“Oasis of Calm and Excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We stayed for a week in early October and can only endorse the very many other positive reports. It has an understated simplicity and elegance and certainly delivers if you want a peaceful week with superb service and excellent food.

I say that even though I have to eat gluten free. I had personal advice every night from the chef as to what I could and could not eat with the offer to make me something if there was nothing that attracted me - a situation that never arose. They were all extremely diligent in ensuring I did not eat any gluten and offered gluten-free bread at breakfast. We did not try the (expensive) a la carte as we were half board with Thomson and were very happy with the food on offer in the dining room. The lunches were also varied and good and we thought compared favourably with the far less impressive meals at neighbouring beach cafes. Lovely to sit by the pool with a view of the sea surrounded by grass and flowers. Not so lovely when we had torrential rain and the eating area was flooded!

Several days were cloudy with a bit of rain but we were extremely unlucky as the weather before and after was perfect - hot sun and blue sky. Even on the overcast days it was still in the high twenties and warm at night so one could eat outside (with an allocated table) and a view of the lights of Ayia Napa in the distance. Beautiful. October is clearly a good time to go.

The allocated loungers is a brilliant idea and we found a pair we were happy to have even though there was not much choice on our arrival. I imagine it would be possible to move if you are not content with the location (some for example had no view of the sea which we wanted - and got). As the garden area is not very large the loungers are pretty close together. The beach is seconds away and lovely; you could always get a lounger and umbrella, although they are not free. The sea was warm (once in) and almost totally sandy underfoot. It varied from calm as a millpond to dangerous for swimming (with a red flag). I only used the outdoor pool once as I prefer the sea. It is relatively small but as you will probably have it to yourself that is not a problem. There is also an indoor pool.

The room was good (bathroom not huge) and a nice balcony - not as luxurious as other five star hotels we've stayed in.We paid the supplement for a full sea view which was worth it. The air-conditioning was quiet and effective.

All the staff, as everyone reports, are keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We never had to wait for service anywhere as there is an impressive staff:guest ratio.

We enjoyed the evening music, low key and pleasant.

I was pleased that wi fi access was free in the lobby and round the pool (although not in the bedrooms). (I have been charged for this even at other 5 star hotels). However, we hardly saw any use of modern technology, even mobile phones, which made a welcome and refreshing change!

It is clearly a hotel better suited to the more mature who wish to relax and be pampered in a calm tranquil atmosphere in a small, select hotel.

I'm afraid I was not a great fan of the local resort Ayia Napa ( a ten minute stroll along the beach) and none of the tours attracted us much compared to many other places we've visited. So, perhaps not the best choice if you want lots of interesting outings to historic sites.

Overall, we very much enjoyed our week and are grateful to all the staff at the hotel for their attention.

I recently stayed at the Alion Beach Hotel for just the one night, a friend from overseas and I took two single rooms on a lying visit to Agia Napa.
The other reviewers have said it all really, the location is great (10 min walk to the town centre) the hotel and rooms are immaculately clean, the staff are both efficient, helpful and friendly and the manager obviously has great pride in the hotel and facilities.
My wife will be visiting me in Cyprus next year and I plan on a longer stay at the Alion and am looking forward to the stay.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are worth the extra.

This was the 5th time to Alion. October is a fantastic month in Cyprus and we have stayed for 14 days each time. This is a nice hotel, not too big, with most facilities and an excellent location at the beach.
The staff at all positions is great, friendly, professional, serviceminded and they stay in their posititions from year to year. They are resonsible for the gentle at atmoshere with an eager director as the "front runner".
We highly recommend the hotel to others. and we will be back for the 6th time in October 2013 if life will so. Kind regards Siri and Stein

Room Tip: The see view rooms and panoramic rooms add most value.

Visited this hotel in May for 5 nights to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. We got married in Cyprus and have been back every year since but stayed in different hotels so each trip was slightly different to the last.

We booked the Alion through Book Cyprus (who I would highly recommend, they are the cheapest around and we have never had a problem with them).

The hotel was clean and the rooms were lovely. The breakfast was brilliant, great variety and choice and all very good quality. We went B&B because there are so many high quality restaurants in Ayia Napa that it was be a waste to go anything other than B&B - however, the A La Carte menu looked lovely and if we had had more days we would have eaten there. We did however have lunch around the pool every day which was really good, every meal we have was delicious!

The staff are what really make the hotel, the reception staff were not that friendly (APART FROM THE GENTLEMAN, i think his name was George), which is a shame because all the other staff were amazing. The bar staff during the day and evening were so friendly and made a real effort to have a conversation with you. Yannas and Zenios were really great and made us feel very welcome!

I have only rated the cleanliness 4/5, this no reflection on the hotel and rooms itself as this would be 5/5, however the pool while in way filthy could have done with a bit of a clean.

Location is brilliant, 10 mintues in Ayia Napa, which as I said before has some amazing restaurants! Be sure to visit Sage and you will not be disappointed!

Next year is probably our last year back to Cyprus due to other committments and will be our 6th Anniversary - we always planned to go back to the Grecian Park as this was our first hotel in Cyprus and wedding hotel, however, we loved the Alion so much that we are now doing 1 night at the Grecian Park & 6 at the Alion Beach! Unfortunately, we were too late to book a Sea View room at the Alion for next May, so have had to book a Side Sea View, we stayed with a Park View this year and after one of the friendly cleaners let us into a sea view room to see the view we cannot express how much the extra should be paid to get that view!!

Thank you to the staff at the Alion for making this a lovely holiday for us and we looked forward to seeing you again in May 2013!

Room Tip: Go for a Sea View!!!

Our staff is our asset and we are very proud for them. We work as a team to provite excellent personal service and we always learn from our mistakes. I would like to appologize on behalf of the whole team if some members of the front desk team gave you a wrong impression as this was never their intention.

This was our 6th holiday at this hotel and once again everything met up to our expectations and more. The hotel deserves its 5 star rating and in our opinion should be given an extra star for the attention to detail given by the manager Panicos Michael. We plan to return next year, this time for 3 weeks. Two weeks at the hotel is good, 3 weeks sounds even better.

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to the Alion and, yet again, it met all of our expectations. There are so many positives about this hotel that it would be too timely to list them all, but one of the best is the allocated sun beds on arrival, which you can change at any time, and which we did on one occasion. I am an avid reader of reviews on Trip Advisor and one of the main problems I see with many people's reviews is having to get up to reserve sun beds at 6am. Who wants to do that on holiday? At the Alion, because you have allocated sun beds for the duration of your stay, this is never a problem. It works perfectly and I still do not understand why other hotels do not adopt this approach! It makes the holiday so stress free and relaxing.

Check-in as usual was quick with cold drinks and cold flannels on arrival. We were quickly provided with all the necessary information and the porter promptly took our luggage to our room. We arrived quite late at night and the hotel provided us with a plate of sandwiches and crisps in our room.

The staff again were just absolutely brilliant - so professional, friendly and helpful and always asking if everything was ok, from George on Reception to Yiannis, Zenios, Christos and Klaudia in the bar. We saw the manager on most days and he too always asked how we were and if everything was ok.

We stayed on a B&B basis and breakfast was just as good as our previous visits - so much variety and served until 10.30am. We enjoyed eating out on the terrace most mornings in the gorgeous sunshine.

Our room was on the second floor and we had a sea view which really was the icing on the cake. We could see for miles! The room was more than adequate for the 3 of us. You do not need to weigh your luggage down with towels either as this hotel provides more than enough - bath towels and beach towels (with no deposit required). The safe is free of charge too.

We did a coach trip to Salamis and Famagusta and asked the hotel if they could arrange this for us, which Maria on Reception did very efficiently through Eman Tours. It was a brilliant, informative trip.

As mentioned in previous reviews, if you wish to travel around then do so using the buses which run every 20 minutes. The cost is only one Euro although this increases to 2.50 Euros after 11.00pm. Please be aware of the taxi drivers - some are just total rip off merchants. We had an argument with one who tried to charge us 10 Euros to Nissi Beach - the meter said 6.75 Euros. We gave him 8 Euros but he still shouted and swore at us! No wonder the taxis travel around empty most of the time. Having said that, Christos who collected us and returned us to Larnaca Airport was brilliant!

Well, we really could go on praising this hotel but think we have got our message across! The Alion really is, in our opinion, the best hotel in Ayia Napa - we have stayed at 4 others in Ayia Napa and none are nowhere near the standard of the Alion!

Finally, a massive thank you to all the staff at the Alion for giving us another memorable holiday. You are all a credit to the hotel. Keep up the good work! We hope to see you again next year!

Bruce, Linda and Mia (Southampton, England)
