“A great place to stay - highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

We (2 adults, 2 children aged 7 and 10) stayed at Chateau de Palaja for 2 nights in early July 2011. We absolutely loved the place - our family room/suite was very large, tastefully decorated, and had everything needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay.

The hotel is in a great location - the village of Palaja is quiet and authentic (not a souvenir shop in sight) and it is a short, easy drive to La Cite. I would much rather stay here than in Carcassonne.

The owners were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast option is worthwhile and enables you to sample some of the local produce.

I did not think that having the children there was at all problematic - there were at least 2 other families with children staying at the same time as us. Our 2 had a great time. The swimming pool is clean and refreshing and there is also an area where the children (and even some of the adults!) can enjoy a game of petanque.

All in all, this is a very pleasant place to stay.

Very nice B&B - delicious breakfasts and comfy beds. Quiet and relaxing with a nice pool. Probably not suitable if you have excitable, noisy children as it's so peaceful you'll be shushing them a lot. Easy to get taxis to and from Carcassone (and from airport) so no need to hire a car if you don't want to.

I traveled with my husband, mother in law, and 3 year old daughter, and felt so welcomed here. The Queribus suite was spacious, immaculate and stylish. The design was thoughtful, down to the sweet, soft teddy bear blankets in the twin room. Very comfy beds and blissfully quiet and calm atmosphere. The drive to the old city in Carcassonne was about 10 minutes (past a glorious field of sunflowers) and there is nothing eat/do/visit in Palaja, so it might have felt a bit isolated if I were there for a longer stay or did not have a car. But our one night here was a relaxing highlight of our drive from Barcelona to Provence. By the way all of the public areas and most of the rooms do have free wifi -- they just don't advertise it because a few rooms don't get service (ours was one of them -- you could ask when you book to be sure).

Recently and stylishly renovated large country house. Stayed for a week in spring 2011 in two of the hotel's excellent first floor suites. The owners and staff are all very friendly and provided a number of excellent ideas for days out in the surrounding countryside including walking, cycling and sightseeing. They speak Spanish, English and possibly other languages too.

There is no restaurant in Palaja village but the hotel is only about 15 minutes from central Carcassonne by taxi. Also very highly recommended: Jean-Francois, local driver of a black "London" taxi, who organised some superb meals out for us in out-of-the-way Carcassonne restaurants that we would never otherwise have discovered...ask for his details at hotel reception. The best taxi service we've ever had!
