“Small room, but overall a good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

First of all - be aware that in September, when we were in Roses, most of the people were french retirees, which can ruin the vacation a bit.

When we checked-in, we got a nice gift of local wine and olive oil (used the code from TripAdvisor).
Plus, the reception desk is occupied 24 hours a day, which is convenient.
The soap and shampoo were quality L'Occitane products.

We had some trouble finding the hotel using a car with GPS. After asking the receptionist, we were directed to a nearby free parking lot.
Our room was very small with sounds of flushing water all night.
The food at the breakfast was average, although the fresh yogurt was delicious - the waiters could not speak English at all, so we had trouble ordering our eggs.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor, and get a room with a balcony

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your comments with us, we are happy you had an overall good stay and would like to adress the challenges you encountered:

During our breakfast service we always cover the Catalan, Spanish, French and English languages (most of the times German as well). Not everyone speaks them all but as a team we do. However, thanks to your comment we figured out that some team members when not understanding a guest they do not always ask for help from other colleagues. This issue was adressed and understood by the team in our last meeting.

Furthermore, it is a pity you did not meet Arturo, our Chef, he speaks fluently all of the above 5 languages and will be glad to explain personally to our guests the different egg & bacon propositions he has to offer :-)

Finally you mentioned ‘sounds of flushing water all night’ - we will investigate the issue and try to find an adequate solution (if you could email us the room number you stayed in it would be of great help to us).

Thank you very much again for your comments

Kind regards from Roses :-)

Nicely located close to the beach, beautiful decoration, comfortable room/bed and good reception, good breakfast ..
But ..
There was no hot water, no parking. Located in a very narrow street - you have very short time lo load-unload the car because of the traffic. When leaving the hotel, we forgot to load some things; the bag with our shoes was left near the reception when we drove away in a hurry... . They could not find it when we called the hotel 2 days after .

This is a simple hotel in a nice location. Great base to explore Cadaques. Hotel was a little bit hard to find on a small street. But overall our stay here was extremely pleasent. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were extremely large and very clean.

Hotel Carmen comes highly recommended for it,s efficient staff( manager Rudi and articulate Chef Arthur who speaks 5 languages and does great eggs for breakfast). The location is terrifc and we luckily had glimpses of the Mediterranean from our terrace.Car parking is secure and very near by.We were also able to do some clothes washing in the hostel laundry next door( for a small fee) .
Only 60 metres to the beach and it,s cool clear waters and loads of shops and gelaterias to choose from.

The hotel is in the old town, near the waterfront. It has a lockable garage nearby at EUR 10 per night (you need to book this in advance). The bed was very comfortable and the modern bathroom had high quality taps and fittiings. All spotlessly clean, with a good breakfast included in the price.

Hotel Carmen is a tribute to Carmen & Josep, who first started welcoming travellers in their humble home in the early 1950's. The three buildings that make up the property have been recently refurbished and turned into a contemporary mediterranean hotel with a peaceful and delicate design that evoques those times. The house is located in the center of town among locals and their daily lives, and just 50m from the beach and Roses' magnificent sunset promenade. There are various rooms types available for guests, ranging from large rooms with balconies and terrasses, to smaller ones with windows. What all rooms have in common are great ergonomic mattresses & pillows, WiFi, a laptop sized safe, minibar, satelite TV, plus l'Occitane amenities and a haidryer in the bathroom. All rounded up with a nice breakfast with plenty of local products and freshly made coffee. For travellers arriving by car a garage is available as well. ... more   less
