“This hotel is literally at the Pittsburgh Airport”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2009

OK, realize the 3 1/2 star hotel is literally in the Airport. If you aren't flying in or out, stay away. You must park at the airport parking areas. I ended up taking a shuttle from the parking area to the airport terminal then walk to the hotel. Once your there you are stuck. Most of the airports eateries and stores are not accessible without a boarding pass. You must pay for internet, (no free wi-fi), The hotel is plush and very clean with a high end restaurant and bar. If you are traveling to or from the Pittsburgh it would make an early flight more manageable. Call the front desk to confirm this is true, true, true.

My wife stayed at this Hyatt only because it is at the airport. She was working 100 miles away in WV and had to fly out of Pittsburgh the next morning. So easier to make the drive the night before and stay here. She commented that it was very nice to be able to walk right into the terminal from the hotel especially without having to even go outside in the cold. After staying in WV for three weeks, the Hyatt seemed wonderful based on first impressions. The room was spacious, there was a nice flat panel TV, the bathroom was very nice and the amenities were also very nice. Bed was comfortable as well. She was only staying for one night and was looking forward to simply getting some rest. With this goal in mind, there were two major problems. The first is that the room had a strong odor of cologne. She thought that perhaps the previous occupant just got it everywhere. Then she found out from the room service attendant that the hotel actually pipes in various aromas throughout the year. It was so strong that it brought on a migraine. The second problem is that the walls were thin. She could hear the conversations and the TV in the room next to her. For a hotel that tries to soundproof the exterior against jet noise, you would think they would consider the interior a bit. She ended up having to yell at the occupants in the room next to her at midnight to be quiet. One last problem that wasn't major or unexpected was the price of room service. She ordered breakfast in the evening that included eggs, bacon, toast, etc. She added a beer. The total was $27 and they didn't even bring the toast. She was told 45 minutes and it took well over an hour. Then she found that they overcharged her for the meal when she got the bill under the door in the morning. Expected much more from a Hyatt. Would ONLY stay here in the future if necessary to catch an early flight out of Pittsburgh. Otherwise, would not recommend especially for those who are sensitive to perfumes.

  • Liked — Location, spacious room, flat panel TV
  • Disliked — Scent piped into rooms, thin walls

We were in room 206 and it was a wonderful stay. Having a 6 am flight this hotel was extremely convenient as you can literally walk to the airport in a heated overpass with moving walkways. The rooms themselves were beautifully appointed with modern updated decor. The bed was superb with a giant pillowtop and feather downy pillows. The bathroom was also very nice with granite and tile. We were just down the hall from a heated lap pool and hot tub, as well as a very clean sauna. The fitness room was being remodeled but had a more than adequate alternative room and the remodel work was to be completed by next week. All in all a wonderful stay. Highly recommended and I got it for only $65.00 on priceline!!

We too booked through Hotwire. Hotwire works by first agreeing to a price and level of stars, paying, and then you are shown which hotel you will be staying at only after payment is made. Due to a really early flight and not wanting to deal with driving from another nearby hotel, my wife and I really wanted to stay at this Hyatt due to the location, right at the airport, but the best rate we could find was AAA @ $135. Using the previous post, I had a good idea that when Hotwire offered the 3.5 star hotel for $75 it would be this Hyatt. Luckily it was and we had a great experience at a wonderful price. The room was very clean and the staff was exceptionally nice!

We reserved thru hotwire (3 1/2 stars, airport location) and were pleasantly surprised to find that it is located on the airport grounds, so we could walk to the hotel from the airport. We were also pleased to get a $75 rate, which saved us more than $100 over the usual rates at this hotel.
This is a really nice luxury hotel with lots of amenities, very clean and well appointed, lovely furnishings and decor, very quiet. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and the food is good, but nothing is free here: you have to pay for parking, internet, breakfast. Even after deciding to pay for the internet in our room, we could not get it to work, and the Tmobile customer support was nonexistent, so we asked for and received a refund from the front desk. There is also a business center, where you pay with a credit card for internet usage. There is very little noise considering the proximity to the airport, the rooms must be well insulated for sound.

Due to flight delays in both Rome and JFK, we got into to Pittsburgh much later than planned. The airline gave us a voucher for an overnight stay. The place is gorgeous. Extremely comfy kingsize bed, enormous bathroom, excellent amenities. Breakfast the next morning in the dining room was also excellent. Also very convenient with the enclosed walkway from the terminal. We have decided to stay here whenever we have a morning flight from now on.

The Hyatt used to be a very convenient and comfortable stop - just a long walk from the main terminal at the Pittsburgh airport. But it is showing significant signs of wear. Although this week they were "sprucing up," they are only applying surface paint on worn areas and door frames -- not the kind of renovation needed. Added to the misery of staying here is the fact that the restaurant sits next to the full smoking bar -- and if there are a few smokers there, you will certainly be faced with significant second-hand smoke during your meal. The staff are nice and friendly but this is a property that needs some work and a no-smoking area. The hotels that are a short shuttle ride away are now superior and preferable.

  • Liked — closeness to airport terminal
  • Disliked — worn out and smoking in the restaurant
