“GREAT location....shame about the bells !!”

Napa Plaza Hotel

Jul 7, 2008

Great location would have to be top reason for choosing this hotel, we've stayed just about everywhere else over the last 20 years and did stay here many moons ago when it was the Napia Star until it's refurb several years ago when it was renamed the Plaza. WHAT a refurb it was.....it's truly lovely inside and the rooms are excellent too....albeit not the one we had, but more of that later!

We had REALLY bad issues with the swipe keycards, which resulted in us walking 100's of yards back and forth to reception trying to sort or waiting in the corridor for maintenance to let us into our room. In the end we refused to accept yet another keycard (number 9 !!!) so they relented and gave us a regular key which served it's purpose well unlike the [--] keycards......note to Plaza management - It's a nice idea and a little upmarket touch but not so good if the damn things never work !!

Plenty of parking, with the main entrance being somewhat hidden on Makarious Avenue, there's a barrier system and intercom in operation so you don't end up with non residents using the car parking. Reception area and back of the Liquid bar area is fabulous very funky and modern. Check in was breeze despite it being 4am. We were helped with our bags by a porter and shown to our room which was in the far right hand corner of the square shaped atrium style to the rooms. We hadn't upgraded to a pool view as we didn't see the extra expense worth it but we did pay extra for a superior room. This meant we got a kettle, fridge and all coffee/tea & milk and guest toiletries included and the all neccesary aircon.

The room was large with 2 single beds, a large sofa, large TV, double patio doors, large balcony and average bathroom with bath & shower. Plenty of wardrobe space and a large dressing table. Main gripe here was the utter lack of plug sockets....we had ONE spare to use, unplugging the TV or fridge wasn't an option as it would have involved moving heavy furniture. The lighting wasn't fabulous either and it was quite a dull light, that could be because we looked out onto a brick wall and small garden area....and of course the CHURCH & it's BELL Tower !!

They really ought to mention that bell tower and the effect it can have on the back rooms as we had. We were first awoken on Saturday morning at 7.10am, we were so close we thought we were in the bell tower, we almost fell out of our beds the noise was sooo loud. However the bells only lasted about 10 minutes and then the mosque started up and the prayers being said through a loud speaker directly facing our room.....we had to laugh about it or we would have cried. This happened 4 times during an 10 days holiday so not the end of the world but a warning would have been very welcome. Next time we stay we'll be requesting a differently located room for sure.

The staff were very friendly in general, especially ther night porter and the pool bar staff. Breakfast was an excellent affair with a huge choice and the best coffee machine ever. The range was enormous, from cold meats, pastries, cereal, full english, yoghurts, cakes, fruit......the list was endless. Again only gripe would be that we're on holiday and I can't believe how many hotels finish breakfast service so early at 10am, however it was good enough to get us out of bed every day bar 1. There's an inside area to eat or an lovely outside area above the bar area.

We did eat twice from the pool snack bar area and found the snacks to be really nice and not too expensive....although the soft drinks were pretty overprices as were ice creams etc. The pool area was pretty large with lots of sunbeds, it wasn't too crowded when we first arrived but by the end of our holiday when more guests had arrived it was pretty crammed full with little space or beds to be found at midday. Pool towels are provided FOC from the gym reception and you can change them for new one's as and when you desire, you then hand them in and get your tickets back to return to reception.....note if you don't do this they'll charge you for the towels!

We spent most of our days out & about enjoying all our favourite beaches on the East of the island in our hire car. The odd day we did spend time at the pool there was plenty going on in the form of games and volleyball organised by the anamation team at the hotel. We only drank in Liquid Bar at the front of the hotel in the evenings and didn't stay for dinner or evening entertainment so can't comment on either.

One small quibble with the aircon.....I suspect they have one of those autoair freshner systems built into the main aircon unit to emit pleasant fragrances throughout the rooms. However these need to be changed regularly or they begin to have the opposite effect.....and the Plaza had this issue unfortunately, the system smelt of stale urine when it was switched on and this was I'm sure only down to a change of fragrance filter. We did report this at reception and again on nour feedback form, hopefully they'll investigate.

We will most certainly be back at the Plaza next year, in fact I'm not sure we'd go elsewhere now as the location was so good and the rooms more tham adequate. We'll just be sure to remember the niggles we encountered this time and hopefully not have to endure them now we know what's what.

“Best Holiday At Napa Plaza”

Napa Plaza Hotel

Jul 3, 2008

Me and my boyfriend have just came back after staying at the napa plaza for 1 week in june and what a fantastic time we had there!! The hotel was fantastic, the service was great and was in the perfect location.

Hotel!!
We arrived at the hotel, and were amazed at the decor of the hotel. Everything was spotless and lookd brand new. We were greeted with fresh fruit and a glass of champagne, which i thought was lovely. The workers there were lovely and couldnt do enough for you.
We paid extra for the superior room (which is well worth the extra) the rooms are big and roomy with plenty of storage of space ( which is what i needed being a 18 year old girl with too many shoes) The bathroom was modern and clean and there was a maid service evryday.
The pool area was great. ainly full of couples, which was ideal as i was with my boyfriend. There was activities going on everyday by the pool so there was plenty to do there. The hotel was in a great location 2 mins from the lively square and 5 mins from the beautiful sandy beach. Also burger king and pizza hut are right next door which was great for when you coming back from the bars with the drunkrn munchies. We paid a visit ther most nights.

We stayed at the napa plaza at the end of june and the weather was scortching. Ther are plenty of posh restaurants surrounding the hotel and the margarita cocktails over there are to die for.

Overall the hotel was fantasic.. the nicest hotel i have ever stayed in before. Its moderen, clean, and well more than a four star!!

TIP.. Try a day out at nissi beach and the waterpark.. We had great fun both of these days. With the watersports on offer on the beach and was only 7 euro in a taxi!!

I would reccomend this hotel to anyone and will deffo be going back again. Infact i have already pursuaded my mum to go next year and she has already booked it!

friend recommended this hotel and after checking reviews on here booked it. absolutely loved the hotel. can only describe it as a tranquil oasis amidst bedlam (thats a good thing) the heart of ayia napa is on your doorstep, if you want it, if not then stay within the hotel and chill at the brilliant poolside, eat in several restaurants (food was excellent always) and lounge in the pepper bar. we may have missed the best of entertainment in ayia napa but dont care the pepper bar was the tops. fridays rocked. dj made us up a cd and cant stop playing it now home and remembering our fantastic holiday. brilliant house music and good wine and people watching, perfect. staff were really friendly and could not do enough to help you.

the room - was okay - booked a junior suite (would say this is a must), nice view over pool. only negative was bathroom - very small and smelled on arrival but request for new shower curtain (quickly met) resolved the issue.

breakfast was great - dont know what the fuss about the toaster was all about, quickest toaster ive encountered on holiday! food excellent.

and as for the bells! yeah heard them, and liked them, what were people fussing about. on our first night we had a lot of door slamming and bunch of girls hassling the guys in the room across, quick call to reception, instantly resolved and no more problems rest of holiday.

we are hard to please travellers, always find something lets the holiday down but this time no complaints. brilliant hotel, fantastic food, pepper bar - the tops and the staff were all fantastic. this is a 3 star hotel but i would say is a good 4 star. one of the few hotels i have been to that i could say i would be happy to return to.

“Great Hotel”

Napa Plaza Hotel

Jun 26, 2008

The Napa Plaza

LOCATION - The hotel is situated in an excellent location, right in the centre of Ayia Napa, Its a 2 minute walk from the square which has all the bars and clubs and outside the hotel there are a selection of pubs, shops and restaurants everything within walking distance, the beach was about a 10 minute walk. This hotel is right next to the monastry but i never heard the bells ring at all

THE HOTEL - I was very pleased when i first arrived, hotel was very modern and clean with helpful staff who showed us to our room. This hotel was full of couples young and old and suited us perfectly as my boyfriend and i went with another couple. The Hotel wasn't noisy at all and it had a modern bar area that looked fantastic at night and the cocktails are amazing, didn't really like the Pepper bar's music. The pool area is quiet and really relaxing could do with some lively music instead of the chill out music

THE ROOM - We just booked a standard room, we requested a pool view but got a view looking out on the street and it was above the pepper bar so we could chill on our balcony and listen to music, this didn't bother me at all as we weren't in the room much to hear the noise from the bar. The rooms are a fairly decent size, 2 single beds pushed together, a small table and 2 chairs and a dressing table with a large mirror. There was plenty of storage space, Hairdryer and safe in the room (this doesn't cost too much), Bath with shower attached. Aircon wasn't too good when first turned on but we kept my boyfriends student card in the attachment that can keep this on all day long so room ended up freezing, which was a great as it was so hot outside.

When going to Ayia Napa try Los Bandidos mexican, good food and atmosphere, we had to book this in advance as it is so popular, we also went to a scottish bar called Craig's karoke bar that sold cheap drinks at 2 euro. Ayia Napa itself is a lovely place has friendly people and the weather is roasting, would def return and esp to this hotel!!

“Brilliant holiday at the Napa Plaza”

This was our third holiday in Aiya Napa, and location-wise this was the best, it's like an oasis in the middle of the town, yet it is 5 minutes walk to the bars and nightlife.
The hotel was very clean, staff very friendly, especially Atham and Marios in Peppers Bar. The Breakfast was fantastic, everything you could wish for, and the two toasters do work very well !!!
All the bad reviews I read were from people who had been at the start of the season, when the hotel is very quiet, so I would'nt expect the hotel to be running at full steam at that time of year.
We only booked a standard pool view room, which was fine very clean, the aircon was fine, no fridge but did'nt miss one and was'nt bothered for tea/coffee facilities, but the TV was fine, more channels than any other Cyprus hotel we've stayed in.
The only minus points were that the bathroom needed updating and the radio did'nt work but everything else worked.

Had a brilliant holiday and will definately go back to the Napa Plaza Hotel next time we go to Aiya Napa.

Warning: Take plenty of spending money Cyprus much dearer now than last year
