“Viva Haven La Chance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2009

My friends and I had a fantastic time at Haven La Chance.
Booking the trip was so simple. Elena at www.bluemenofmorocco.com arranged the trip for us via email and answered all of our questions and concerns. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is fantastic. We were welcomed with open arms and treated like kings. Our guide, L'Hussain, took great care of us and he taught us so much about the desert. The overnight camel trip into the magnificent desert was one of the highlights of our trip to Morocco. Its a long journey to get to Merzouga, but it was highly worth the effort.
Thanks again. Chris from NY

We are just back from Desert Hotel Haven la Chance:
First we went skiing on snow in Oukemaiden. Then we spend a few days in Merzouga four days carrying on the "ski trip"...in the dunes ( Great ! )
Heaven la Chance is a beautiful small hotel, Elena and the staff are very pleasant and usefull ( Thanks Omar for the snowboards and the lift !, thanks as well for this delightful Pizza Berbère !)
We strongly recommend this adress and I will definitely go back there soon to spend more time in Merzouga with my children.
There is so much to do, méharée and spending the night in the dunes, sandboarding, quad... it must be even better in summer... Just doing nothing and resting in this peaceful place.
Hello to Elena if she reads me! Hello Yousef... See you soon.
Damien

This is Blue Men of Morocco's (who we booked out trip with) hotel and it was fine. The problem was that we were the only guests so there weren’t too many people around for help or directions. Also, when we left to take walks in the dunes, we got locked out (luckily, they leave one door cracked for the cat) and had to ask to have the hot water turned on. The food pretty tasty—fresh salads and fruits. Really healthy and flavorful. Oh, and when people were there they welcomed us as if we were at home, inviting us into the kitchen to chat and drink tea together.

Also, I had issues with being a vegetarian. Vegetarianism is not common in Morocco so when we were the only guests in the desert, they fixed me chicken. Turns out chicken is not as common as beef/goat/sheep so perhaps a bit unfamiliar to cooks. I started eating the awesome veggies (does anyone know what those greenish, vaguely chickpea-shaped legumes are?? they are SO good) and our guide came by and asked how the chicken was. I mentioned I hadn't tried it yet. He said, "well, let us know if it is to your taste, we cooked it medium." Uh, medium? It's chicken. So I didn't want to eat it but since we wer the only ones there, it seemed rude to reject the meal made especially for me (DH got beef kabob). The solution? I picked off the meat and fed it to the cat. That cat purred next to me for the rest of our meal AND the next day at breakfast.

The shortcomings of this hotel are greatly helped by its incredibly warm hearted staff. The staff opens their arms to you like you are part of their family. Upon arriving, we were treated to mint tea out in the courtyard in Berber tents, and then all sat around a bonfire to chat some more before dinner was served. And dinner itself was delicious, and they didn't try to nickel and dime you for the water or extra bread.

The amenities of the rooms are the bare minimum. The shower water pressure was a bit weak and not hot enough - and there are no heaters in the rooms either, making a night here in the winter time very cold. The blankets they give you are warm enough but some of the sheets smelled of smoke.

Its location is RIGHT next to Erg Chebbi so it's great if you want to be able to walk out the backdoor onto the dunes.

What a great experience! The hotel was fully booked when we tried to reserve but they offered us accomodation in tents in the hotel grounds and full use of the facilities, shower, toilets etc. It was ideal. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Food v.good. We had organised desert activities through the hotel and they were a complete success. For anyone planning a trip we would highly recommend quad biking over the sand dunes and also the overnight camel trip into the desert. Really great fun and an experience we will never forget.

We just came back from our trip to Morocco. We booked our camel trek through Haven La Chance and we had an amazing time both on the trek and in Merzouga. At Haven La Chance, Hassan made us feel extremely welcome and at home. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We had an amazing time on the camel trek and have never seen such beautiful colours and been in such a tranquil atmosphere. We recommend booking through or staying at Haven La Chance for a once in a lifetime experience.

3 of us stayed at Haven La Chance in mid-June. We spent 1 night at the hotel and did 1 overnight in the desert via camel. If you are considering Morocco or just considering traveling that far, it was the best part of the trip for me. However, it was very hot; luckily, Elena, the owner, suggested we sleep under the stars on the roof and that was great.! The staff there are all so wonderful and you'll have a chance to meet local people. The overnight camel trip was the trip of a lifetime and the dunes are amazingly beautiful. Out there, too, we slept outside. Also, Elena helped me plan the whole week through Blue Men of Morocco; it was perfect. I miss it!
