“A 'pass-through' hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012 via mobile

To call this a 4star is extremely misleading. Rooms are adequate but tight. The lobby reception area is poor. There is little or no room. The bar area is really a local bar for local people. As a hotel customer, I felt out of place there. They held a surprise party for some local person during our stay. No room for the tourist. The outside area is also poor. Its a smokers area really. The rooms are tight and no magnificent views of the area as stated. No complaints with food or breakfast. Service in the restaurant was good. I wouldn't reccomend this hotel as a long stay. Its quite a bit away from the buzz of Killarney. Taxis are expensive too 12e to 15e to get to town. Overall, not impressed and will not be back there as I feel its what you would expect from a lower star hotel.

We have stayed here on many occasions and as always it's good.Large spacious rooms, very clean and the staff are super. We ate in the bar it was lovely. However, this time a few things got to me...1st.I was rang 3 times before I arrived, once the night before and twice on the morning,i appreciate they were busy..but 3 times....2nd,they were catering for a wedding party and breakfast was all over the place, when they knew they were that busy they should have had extra staff on,it wasn,t even that busy in the restaurant at the time we went for breakfast.

Have just returned from weekend in Killarney - we were attending a wedding in the Europe Hotel and booked Travel Inn as it was a cheaper option and just across the road. We were pleasantly surprised with the lovely rooms, generous bathroom (great shower) and lovely breakfast. The staff were lovely, but would have to single out Brendan, the excellent Manager, who made us feel so welcome and looked after us very well. We thought the "Travel Inn" name was a bit misleading - the standard was much higher than we expected. Would recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Killarney!

Hotel was beautiful. Very well located for us. Staff were friendly on arrival. They had free tea and coffee facilities at reception which I have never seen before and thought it was an excellent idea. We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights and the food was amazing and very very reasonable. menu was excellent with a great variety of food. Wine was great also and nicely chilled and very cheap.

I chose this hotel based on three criteria: the reasonable rates, its four star rating and the many favourable reviews on Tripadvisor.

The rates were certainly reasonable (given the time of year and location), but I'm at a loss to understand how this hotel attained its four star rating.

The travel Inn is a utilitarian budget hotel lacking the refinement that you would expect from a four star hotel.

It is located near Fossa, a 10 minutes drive from Killarney's town centre. The location pleasant enough and our room had a pleasant view.

The room itself was a fair size, but it was cheaply furnished and lacked any personality or refinement. First of all, it was supposed to be a "double room, instead we got two single beds pushed together. The lighting was harsh and the decor bland. The television was bottom of the line and there is no WIFI available in rooms.

Our biggest gripe was breakfast: service was slow, the layout poor, the menu basic and the food barely passable.

This hotel may be good alternative for budget travelers and families with small children, but I expect more from a four star hotel.

Pros:
Clean
Affordable
Friendly staff
Descent views

Conns:
Completely lacking in atmosphere and character
Room decor and furnishings are cheap and generic
Very basic facilities
The breakfast was mediocre at best

Dear OdysseusDublin,

Thank you for your recent stay with us. Your feedback is also appreciated. In answer to the points you raised I would like to take this opportunity to respond. The beds in some rooms are indeed 'zip and link' beds. Similar to many other 4 star hotels it provides the hotel with the option to create a double or twin room based on requirements of the customer. We do have blanket Wi Fi coverage in the hotel which our newly appointed ISP recently installed and is proving very popular with our guests as is evident from the monthly usage reports. Our highly experienced staff take great pride in creating a warm, friendly and welconing atmosphere for our guests at all times. We also offer our guests the option to use extensive leisure facilities in our sister hotel at no extra charge which includes a pool, extensive gym, Captain Jack show and Kid's Club. Our 4 star rating is awarded by Failte Ireland subject to strict criteria and annual inspection.
Thank you again for taking time to post your review.
Kind Regards, Brendan

It's rare when you can find a modern hotel with old time values and staff who are genuine, authentic and welcoming. From Mary at reception to the amazing bar and restaurant staff and of course, the hotel manager Brendan who went out of his way to look after our group of 20+ over the course of our weekend in Killarney. 5 star value all the way!! Thanks, Joris
