“Beautiful family run hotel right by the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014 via mobile

We had an enjoyable 6 night stay at this small hotel in a stunning location. The room was spacious, with a high ceiling, comfortable bed, pleasant bathroom and we had a large shady balcony with table, chairs and a fine sea view.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and was dined both in the restaurant, and The Sloop beach bar. Neither of which were cheap, but both good quality, with efficient staff, and good locations. Other places to eat are conveniently nearby.

The breakfast was much better than we expected, but not for those expecting a full English. Lots of fresh fruit, breads, pastries, marmalade and jam, also plentiful cheese and meat selection.

We certainly hope to return, and would highly recommend.

Now I am always thankful to a Hotel for accepting dogs, Molly is part of the family after all. Dave and I try to organise at least one driving tour of Spain every year. This time we headed North from Sitges for the first time. The major reason for visiting the Costa Brava was a visit to Skydive Empuriabrava.
The room we had was at the back facing the road and at the far end of a corridor and I always feel more comfortable being away from the crowd although Molly aged 12 has never been a problem on our trips. The rooms are smart, comfortable, and spotless. A fridge is provided along with a small safe. The bathroom is adequately stocked and again spotless. (one small criticism would be the fitting of the shower doors that allows water to spray out leaving a wet floor, something that could be eliminated with the fitting of an external plastic strip. Prevents the customer from having to walk in water after a shower.) Wi-fi is free in the room strength 0.45 but is unlimited.
The breakfast is aimed at the German and French market with selections of cheeses, fruits, breads and croissant. However, a more than acceptable coffee and orange juice are available but personally I would avoid the cereal and milk option as it is lacking in quality. The restaurant menu was for me too fussy with a choice of two set menus both of which were aimed at a high end market.
The front of house staff, the cleaning staff and the everybody else staff (the ones you see in different roles throughout the day) were numerous, polite and helpful.
It appears the owners are working on improvements and presentation and I wish them luck.
It is not cheap for a three star and the cost of parking within the building is too expensive but vital when visiting in the summer and using the car for day trips. However I would recommend the Canyelles Platja and am more than happy to give it four stars.

Lovely hotel on a beautiful beach in the Costa Brava. Fantastic breakfast and a lovely atmosphere. Definately worth taking a car to visit the local sites in Cap de Creus, although there are some beautiful walks on the coast which are easily accessible from the hotel.

The hotel itself is very nice but over priced. Our room was lovely but nothing particularly special and we had a view of the street behind the hotel which was a shame. There was no mini bar or facilities to make tea/coffee in the rooms, and the bathroom had no external windows and is very small. The car park is very very expensive which seems ridiculous considering the price of the rooms. We paid 120euros/night for the room and the car would have been another 17euros/night!

Having said this, we had a lovely time at the hotel, breakfast was fantastic and the beach is just in front of the hotel, (bear in mind, you need to to cross a road to get to the beach so not somewhere you would want kids to explore alone).

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, the view behind is of the road and a hill covered in unattractive houses and hot...

We stayed in this hotel between 24 August and 3 September 2013.

The hotel was carefully chosen prior booking. We decided to book with Expedia, and never regretted. Their customer service was great, and I would like to mention David and Raj - the two people from Expedia, we contacted over the phone, and both of them have provided really very good customer service, showing their professionalism and understanding of our requests. They have contacted the hotel on our behalf and sorted out all our requests.

We arrived in Roses at very late hours (11.30pm) and phoned to the hotel just to ask for the directions. Lovely Carmen, who was on duty that night at the reception, helped us so much, that we could not appreciate more.

We have met and been in touch with other members of the hotel, lovely and friendly Tris and very helpful and friendly Josef during our stay. They are great people and our daughter was crying when we were leaving, because she loved the people and place so much!

I would also like to mention other members of staff - maids, restaurant waitresses - they were very friendly, polite and always were showing respect to the guests. They work like a honey bees, if I may to make such a comparison.

A BIG THANK YOU to all of them!

To summarise: Very clean and modern hotel. Rooms are comfortable, staff is very friendly, buffet breakfast is very good. Coffee variety and espresso was outstanding! Hotel's beach is clean with a crystal clean water.

Room Tip: Rooms on the floors 3 to 6 (North side) have a balcony and a Mountain view are good, however, rooms...

Hotel is on a perfect pristine beach that has a small tunnel that gets you to and from the beach. Get a balcony room overlooking the beach, such a perfect view. Comfortable contemporary rooms in a quiet location. Roses is touristy and not viewy scenic,Cayelles is gorgeous. Breakfast was an awesome spread. It was the most expensive hotel we stayed at in our 3 weeks however it was excellent value. A must stay hotel.

This hotel is right on a pristine beach and even has a small tunnel that lands you directly onto the sand and their beach bar/restaurant. Hotel is very clean and modern- breakfast was brilliant with a huge spread. Perfect if you want a quiet location and more of a beach person.
Main Roses is quite commercial and touristy whereas this is more affluent and quieter. The bay looks like the Amalfi coast. Hotel is clean with all mod cons and very helpful and friendly staff- lovely place! Go for a sea view room with balcony- makes all the difference and these rooms have recently been modernised and much better than other rooms.

Room Tip: go for sea view room- they are much more modern too

This place was such an excellent find. It was so comfortable with contemporary rooms, nice bedding and clean, quiet. Canyelles is best place to stay in Roses because it's away from the main part of town that's very touristic, not too scenic. This area is less crowded and beautiful surroundings. My husband and I loved this hotel / spot on the beach. There's a fantastic walk/hike/jog path that begins nearby in either direction. This was nice way to start the day after breakfast. There's a small pool in front of hotel and restaurant / bar attached. Parking can be tricky but in back of hotel there's better success and cars thin out later in the day. The breakfast buffet was included and it was perfect. It also featured the best chocolate pastry I had during my entire, one-month stay in Spain. I would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to anyone traveling to Roses.
