“4 Days of bliss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Stayed here for four days after touring the Greek Islands by yacht. If you want a wild holiday don't stay here, if you want relaxation this is the place. Only one taverna and supermarket locally, but only a 30 min. walk to Souvala, a quiet fishing port with quite a few tavernas. The rooms were huge compared to what we have been used to on other Greek holidays and cleaned everyday. The weather was also superb. Its family run and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Its a pity its quite a trip to get there, but well worth it in the end. This has to be the best 4 days I have ever spent in Greece....

We have just retuned from 5 days at the Iredes and it more than matched our expectations even after reading so many positive reviews on trip advisor. The location and view is second to none.We Had a a very spacious and clean loft apartment with a mezzanine level which our 7 year old daughter really enjoyed. The pool was great with lots of space and right next to the sea if you preferred to swim there. It was always very peaceful around the hotel despite all 15 or so of the rooms being full.It really was the perfect end to our holiday having just got off a very hectic cruise in Piraeus and then jumped on the 45 minute ride to Aegina on the flying dolphin fast ferry. The real ace of the hotel is the owners and staff.Spiros with his mum and dad,Dimitra and Andreas were absolutely charming and could never do enough for us,while Daniel and Mikaela worked tirelessly all around the property from first thing in the morning and always made our huge fuss of our daughter..We love our food and thought the breakfast very good and extremely substantial every day.We had mentioned that we were looking for a good place for moussaka one evening and to our great surprise and delight Spiros told us that his dad had made us one.It was so good we stayed in for moussaka for 2 evenings along with greek salad and fava bean dip all made just for us and enjoyed on the terrace next to the sea with twinkling lights of Athens in the background. As you can imagine I was not ready to leave after 5 days and we are already planning on our return.Thank you again to Spiros and all the family for making us feel so very welcome.

This hotel is a true gem, located on the north side of Aegina between Souvala and Vagia with perfect views across the Saronic Gulf to Athens and Piraeus. We are a British couple living in Athens and return again and again to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Aegina is only 45 minutes by hydrofoil from Athens, so it is the perfect getaway for a stress free week or weekend. The hotel is family run and there is always a warm welcome waiting for us from the owners Dimitra and Andreas and their son Spiros. Every room has been individually designed to a very high standard (all have a sea view) and is cleaned daily with fresh towels and bedding provided. There is a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by plenty of sun loungers, so that even when full you never have a problem to find one. The hotel is situated right on the sea front, and in literally 20 paces you are in the crystal clear sea waters. We always look forward to starting our day with an Irides breakfast, you must try their freshly baked "Bougatza" Greek pastry which goes perfectly with an espresso. The omelettes are also amazing. For eating out for dinner there are two excellent tavernas within 5 minutes walking distance. There is also a small but well stocked supermarket also less than 5 minutes away on foot. I cannot stress enough how friendly the owners and staff are, nothing is too much trouble for them and their attention to the small details is what makes this hotel "Simply The Best" and why so many people, like ourselves, return again and again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We visited the hotel during the first week of August, so let's take it step by step...

1) Rooms: The rooms were very nice (but not very very nice). Spacious, extremely clean, with everything that is needed in order to be considered as an apartment and all the facilities present. Why not very very nice? There were lacking a specific style. It was like viewing a contemporary room but with some (nice though and in perfect condition) antiques or irrelevant paintings etc. Apparently it was decorated by somebody that simply putted whatever he/she liked without matching each one with the rest. Also, you could see in many corners in the floor the loose connections for heating that are not installed but are there in case that it is decided to be installed. Apart from that, beds were very comfortable, bathroom very spacious and view directly to the see.
2) Cleaning: Clean, and again clean and again clean. Nothing to be indicated that somebody else (or even us) stayed the previous night in the room. Totally, absolutely clean.
3) Facilities: An adequate piscine, spacious surroundings and in general, no problem there.
4) Breakfast: Oooook, Houston we have a problem. The whole situation with the breakfast was very funny. You couldn't predict what will be included, if it will be included and the quality of what was included. I will split it day by day (just make a note that it is not a buffee but is being served in every table):
a) Day 1: We sat on the table, all area of the breakfast full of flying bees. Ok, we are in the middle of the summer, surrounded by trees, so, ok. let's accept it.
We were brought the forks, knives, plates etc.
Coffee was brought in a half full kettle (why, it is simple water and filter coffee, full it please). Then come some small croissants. Number of them? 3 (what are we are going to do with the 3rd one since we are two? Split it?
Then the bread, butter in individual servings and the marmelate.
Then we were asked if we wanted to have toasts, or omelete. I asked the omelete, and my wife asked for a toast (just bread, cheese and ham). Nothing to comment there, just a well done to the chef for being able to prepare an omelete thin as a cigaret paper and the variety of the breakfast.
Ah, don't forget. We were brough also a glass of orange juice, of course from concentrated juice bought from the Macro chain of Super Markets since we could hear the owner complaining to an other customer of the high price of oranges (about 1,09 euros per kilo). Ho Honey, no yogurt, no fruits, no anything else.
In the next table, there were a family with kids. They were brough also all the rest above because they asked to.
b)Day 2:
Bread, Marmelade , coffee again just enough for 2 cups, but this time both toasts and omelete without asking. This time: No juice, no honey, not everything else. (sorry, we did not ask for it, we forgot it.
c)Day 3: Same as day 2.

5) Location: In the middle of nowhere. About 3,5 kilometers from the center of Souvala and the beach simply does not exist in front of the hotel. Just rocks and then sea. Souvala is a small village with nothing to care about. Just some tavernas and bars in front of the small port and nothing else to be excited.

6) Parking. Not enough for all rooms, but ok. We can park outside (as I said, enough space since it is in the middle of nowhere).
7) Attitude: I have to say that it was a very kind gesture from the owners that they upgraded our room since it they had a free suite. Apart from that, they were totally unfriendly. The biggest discussion that we had was if I wanted a receipt or an invoice at the end when I paid. No interest in anything (how are your vacations, do you want us to propose you anything etc.) therefore, the friendliness that I noticed in the previous comments...was not there somehow.

In order to conclude in this lengthy review.
Nice facilities but with some improvements that have to take place (pls...hire a decorator), Breakfast depending of your luck and the horoscope of the day, not friendly staff. It is very obvious that matters of cost indicated all the above and the fact that were not somebody that they could expect something from us (such as additional charges, coffees, extensive use of facilities since we do not have kids and so everyday we were living from the hotel and came back the night). Therefore, they were not interested to satisfy us.

If all these justified the cost of 80 euros per night in Aegina for a simple twin room (the upgrade was for free so does not count). No...definently not.

Dear Marios P,

We would like to thank you for your short stay at Irides and also for the time you have taken in writing such a detailed review for the first time on Trip advisor.
We were disappointed to read that we did not entirely meet your expectations.
The answers to most of your points are 99% covered by the previous 68 reviewers.
Furthermore we are very happy to enjoy a strong repeat customer base, many of whom are now not only good friends but have been returning for more than 10 years. Talking to them they normally mention that our strongest aspects are in fact location, friendly customer service and breakfast. This is also bourn out by the many other previous reviewers.
Irides will continue to provide the highest level of services. We find that the combination of quiet relaxing location and the quality of the facility is one of our main attractions.
We do hope to be given the opportunity to welcome you back at Irides when you are next on Aegina and improve your view in those areas, where you were less satisfied.

Can't fault irides. We were made to feel very welcome. Our two children aged three and eight loved the pool and the area around it. Peaceful and family friendly. The family apartment had everything we needed. We would all definitely like to stay there again.

The Irides Luxury Studios are the best place in Aegina. They are super friendly, clean and offer amazing opportunities for guests. Especially the huge Pool and the great view over Athens are worth it to stay there. The location is good- next to Souvala and directly on the beach.

We (family of 4 people) stayed 2 weeks in this great appartment in the 2nd half of July 2013. At our first arrival we were welcomed warmheartedly by Spyros and his mother Dimitria. The appartment (2-rooms) with seaview turned out to be our second home real soon. The seaview is astonishing (you can observe at least 175km's of coastal line of the mainland of Athens, the appartment is very comfortable and clean (is cleaned every day with clean sheets and towels) and cool (2 airco's). Our children slept on the two bed-couches in the living room We enjoyed two BBQ's and the goodbye dinner organised by the family. Next to the complex there is a small beach where you can swim in the sea.The family can organise anything you like. They took care of car rental (car is brought to the appartment), scooter rental etc. etc. Nearby the complex you have a small supermarket for lunch and small drinks. Irides offers a great breakfast, served by the family and two other great people: Daniel and Michaela. You can stay here at least for 2 weeks because of the great setting and the wonderful hospitality of the family. The swimmingpool is very nice and good for cooling off. It's advised to rent a car or scooter to visit tavernas in Souvala (e.g. Zaza/Namaste). Don't forget to visit the Souvlaki man, a real Greek tavern run by a family with the best souvlaki on the island. We hope to go back once again and wish the familiy and their staff all the best. I'd like to give 10 stars to Irides, but that isn't possible.

Room Tip: Every room has seaview, so choose whatever you like. We took an apparment on the second (highest) le...
