“If you have the choice - don't choose Macronissos Vacation Club as your base in Ayia Napa, Cyprus”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We booked our one week holiday, All Inclusive, through Olympic Holidays and stayed in the Macroissos complex 28th September to 5th October 2012. Olympic rate it 3+ and the website describe it as 4 start - no way would we have graded it a 3, let alone a 3+ rating. The place is not a good Flag Ship for Olympic Holidays. To say we were disapointed with the All Inclusive package is an understatement. The accommodation in blocks 300-700, where they tried to put us, are very basic, tacky and tatty - albeit clean - they are also located around the pool area, where the bar and entertainments are - this area of the complex is very noisey throughout the day and well into the night - so if you want to sleep at night, or are after a restful break request to be allocated into the 100 blocks (the best) or 200 blocks - not too bad. We were offered 3 or 4 other rooms (all similar) until eventually we secured a lovely room in the 100 series blocks (Room 107) - which was very nice, comfortable. The maid service in all rooms was something everyone was very positive about. The maids were friendly, worked hard and the even the tackiest of rooms was kept clean.

The brochure and web description of the accommodation and food are misleading - All Inclusive is a waste of money. The food choice is very limited and, as other reviewers have truthfully said, sausages left over from breakfast and other items from lunch will often find themselves in a pasta or other dish for evening meal. The food is of poor quality and sweet courses limited to one choice - same ice cream available for lunch and dinner. We found the snacks better than the main meals. Also, if you are All Inclusive you will not be allowed a pint of beer - though the bar staff are happy to let you have 2 half pints!!! However, if you are half or full board and pay for your drinks you are allowed a pint of beer no bother! The bar staff just said you can only have a pint if you pay for it. We gave up complaining that we had already pre-paid for our drinks!!!

Our treatment as All Inclusive guests frankly was poor - we, along with other All Inclusive guests felt descrininated against!!! We also felt foolish for spending so much for an All Inclusive package when folks on half board and full board were able to eat and drink outside the full variety of cuisine and drinks available in Ayia Napa - and cheaper!! The cocktails available on All Inclusive weren't too bad - though consistency and ingredients depended on who was behind the bar.

The bar area and outside dining area were not cleaned regularly (see photo's posted with this review) - sometimes your flip flops would stick to the floor when you were going to buy your drinks. The local (huge) ferrel colony of cats and wild birds had a field day after meal times. That is such a shame as the pool area, the pool itself and the gardens are quite pretty - and we never had any bother getting a sun bed, brolly or tables etc. The bar staff and waiters/waitresses worked hard, were efficient and pleasant - and were openly embarrased about the ruling of no pints being allowed for All Inclusive guests - seems it was "company policy". We challenenged our Olympic rep about the cleanliness of the bar area and about the no pint rule for All Inclusive guests. She said she would speak about the cleanliness of the bar with the manager - and that she was constantly complaining about the no pint rule!! We found this an amazing comment to come from her - bearing in mind she lives in the complex and eats and drinks there!!!! Why had'nt she or Olypic Holidays sorted this out before?

We complained in the resort and written to Olypic making our complaints clearly known. It is sad to say that despite all the problems and complaints from folks on here and in the resort itself that Macronissos Vacation Club appears in the Olympic Summer Sun brochure for 2013 with the same misleading descriptions of the accommodation, food and refreshments.

On the plus side, the place is well situated, the staff were friendly (apart from one gentleman who provides night reception cover). The entertainments team work hard and are greatly enthusiatic about their performances - laying on some really good shows at night - Blues Brothers was our favourite - plus kareoke most nights.

If I was Olympic Holidays I would get in there and sort things out - we have faith in Olympic, thats why we chose Macronissos Vacation Club - we will be more careful next time we book our holiday - we were bitterly disapointed with our All Inclusive package in the Macronissos Vacation Club. We will NOT be going back there, ever!!!!

Room Tip: Try to get in the 100 series blocks, near reception - good location and our eventual room 107 was ve...

Just returned from a 2 week all inclusive at the Macronissos , we had a great time but I wouldn't recommend this place for couples, a great base as the bus stops very near and buses run every 20 mins for a fraction of the price of the taxi's,and we ventured out most evenings as the entertainment is def geared towards families and young children with a working mens club feel to the evenings with bingo and kareoke, not our scene im afraid!! That said, the food was edible, if a bit samey, but for the price we paid, dont think we expected much more and the staff were very hard working. The grounds and pool area are lovely, and well kept, and the rooms are dated but very clean. You will notice a difference in the drinks when you go off site, which makes me think that the drinks are weaker than they should've been! Beautiful beaches nearby, and you can walk into Ayia Napa but a good 45 min walk, although some nice bars on the way!!

Just returned from a week in Macronissos village. Stayed ALL INCLUSIVE and what a waste of money. Breakfast was ok but is always same old same old. Sausages left over from breakfast turned up in a pasta dish at lunch time. Dinner was dire most days. Kebab meat was so tough it was inedible. Even the local cat couldn't cope with it. Sliced roast turkey was pink. Breaded cod was rubbery.Pork chops were unappetising. Rice is generally overcooked. Chips or wedgies are always on the menu but hey we're british what do we care. Well I care and want to make sure you know what you're going to get for your money. Look at the A LA CARTE menu for choice and dismiss it from your mind. Looks great as it comes out of the kitchen but you don't get it on ALL INCLUSIVE. What you do get is reheated, unappetising, tough, miserable looking dishes. Generally 2 meat and 1 fish course with chips, wedgies or jacket potato. Now is that what you call variety. I complained. Not to the Olympic Rep but direct to the bar owners.
We pay in advance for ALL IN.... Don't..... Go SELF CATERING. Plenty of tavernas in easy reach(5 minute walk) to get good food. Don't be took in by any review that says the food is good. It's not. If you want to eat what you eat at home then so be it. I like to sample local cuisine and you wont get it here. Don't waste your money lining the pockets of the bar owners.
The bar owner had friends/family over for sunday lunch and quite honestly with the appetising and varied dishes that they had on his table it is quite obvious where our money goes.
Watch what they do when they serve you a drink. How much cola do you like in your rum.
How much lemonade in your vodka. Total rip off.
Accomodation was dated but if you only want a base to sleep in it is comfotable enough.
Grounds are nice to walk through and the pool is pleasant enough. Staff are helpfull and know the area which is a good point. To get around hire a car.
Well that's my opinion and we heard much the same from other couples we spoke to.
In the end I complained to the Olympic Rep and will now persue this and hopefully get some of my money back.
Hope this was of help to you and will save you some money

Room Tip: Bungalows are better than appartments

On outskirts of Ayia Napa near beautiful small bay - perfect for a relaxing break. One bedroom Apartment lovely and spacious, very clean with wonderful sea view and views over garden. Large balcony to watch the sunset from. Macronissos beach across the road and down a track approx 300 metres to beach - 2 Euros 50 for each sunbed which is very reasonable. Lovely beach bar with fresh local food 5 Euro for tuna pita bread and 6 Euro for village salad which were lovely - 2 Euro for a bottle of beer i.e. Sol or Corona.

All Inclusive - well worth it - only small complex of 122 rooms but always plenty of room in dining room. Food always good - four main choices - fish/chicken/pork/pasta etc with salad, jacket potatoes/rice and chips. Sweets - only one or two to choose from but there is fruit and icecream - there were some lovely plums and grapes last week! Good full english breakfast with toast etc with yoghurts. Never went hungry. Drinks ok - can get wine by the carafe - white was better than the red but didn't try the rose. No queues for the bar as George and wonderful staff at Macs bar and the restaurant always worked their socks off to make sure you always had a drink - never had such a good service - thank you to the staff. Reception staff very helpful and nothing too much trouble. Maid services not every day maybe 4 out of the 7 days but did a really good job of getting rid of the sand we always managed to bring back to the room with us.

Our room was 115 - and was a one bedroom apartment on first floor. Didn't use the air con as on first floor just slept with the bedroom window open and had a lovely through breeze - in high season would be a definite though. View from our balcony was wonderful round the house view - we could see the pool, sea and reception and gardens and was really peaceful. Any rooms in blocks 1 and 2 would be great - 3 ok and blocks 4, 5, 6 and 7 were closer together and round the pool and bar area which would be very noisy if you wanted some peace and quiet.

Entertainment went on until at least 1 am, all inclusive stops at 12 midnight. Not one for entertainment but found myself doing the bingo for some really good cash prizes of up to 150 Euros! Entertainment team lovely and we stayed and watched most of the shows, Robbie Williams and Blues Brothers were really entertaining and we had a good laugh so well worth watching. Didn't stay round the pool as the beach was so lovely so cannot comment on day time entertainment but there was a large pool area and plenty of sunbeds.

I emailed hotel to ask for a quiet room away from bar area - no confirmation back from them but did get exactly what I asked for so well worth doing. Some other holiday makers asked to change rooms on arrival and were allowed to do this.

Shop next to reception has everything - nice sarnies from trip home and some fruit - also nice wine in fridge for 1 Euro 95 per litre

Overall had lovely holiday for end of September and would definitely return.

Room Tip: E mail and ask for blocks 1 or 2 for a quieter setting and better views.

There now! lovely place. Staff very friendly and they work very hard. Nice room if a bit tired. food ok,nothing special but varied.
My biggest problem is that as AI you are deffinately second class guest.I have never been told so often 'thats not AI.' includes a large beer, frappe coffee, many of the beers. It gets a bit boring being told so often 'not part of the AI.
That said its quite enjoyable here.

This was our fourth visit to this property as we are beach-lovers and Macronissos Beach itself, a ten minute walk away, is probably the best in the area. For this reason we always choose the self-catering option as opposed to All Inclusive; we don't wish to be tied to the pool area for two weeks, as so many of our fellow guests were! What a shame to go to this part of the world and spend the duration sitting around drinking (from plastic cups) and waiting for the buffet to open and then spending every night playing bingo and watching the "variety" of "entertainment" on offer - not our cup of tea I'm afraid........Robbie Williams tribute acts, Parrot Shows....of course some people like this kind of thing. We preferred to get out and about, trying different places to eat around the town having spent our days on the fabulous beach!

All this aside (and it is just a matter of opinion which is the whole point of sites like this) the Macronissos Village is set in attractive, well-kept gardens and the public areas are very clean. Situated three miles from the centre of Ayia Napa, the complex is served by a cheap and regular bus service (one euro per person per journey, though after 11pm this goes up to 2.50).....there are loads of taxis touting for your business but these are VERY expensive unless there are five or six of you to chuck in - expect to pay around ten euros into town. You could do what we did and hire some bicycles at about three euros per day so you can pedal up and down as you please.....there is a dedicated cycle lane all the way into town and no hills to contend with!

Our room was in block 300, a one-bedroomed apartment. Very basic with minimal catering facilities which consisted of two-ring electric hob, kettle, toaster and fridge. The cleaners work very hard to keep the rooms spotless and our lady was particularly pleasant and cheerful. Towels (decent quality) were plentiful and changed everyday. Big balcony with table and chairs. Plenty of hot water for the shower (scalding hot actually!). Beds are very uncomfortable but you do get used to them eventually! Earplugs are useful if you fancy an early night and don't want to listen to the "entertainment" from the bar which is incessant until 1am or after.

Overall we would return again purely based on location but only at the right price and we certainly wouldn't entertain the all-inclusive option.

Incidentally we flew with Jet2 as part of the Olympic Holidays package and would avoid them in future just because of the sheer discomfort of their aircraft......okay maybe for a quick trip to Spain or Portugal but nothing above three hours!

Room Tip: those in Block 100 are the newer rooms and therefore much more modern, the downside being they are n...

This was a class holiday, 56 of us went spread out from macronissos to Protarus, 14 of us stayed at the Macronissos,We were there for a wedding and I was best man, this was an ideal location as te bus was 1 euro and came every 20 mins outside the hotel, we were within a 10 min walk to the Waterpark and 20 min stroll to Nissi beach, I reccomend doing both of the above. We went b and b 1st week then all inclusive while we were there, the food was nice to be honest, we did our exploring in the first week and then ate at the hotel the second week, the pool was clean and warm, the entertainers were great, Rob, Becky and Cath and kept us occupied until 1am, but the bar only closed when the last person went to bed.We made some good friends there, Ivan is a legend, We stayed for 2 weeks and it seemed like 2 years but in a good way, we did everything, I myself strained my calf in football after not even touching the ball all match lol, then after that got prickly heat, went to a wedding, waterpark, nights out in Aiya napa, nights in the hotel, trips to protarus, theckla beach, there is even a kebab shop just to the right of the main entrance, 4.80 euro for a donner and they were gorgeous.
