“Nice hotel - comfortable with lovely beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2010

We've just come back from 10 nights at this hotel on an all inclusive basis. What you get is good value for money, but there are a few comments I would like to make which I didn't read prior to going.

GARDEN BUNGALOWS (Sometimes called a JNR SUITE)
Room was spacious and had a beautiful outlook over the ocean. We were lucky enough to be across from the playground, as we have 2 small kids which was a bonus. Kitchenette was in good working order but there is no cutlery or cleaning implements/solutions so if you are planning on cooking do take those with you. I will also mention that in 10 days the used cups weren't washed and put away as apart of housekeeping, mind you, our sheets were only changed once and though the floor was spotless the surfaces didn't appear to be cleaned while we were there. The room was lovely though and well maintained. Unless you looked hard (we had a baby crawling on the floor so anything left was promptly eaten!) it probably wouldn't bother you.

RESTAURANT
There was really only one option for eating when you have young children as the other option is a 5 course meal which my kids wouldn't have lasted through. The buffet for all courses was good quality, though was a bit repetitive - especially with offerings for lunch and dinner. There was a children's buffet but it only ever contained chips, pasta (1 option) and fish fingers, chicken nuggets or sausages. There is also a lovely kids table but it has a big TV at the end so though it may have its place, if they sit there they're essentially eating dinner in front of the telly which got annoying.

BEACH
The beach is beautiful! Really lovely and warm and fantastic sand. Very safe for children too. A 5 minute walk from the resort - well worth the stroll.

POOLS
there are two pools, both which are lovely. Lounge chairs are at a premium and we noticed that by the end of breakfast they're all covered in towels even if they're never sat on!

ENTERTAINMENT
Can only comment on the disco and general entertainment staff around the pools etc. They were all very friendly and really did go out of there way to help out or entertain the kids. The adult entertainment started at 10pm which was a bit too late for our little ones but apparently it was good value and a bit of a laugh.

WATER PARK
We went along to the local water park which was brilliant. I would say however that if you have kids which are under 105cm tall there is only 1 ride which they can go on, so it can be a very expensive day if they don't meet the height requirement and are older than 3. You can't ride with kids between your legs - so don't count on that option.

FITNESS CENTRE
Pretty basic which isn't surprising as there's not many people using it. No working running machines - all out of order. 2 bikes, one in air con, one not. Numerous weight machines and free weights but often random weights rather than sets.

All told its a lovely well maintained resort which makes it easy to pass 10 relaxing days in the sun with the family. As its at the end of Ayia Napa you wouldn't know you were in a party resort, but if you wanted that option you're only a 15 minute walk into the action. Best of both worlds really.

we stayed at this fantastic hotel for 10 days from the end of june and i wish we was still there. i will be honest with my review as i think these sites do help when choosing your ideal holiday, we arrived very tired after a 5hr filght at around 1.30 am to be greeted by a warm friendly smile and to be told the bar had been left open for us and sandwiches, beleve me the glass of wine was needed so i thought that was a lovley start to our holiday. when we was sat enjoying are drinks the manager came and intoduced is self ans was such a lovley man, he went out of his way all the time we was there to say hello to us and the children and check that everthing was ok, he certainly runs a tight ship as the service was excellent the whole time we was there, waiter service was excellent at bar and in the resturant never a long wait for drinks and allways served with a smile. we had a family room wich was lovley biggest room we have had with seprate space and privacy for our 2 boys to sleep made a nice change to not have them right at the side of us, room was cleaned every day to a high standerd and tea ect replenished, she did a very good job cos belive me with 2 boys and my hubby she had her work cut out, we left her tip at the end wich she wasn't going to take but i insisted as she had worked so hard. food was to die for such a wide choice, whole salmon king prawns the works best food we have ever had at a all inclusive, we also had 1 al a carte meal wich you get with your stay, it was amazing am not a big eater but i could hardley walk when i come out i was that full.kids club was fantastic for my 2 boys they loved it and wanted to go every day we had to stop them one day as we wanted some time with them to play in pool together, my eldest was mad about super sarah but they was all fab and came to wave us off when we left and gave both boys hugs. ayia napa itself is lovley some nice shops and bars, we went to the famous strip one night, if you have children go early before the young ones come out, we went about 9o'clock and got free drinks for the kids and pop corn and they also got babges and beach balls from one bar, also most adults drinks are half price too at this time so you dont need to spend a fortune.if you are going with children you must go on the black pearl, we paid on are debit card with the rep wich cost us £94.00 for 2 adults and 2 children the kids also got their faces done for free by the kids reps so they looked the part, we had a amazing time fun for kids as well as the adults, food was also good and drinks not too pricey, we took are own water and nothing was said also what i thought was very good they was not selling stuff to rip you of like when we went to pirate show in magulf a few years ago, all thet sell are t/shirts and these are not forced on you at all. overall this was a fantastic holiday and yes i cried when we got on the coach i will agree with some of the other comments regarding the entertaintment yes it was poor but the kids enjoyed it and we enjoyed meeting other people and having a natter on a night, thompsons do need to sort it out though because it could stop people coming and that would be a shame as it is such a lovley place, i did raise the issue with the rep but i dont think she was impressed with my opions, have been to other thompsons hotels that have only been 3 star and entertainment was better so they do need to sort it, would defo go back though ,you will have the best time if you book this hotel.

Had an amazing time at Sungarden, will defo recommend to anyone being familys and couples, I hard to please when food is concerned but the food was ace.....hence we couldnt stop eating, there is a small childrens section which is over near the children's eating area. NOTE: take extra t- shirts for the children as they do need to where these all the time in the resturant cannot wear swim wear. Also in lobby bar area no vests allowed as my husband was soon corrected and told to change...he simply forgot!! The views are simply amazing, the pools are too there is a large pool around the bungalow section some people dont realise it is there with a bar and baby pool.....all day entertainment is here alittle loud tho as they play music........husband didnt fancy it think he thought i may start dancing in pool ha ha. Lots of different people here, English,Welsh,Scottish,Sweedish,Dutch,French,Polish,Germans and Russians.
Will defo recommend and will most definatley return maybe not next year as we are going to Olympic Lagoon Nissi beach but defo the year after.
Excellent for all children of all year, giving excellent service at all times xx

P.s The black pearl Pirate ship 4hours excursion is a MAJOR must it is 35 euros an adult and i think around 18e a child , 5 and under is free x

Have just returned from this hotel and my family and i were very disappointed , after staying last year at the Fiesta Palm Beach in Ibiza , this was not a patch on that hotel and this is supposed to be 4 star and the palm beach is only a 3 star!! The hotel is lovely if you have older children and i feel this should be stated in the brochure , we have a 5 year old and a 19 mth old, we were staying outside the main hotel in a family room which was great to be right by the park, but also has 3 little steps in the room between the kitchen area and sleeping area, not good with a toddler because you cant take your eyes off him incase he falls! The family pool is up 2 steep little hills ( from our room) which was a pain with the buggy, and thei is the better pool for children as it is where they do the games and have music playing.
The kids entertainment in the evenings was very poor and there was a very 'us' & them feel between the british reps and the international ones, the international reps were very good around the pool getting everyone invovled always spoke when they passed you, the same could not be said for the british reps, they even looked miserable when they were doing the kids songs with them in the evenings!! someof the reps were good, Shorty shaz ,chloe, and keeley and also lori ,sandy, bruno from the international reps were brilliant . part way through the week they moved all the entertainment out side to the ampitheatre which was a nightmare with our youngest as he just wants to run around and there were too many steps!!
The food was quite good although the breakfast was cold every morning, the rest of the meals were nice, and bar snacks were good too . I would not have booked this hotel if i had known is was split over so many levels, so will be returning to Ibiza next time!!

We are a couple with a 4 year old daughter and have just returned from 2 weeks at the SunGardens Atlantica. In summary we had a nice relaxing holiday but would not wish to return there unless there are some improvements.

On arrival I was disappointed with the reception which was a bit dated and was not what I expected. Hotel advertised as "chic" so I had high expectations. Check-in was quick and trouble free. Arrived late (11pm) - managed to get a sandwich and a drink but only through making own enquiries. Little guidance on this on arrival.

Really lovely family suite with extended balcony and big fish swimming just below our balcony on the roof below. A real treat for my daughter. The rooms were really exceptional with a separated off area to create a separate room for daughter sleeping. Very impressed with the room and the views from the room and hotel over the sea were magnificent a real delight.

I would agree with the previous review. Nothing was replenished in the room by the cleaners. Once you had used your coffee or sealed milk pots (after the first day or two) nothing was replaced for the rest of the holiday. For an all inclusive hotel I would expect a better room service than this. Same for the soap and any shampoos etc. Also the shampoos were not in sealed containers which I didnt like.

Also the cleaners were knocking on your door and coming in constantly from around 8am trying to clean. We just had to put out the "do not disturb" sign at bedtime until we went for breakfast. Why do they not clean at lunchtime when everyone is around the pool? Again, they didnt clean properly anyway - just a quick tidy around and make beds/towel change. Underneath the bed was full of dust and crumbs on the floor seemed to stay there for a while. The room, however, was clean and tidy on arrival so presumably they just get a good clean once there is a change of guest.

Beach towels. It took us to day 3 to get up early enough to get a sun lounger near the childrens end of the pool. Putting towels out at 5.30am managed to secure us a choice of sunbeds - 6.30am was too late!! Absolutely ridiculous when on holiday! Many of the beds were not used at all during the day. Once a few more English arrived into the hotel on our second week this improved a bit to around 8am.

The food quality was very good, however, we didnt see much change in the food selections. Even the themed nights only involved say one or two slightly different dishes. If they didnt tell you the theme you would find it hard to guess. The Al La Carte was absolutely delicious so you must book this as soon as you arrive . Took over a week to get a booking and you can only use it once during your visit.

Entertainment - I was very disappointed with this. Kids disco was primarily run by the German Thomson reps. Childrens songs in German with actions - even the English parents couldnt work out what the actions were representing. I have no problem with having English and German songs mixed but the UK Thomson reps could have either sang the English version of the German song or put up the English translation so we could follow it and help the British children join in and vice versa for the German children. Instead they alienated the English children who then just didnt go to the disco at all. Also it was only for 30 mins and then bingo.

There was then a big gap of over an hour before the evening entertainment started. Nearly everyone in the hotel had young children so starting entertainment at 10.00pm was much too late. Children were asleep everywhere. Also the evening entertainment was in a different place to the kids disco - it would have been better to have all together. Also the family suites were above the entertainment arena so it was difficult to just give it a miss because it would keep you awake anyway. However, breakfast finished at 10.00am so you still had to get up for breakfast quite early or miss it.

I feel that to resolve this they should have had the evening entertainment starting at 9pm (or earlier) so we could all be in bed for 10pm.

Also finding out where the children's facilities were and when was difficult. They were giving out prizes for competitions (and somedays were suprised that no one had joined in) but even to the end of the holiday I couldnt find out where these were happening. 75% of all Thomson literature was in German so I couldnt read it. Lot of folders in reception but not one was in English. They just had duplicated sheets for items which they gave you in the welcome meeting up on the wall. An update of news articles were on the reception desk - again no English version.

Beach was also a bit disappointing. It was a walk down to the beach which wasnt too far but you had to pay for sun beds on the beach as it didnt belong to our hotel. 7.50 euros for 2 beds and parasol. Also uphill walk on way back - not ideal for a 4 year old. Also no free facilities - all had to be paid for. Thought from the brochure that the beach would have been on the doorstep. Not quite what I was expecting.

Finally, all inclusive drinks service. All waiter/bar service. During the shows I waited upto to 20 mins to get a drink which I think is ridiculous. Only 1 or 2 bar staff on. In the normal rooms, you had to wait for a waiter to serve you. All designed, I am sure, to reduce the amount of drinks the guests had. Even had to wait/request bottles of water in the restaurant areas. Not ideal and not what we expect from all inclusive.

Probably dont get value for money from this all inclusive hotel.

We travelled as a party of 9 including small children for my mom's wedding which was taking place at the hotel. I was concerned as we had never taken my children on a 2 week holiday before and my daughter had never been abroad but i needn't have worried as this hotel is fantastic and perfect for families with small children. The staff are the friendliest i have ever come across and i have never know staff work so hard!! They are there to help from the time you get up until you go to bed!! The manager Nicos is always on hand and even comes around to the tables in the restaurent to make sure you are ok!! The rooms in the hotel are kept spotless and are also very child friendly, which is exactly what we needed with a 4 year old and a 1 year old running around!!

The pool areas are also fantastic and my son loved the swim up bar!! (just be careful as the entrance to the pool is very slippy and i saw a couple of slips when we were there!!)

The Entertainment is also to a very high standard and the entertainment team do not seem to stop working!!! They are fantastic with the kidsa and adults alike, if i did have to find a fault the only thing i would say is that i think the entertainment shows were on a little bit too late. They did not start until 10pm and finishing at approx 11pm, some people thought this was fine but i thought it was a bit too late for the kids and after a full day playing they were ready for bed by this time and sometimes got a bit grumpy!!

I have stayed at many hotels around the world and i can honestly say that this hotel was better than any 5* hotel i have stayed in anywhere!! i have recommed this hotel to all of my friends and i can honestly say we will definately be back!!!
