Because most of the hype about Egypt is concentrated around Cairo and the pyramids, people tend to overlook the historical beauty and richness of Upper Egypt. Our guide, Mr. Mohammed Qenawy was extremely professional in the way he managed our whole trip. He spoke English very well, gave us all the information that was necessary and went out of his way to make sure that we were having a pleasant stay.
A Nile Cruise is the best way to explore Upper Egypt. We started off at Luxor and worked our way to Aswan, visiting several sites of interest along the route. We visited Luxor Temple, Karnak complex, The Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's Temple, the Colossi of Memnon, Edfu Temple, Kom Ombo Temple, Philae Temple and Abu Simbel among other things. Even though it may seem to be an overdose of Egyptian history, it is surprising that every attraction is unique in its own way. The Nile cruise itself is impressive in that the scenery consists mostly of lush green vegetation rather than just sand.
Since tourism is the main, indispensable source of income for Egypt, you will come across a plethora of offers, suggestions, services and what not. Therefore, to make the most out of your visit to Egypt, a well-organised itinerary and a highly educated guide like Mohammed Qenawy are essential. I highly recommend his services as he managed to make our trip to Egypt (particularly Upper Egypt) a memorable one.
