We stayed here in summer 2007 and it was so absolutely fantastic I can barely describe it. It is a slightly older hotel but you feel like you are in one of the Sean Connery James Bond movies. The formal restaurant in the hotel is fantastic (it has a michelin star), and the casual restaurants are good too. Breakfast was plentiful and the view just cannot be beat. We had a great ocean-view room that was clean and quiet with a lovely bath. It's not a luxurious as an American Four Seasons, but those don't have balconies over the Med either! The service was beyond wonderful.
Speakiing of which, the Med is cold there in the early summer but warms up well by late summer. The hotel has a private cove - look closely at the sand there - it is made up of millions of tiny tiny uncrushed shells. You can also walk down a path to the public beach which is close by.
Overall, I would say the Vistabella in Roses is one of the best hotels I have every stayed at.
