5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

I recently had the happy misfortune to stay at the White Horse for a week. I say 'misfortune' as I was dieting successfully when I arrived and full of the most wonderful dinners and desserts when I left, 6 lbs heavier.

It's a charming place with lovely staff, and have I mentioned the food?

I will be returning shortly, I loved it!

We visit North Norfolk several times a year and we'd had a good number of great meals here in the past. Then, about a couple of years ago, a rapid succession of different landlords/managers had seen it go from bad to worse. One one occasion last year, we were told that they didn't serve food after 8pm on Fridays! On another occasion, new management blamed the lack of food on power supply problems.

However, our most recent visit, earlier this month, was a revelation. The whole building seems to have had a makeover, inside and out.

Five of us had three courses each. Servings were plentiful in size and tasted great. Service was faultless and the staff couldn't do enough for us.

I really hope the new people reap the rewards they deserve for all the hard work they're putting in.

Give this place a try.

What a wonderful surprise. After twenty four years of watching the demise of the White Horse, suddenly on our annual visit to Norfolk we found it had been entirely transformed by its new owners. The Landlord, with his charming wife and friendly daughter offer a warm welcome, efficient service and beautiful food. The whole place has been refurbished with great taste,- even a grand piano in the bar. They are concentrating on excellence.
Although we did not stay there we were shown some of the accommodation which was very pleasant and had a lovely en suite shower room. We will be staying next year.

Stumbled across this delightful Inn. The accommodation and food was excellent. the best meal we had during our holidays. The Landlord and Landlady were delightful, the staff very friendly. We'll be back next year for sure.

Room Tip: The cottage is self contained and delightful

My family and I have been staying in our holiday cottage near Wells almost every weekend since March 2013 and have eaten at the White Horse nearly every week. I would like to say that we have experienced some truly wonderful dishes and fantastic wines. Our dogs have been welcome on every occasion, although we do take other eating guests into consideration before we sit inside or out. The cleanliness and beautiful décor are warm and welcoming. My Brother and Sister-In-Law have stayed in the Blakeney suite and Avocet cottage a number of times and have commented on the relaxing, ‘home from home’ experience they have each time. The food is always fresh and delicious and the landlord is only too accommodating if you have a specific requirement, (I am a celeriac). The staff are extremely polite and are always willing to provide you with advice on the surrounding area and beautiful places to go. We ate here only yesterday and the food was truly magnificent! It was a lovely warm evening so we sat outside to eat and it was so peaceful – such a shame we had to leave to go back home to work for the week. It is a MUST!
