless, utterly tasty and deserts were to die for. Great beer, super friendly staff dealing with a nightmare situation very gracefully. Ambience of the pub was quiet and chilled - exactly what we wanted. The kids (aged between 4 and 9) could happily play around outside on the tractor, and we all felt at ease there the whole time. I would definitely recommend to others.
