We stayed in the Atlantica for 14 nights from 14th Aug – 29th Aug 2013.
There were 3 of us in our family – 2 adults and an 8yr old….
..2 other adults and a further 3 kids (6,8 &9) completed our party.
The main reason for the trip was our friends were getting married there.
Airport – Hotel.
No issues – 45mins transfer. Nice welcome from the hotel staff and they took our luggage to our room.
We stayed in a Junior Suite. This compromised of a bath\shower room (decent size…), kitchenette (never used!) and a main double bed.
There then was a separated twin bed area which led to the sun terrace.
This was lovely – very spacious with ample room for a couple of sun loungers 4 chars and a table…
The view was amazing…. 180 degree view of the sea\beach.
There are a couple of outdoor pools and an indoor pool (not used !)
There is a “quiet” pool with a separated infinity pool area for adults only – but we let our kids go in there as long as they did not splash or make a noise (they were not in there for long)
The other pool is the “activity” pool which is where we spent most of our time.
The music is at just the right volume so you can speak and have a conversation without it disturbing you.
There are plenty of sunbeds, however there were people putting towels on the beds before 6:30AM !! (we did not need to – however I understand if you have young children it is easier to be close to the pool edge !)
Cant complain about the food at all. The restaurant manager will shake your hand at every meal and if you are no happy with anything, will do what he can to ensure you are happy.
One of our party asked if they could have one of the lunch meals put by for evening – and he just got the chief to make some up. (they also did the same for my daughter)
They have “speciality” nights, such as Chinese, fish, bbq, Italian and Greek; all lovely. Our favourite was the bbq beef… but keep an eye out for vine leaves, apple pie & custard and the lovely swordfish.
You are also entitled to 1 visit to the a-la-carte area, where you get waited on and can pick from a set menu…. Again lovely.
TIP – book early !!
The drinks are all local… the Keo beer was OK and the wine took some getting used to – but again was OK
I stuck to the Vodka & mixer, when they get to know how you like your drinks they do remember (as I do like mine quite strong !!)
There is also a dress code of no vests in the restaurants…. So pack plenty of T-Shirts !!
Now this is where I cannot praise the hotel enough.
Everyone from the cleaning staff, restaurant waiters\waitresses (Andreas, Yannis, Bernadette etc..), receptionists, pool bartenders (Daniel & co) and even the hotel manager Nicos, all work extremely hard to ensure you have whatever you want.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the hotel staff that looked after us in our 2 week there.
Kids Clubs \ Reps
The is where our expectations were again exceeded.
For our 8 year old to be in tears as she leaves the arms of M&M(Emma) just goes to prove how much she loved being in the company of the Thompson kids clubs reps.
Each of them went the extra mile to ensure the kids in our party were fully catered for.
Other special thanks goes to “Diva Dan”, “Happy Helen”, “Candy Kate”, “Ravin Ryan”, “Bobby” and all the others who made not only our kids happy, but gave the adults peace of mind so we could relax
The shows from 7:30-9:30ish were put on by the reps, and from 9:30ish either the reps did a show or they brought in an act from outside.
To be honest – the reps shows were better than the special guests (although the magician was good !)
The reps looked to be having fun on stage and enjoyed dragging a few of us the participate.
TIP – get up there and have fun… You get to know the reps and they get to know you.
There is a gym on site. It is split into 2 areas. A cardio area with a few weight machines and a separate room with free weights \ smiths machine etc..
It never got that busy – max I saw was 3 people in at any one time so I did not have to wait long for any equipment.
What they do offer though is a daily fitness programme. (ranging from Zumba to a basic aerobc workout)
This was run by Sporty Sally (Anastasia)– who is fantastic. She does her best to get you involved and is a great laugh !!
We did 3.
The Black Pearl- extremely expensive (70 Euro for the 3 of us) but had to be done for the kids. They did love it though.
TIP – Take your own drinks (and food – the hotel can provide you a packed lunch) – it will save you some cash !
The water park.. again – very expensive (90Euro) . But definitely worth it if you have kids over 1.2m tall !! (smaller kids will not get on all the slides)
TIP – Get there early (10AM).
The Yellow Submarine. Loved it (20Euro for the 3 of us) !!! It is only 90mins long, but the diver (Yoghi) is a great laugh and was great with the kids. We stopped at the caves just in front of the hotel and he took us all for a swim inside them. Brilliant !
The main drag is about 15-20min stroll away and it costs 8Eruo in a taxi.
TIP- Get a cab to the harbour if you have kids, have a look around and then walk back along the beach !
There also seems to be a large influx of eastern European \ Russian people to the area – not a problem a tourist would notice, but was definitely an issue when speaking to some of the locals !
To get to the beach – it is a 5min walk down the steps and along the wooden pathway.
TIP – Get face mask and snorkel and check out the fish near the rocks….
We also did the ringos (15 Euro Each), JetSki (60Euro for 2 people) and the Paragliding (70Euro for 3) – all very expensive. So take this into account if you have a budget !
It gets VERY hot….. take plenty of sun cream as it is very expensive out there !!
Thanks - Spen, Lo and Bailey xx
We had a Junior Suite... 180 Degree view of the sea... and plenty of room for 3 or 4.
