“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

This is a must see if you are blessed to visit the beautiful country of Lebanon. These ancient limestone caves are like a dream to see and experience. It's kind of like the Grand Canyon, mere words can not describe. You have to experience for yourself.

“A walk through the cave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Local friends drove us to Byblos, stopping at Jeita Grotto. It compares in grandeur, of not size, with Carlsbad Caverns and other caves around the world. It was a nice hour walk, and it was virtually empty the day we were there. Quite pleasant, but not a highlight of the trip. Still, it's close to Beirut and easy to get to, so why not?

“Majestic but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

I spent a year or two of my childhood wandering around the grotto (one of my parents used to work there). I then came back in 2012 after about 15 years of absence with a friend of mine who was visiting from Europe. The place is truly awe-inspiring and majestic. You really get a feeling of the size and the magnitude of it. And please remember, the grotto is just a hole dug up through the mountain by water currents, water currents so strong that they created a natural marvel hundreds of meters deep and several kilometers long. The top grotto is exceptional, if you're willing to learn more about it stop by and check out the poster that goes through the geological history of the place all the way from 10000BC (if i'm not mistaken) up to our era.
The drawback of the visit is the boat trip at the bottom grotto. It is kind of short and pointless, there are no guides to make the trip more appreciable.
In short, do visit if you plan to go up to the mountains during your stay in Lebanon. It's about 20 km north of Beirut so definitely worth the trip.
