“lacked atmosphere!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

We booked this hotel as a treat.. We had heard alot of positive feedback about the hotel.
It was lovely but it lacked atmosphere. It is like a 5 star business hotel.
Its hard to fault the place..it is spotless, the spa is beautiful it has the views but so do other hotels in Killarney.
The food was a big disappointment.. breakfast is a standard buffet that you would get in any other hotel.
This hotel is fine but there are better less expensive hotels in Killarney!!
We left the hotel feeling very underwhelmed!!

We've just returned from a long weekend at the Europe, where we were blown away by the fantastic panoramic views available from every corner of the hotel, the delicious food and fabulous spa. During a busy holiday weekend the facilities still allowed for everyone to have their own space, and the spa was a particular highlight.

Small details everywhere make this hotel truly special, from a variety of plug options in the hotel room, to placing of the hair dryer, to the scents used in the steam room and endless towels by the pool (I can't imagine their laundry bill!)

Usually we are more budget travellers viewing hotel rooms as places to lay our head at night after the adventures of the day, but this weekend we barely left the hotel and enjoyed every minute of our visit. We were getting the best views Kerry has to offer - of majestic mountains and shifting skies - all from our day beds in the thermal suite. We left thoroughly relaxed and rejuvenated.

We stayed here as a group of 4 couples for a week-end and I have to say that everything was superb. The accommodation is five star as was the service but the spa and pool areas are truly spectacular. This is the top end of what you will get in this industry in Ireland. We had dinner in the main restaurant one night which was very enjoyable with a great selection of starters and mains both in the fish and meat departments. The lounge areas are large and very well finished with large comfortable chairs to relax in and look out over magnificent lake and mountain views.

The bedrooms we had were all lake views and were very roomy and comfortable. All had balconies and are well sound proofed and finished to a very high standard.

Because the hotel was not very full it makes it easy to provide such good service, so hopefully this is maintained when its full.

The hotel concierge will organise any of the local golf clubs etc for you, just make sure you give them a little notice as things get pretty busy as the season gets busy.

A real gem of a find was Con Moriarity from Hidden Ireland Tours (check out his web site) who we had for a day - Con had been booked to take us up Carrantouhill - The highest mountain in Ireland - but due to the weather conditions we had to opt for a 12.5 km guided walk along the old Kenmare Rd at the back of Torque Mt, up the Black Valley to Lord Brandon's cottage where he organised a boat trip back to Castle Ross. An absolutely brilliant day out and there is no better guide then Con to bring the countryside alive and provide a most stimulating day. I couldn't recommend someone more then Con to make a wet day out in Ireland seem like a sunny day filled with good fun and enjoyment.

Room Tip: Only the lake view rooms were open for this time of year so I suspect they will automatically upgrad...

Very little to say here. Truest excellent hotel, finished to a very high standard and very, very classy. All parts of the hotel were impressive. Great rooms and the pool/spa area was one of the best I've been in in Ireland. Great views of the lakes and pleasant paths for walks.

The restaurants were brilliant. Great menus and great food.

The only downside hee is that if you are travelling with a family the pricing is high for the room configurations. Travelling as a couple though, thi is the only place to stay in Killarney in this price bracket: forget all other five star billed hotels in the area, this is THE place!

We spend three nights at this hotel. We were greeted immediately upon arrival by the friendliest and exceedingly professional concierge staffers. They couldn't have been more helpful, more informative and gracious. Everyone here was charming, detail oriented and eager to make our stay perfect. And it was.

Room Tip: Make sure to have view of the lake.

We love killarney and have been loyal to this beautiful hotel. Room very nice and spa amazing but dinner on saturday night was quite frankly terrible. Service lacked a smiley face and stay away from the duck as it tasted terrible, too much aniseed in the gravy !. then desert served outside, awful! tea came out of a boiler. Definitely catering for the masses. Stay away until a real chef arrives. P and R in Cork

Stayed here with another couple for weekend in feb, had a great time in the lap of luxury. Active level a real treat especially outdoor pool, as good as any massage. Had massage on the Friday and felt didn't get value for money, have had better experience elsewhere. Ate in the brasserie on the Friday night and really enjoyed atmosphere, food good but fish could have been fresher. Went to the dining room on sat night as another couple joined us four, felt the food was overpriced and again turbot not the freshest!- at these prices the fish should be spot on. Would love to go back for the great service and pool area, but would hope for better quality fresher food.
