“Lovely Hotel, Lovely location and great for everyone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

I was at this lovely hotel at the beginning of November on my own. I had to get away and after reading all the reviews, I confidently booked this hotel and made my way. I found the staff very helpful and kind. I arrived with a chestful of cold and in need of R&R. The housekeeping staff were very kind and concerned for my welfare. Restaurant staff were helpful and always asking to see if I was okay. Food at the restaurant was very lovely, fresh and different. Not your usual all inclusive recycled nonsense that you find in some hotels. Well maintained pools and great beach chair system whereby you get allocated a chair for the duration of your stay. I do think that the jacuzzi ought to be free to use as you have to pay to use it or if you book via a package deal you get it free. Very close to Ayia Napa and there are a few restaurants and shops nearby. Bus stop opposite takes you around on a bus for less than 2 Euros. Very convenient and beautiful hotel. Will be returning with my husband in tow!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

This hotel is located in Ayia Napa at the seaside. If you want to rate the hotel only because of this then you should rate it with 5 stars.
I have visited this hotel in November 2013. Infront of the hotel was no doorman. But inside he was waiting, watching me how I have opened my car to pull the luggage out of it and to carry it into the hall/lobby. A girl from the receiption arrived to ask for the voucher. Then we have received a lemon juice as a welcome greet.
After the check in we have gone to the room which has had a sea view. The room itself was furnished and decorated very simple. It has no touch of a 5 star hotel. The hotel informes the guest to pay attention to environment reasons. If you want to exchange wet or dirty towels you should put it into the bath tub which we have done waiting that it would be changed to get fresh towels. But within 11 hours the room mate has not done it. A second person has prepared the bed to get into for the night. The sheet was opened upside down. But nobody has poured out the rubbish bin. The dirty towels were still laying in the bath tub. The breakfast was served inside the restaurant and outside on a terrace. The everage age of the guests in November was about 70 years. Some of them were taking bread out of the restaurant to feed the birds on the terrace. Others have taken away bread or fruits for picknick outside the hotel. The quality and the offered breakfast has the standard of a 3 star hotel. Within 5 days one time smoked salmon was offered. It looked and tasted very old. The reception staff was helpless when it comes to complaints or questions. None of them were able to answer the question how far away is nicosia(lefkosia), the capital of Cyprus. One lady at the reception has asked her colleague. His answer was 70 km. The distance is about 90 km. Each of them can check it in internet with help of google maps. But this is unknown in the hotel. The bar has had entertainment in the evening of a perfect singer. At 10:30 p.m. one waiter and one barkeeper were caring about the guests. The drinks were expensive: for examble Baileys 3 cl=5 €. At 11:15 no staff were seen anymore. We were waiting for the bill at the bar. After 5 minutes the entertainer (singer) was searching (while singing with the microphone in his hand) for the barkeeper in the kitchen...The garden looks perfect. The pool is waiting for guests. The beach is infront of the hotel. You can park your car in a garage. The check out was poor: Nobody has asked for satisfaction or was offering help for the luggage.
Ayia Napa was a nightmare in November: 85% of hotels, bars and restaurants were closed. Streetworks have started but nobody has finished it. So you will find a lot of damaged pedestrian ways.
My personal opinion:
Check in: 2 points
room: 3 points
Hotel: 3 points
Reception: 2 points
breakfast: 3 points
garden:4 points
facilities:3-4 points
beach:4 points
cleanliness:2-3 points
bar:2-3 points

Room Tip: seaview is best

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience on trip advisor concerning your short stay at the Alion. We are very disappointed to read that the level of our servcie provided was below your expectations. I would like to appologize on behalf of the whole Alion team and to assure you that your valuable feedback has been discussed with all head of departments. Appropriate action has been taken to rectify the quality gap.
November is the biginning of the low season (with excellent weather!) and Ayia Napa becomes more quite. This is the ideal time for all those guests who would like to extend their summer and benefit from the very low rates in combination with the excellent weather (in only 3 hours flight from north Europe!). Of course the average age is higher as well as the needs of these guests vary . For guests who are looking for more action we would suggest the main season up to the end of october. During the main season the whole Ayia Napa resort is in full operation with many activity options and all shops and restaurants open.
Thanking you once again for your feeback we look forward to welcoming you back earlier in the season.

I have been staying at the alion since 1997. This hotel is hard to put into words. From the greeting at reception to the service at the bars and restaurants, this hotel is the best! I had reservations about my latest trip as I had always enjoyed staying at the alion as a girls holiday with my mum who passed away last year. But I should of known better the staff were respectful and discreet about my mums passing and once again made this a memorable happy trip !
Special thanks as always go to George ( reception) Yannis , zenios miltos and panicos. Also extra thanks should also go to our maid as they are amazing I am not the tidiest person but she put all my shoes together and after she had been our room was immaculate !
Thanks again all I hope to see you all soon for trip number ???
Best wishes
Jo Harrison

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We have just returned from our 4th trip to the Alion, staying 24 to 31 October 2013. The weather for the whole week was stunning – not a single cloud in the sky. However, the sun did go down early, by 4pm, but it was still warm and much of an improvement on England!

The hotel is now like our second home and we have made such great friendships with Yiannis, Christos, Xenos and George (Reception) over the past 3 years. They really do make our holiday. Nothing is too much trouble. Our daughter is a very fussy eater and on our last day, whilst waiting for the taxi to the airport, we asked Christos if the chef at the snack bar would be able to make a plain tuna sandwich for our daughter. In less than 10 minutes our request was delivered upstairs at the main bar. It was also lovely to meet Constanina this year, who is a great addition to the bar staff team. She was always smiling and happy to help, with a great sense of humour.

We stayed on a B&B basis and breakfast time was always pleasant – no big crowds, no pushing and shoving – just peace and quiet. As always, there was a great variety of food and drink on offer.

We love the allocated sun bed system at this hotel – no getting up at 6am and rushing for a sunbed. Although we did not have a great deal of choice as the hotel was full, the 3 sunbeds allocated to us were in a perfect spot. As guests come and go, you can request to alternative sunbeds.

Towards the last couple of days of our stay, quite a few bars/restaurants had already shut down along the main road near the hotel and it seemed that they had closed earlier than normal. Perhaps this is down to the current economic problems in Cyprus. However, if you walked further along the road, past the Abacus Restaurant, and turned right, this took you to the main strip which was still lively. The Golden Arrow provided quite a good atmosphere with friendly staff – Karaoke a bit cheesy but quite fun entertainment and very busy.

We mainly used the buses to get around as they are so cheap – 1.50 euros. Taxis down to the main Nissi Beach/Avenue (approximately 10 minutes) would be anywhere between 8 and 10 euros – not really justified!

On our last day our pick up was not until 6pm; however, we were allowed to keep our room until 6pm at no extra charge. This provided a stress free last day and meant we did not have to rush around in the morning, packing and worrying about having to be out of our room at midday, and fretting about where to shower, etc. More hotels should adopt this approach. After all, on many occasions you do not arrive at your hotel until late in the evening but have paid for it from 2.00pm. The Alion is not money grabbing in this way whatsoever; all they are worried about is happy customers and this is evident from the daily presence of the manager, Michael Panicos – another credit to the hotel. You will always see him walking around, smiling and asking if everything is ok.

The only 2 minor negatives for us is that the bathrooms are now quite dated and in need of refurbishment but we were informed that refurbishments will taking place during the winter period. Drinks are also expensive and although we expect this in a 5 star hotel (and always have) we feel that 21 euros for 3 large milkshakes was excessive (especially as they contained 2 scoops of ice cream and milk). However, these are just minor issues and would never deter us from returning to such a wonderful, relaxing place.

We met some lovely people from Scotland and Ireland who we had a real laugh with on a couple of evenings – thank you Rob and Pam and Margaret and Ian. We hope to see in Cyprus again in the near future (perhaps at the Alion!).

Once again, thank you to everyone at the Alion Beach Hotel for providing us with, yet again, another fantastic memorable holiday. We really do hope to return next year after our daughter has completed her exams.

Keep up the good work and have a thoroughly deserved break during the winter season.

The Wallis Family

We went to the Alion 16th October 2013 with out daughters (19&13 years old).
Had a great relaxing week.
Our rooms were clean and modern but we couldnt get a sea view room as these are booked early in advance by repaet visitors.
The hotel is spotless and the staff very friendly.
The pool area is small but sufficient as nobody seems to use it as the beach is on hand and the sea was nice even October.
The lunch's around the pool are a good standard and the staff very friendly.
Average lunch is 10-12 euros.
Wifi is around the pool area and lobby which is great but you have to pay for your room so I had to pay 30 euros for my daughters to keep in touch with home which lets the hotel down as most hotels of this calibre have free wifi.
The gym is good with excellent equpment.
The corridors can be very noisy so once people are up and about you have an interrupted sleep.
The reception put DVD films on at 9 and 11pm and they are recent films but I feel a DVD player in each room would be more prsctical as you could take your own films to watch when you want to watch them.
Only BBC news channel and a BBC entertainment channel are for UK visitors.
The policy of picking your sunbeds on arrival is a great idea as it takes all the stress out of the pool area.I wish all hotels did this.
The hotel is a pleasant 10 minute walk in to Ayia Napa.
I would definatelly return but possibly in September as alot of bars and restaurants were shut or had very little atmoshere.
The only resevation is I would want a sea view room and it does seem difficult to book one of these.

Room Tip: book a sea view room a year before you wish to go.

Dear guests, Thank you very much for your excellent review. We are thrilled to hear that you had an excellent family holiday at the Alion. I would like to grap the opportunity and comment on two points mentioned: Wi - Fi will be as from 1st March 2014 free through out the hotel (including hotel room). Sea view rooms are indeed booked very early in advance especially in certain periods. As it is a different room category (sea view supplement applies) we woudl recomment an early reservation in order to secure one.
On behalf of the whole Alion team I would like to thank you once again for your great support and we all look forward to welcoming you back before not too long for another "Alion Bach Holiday Experience"
