We stayed for a week in early October and can only endorse the very many other positive reports. It has an understated simplicity and elegance and certainly delivers if you want a peaceful week with superb service and excellent food.
I say that even though I have to eat gluten free. I had personal advice every night from the chef as to what I could and could not eat with the offer to make me something if there was nothing that attracted me - a situation that never arose. They were all extremely diligent in ensuring I did not eat any gluten and offered gluten-free bread at breakfast. We did not try the (expensive) a la carte as we were half board with Thomson and were very happy with the food on offer in the dining room. The lunches were also varied and good and we thought compared favourably with the far less impressive meals at neighbouring beach cafes. Lovely to sit by the pool with a view of the sea surrounded by grass and flowers. Not so lovely when we had torrential rain and the eating area was flooded!
Several days were cloudy with a bit of rain but we were extremely unlucky as the weather before and after was perfect - hot sun and blue sky. Even on the overcast days it was still in the high twenties and warm at night so one could eat outside (with an allocated table) and a view of the lights of Ayia Napa in the distance. Beautiful. October is clearly a good time to go.
The allocated loungers is a brilliant idea and we found a pair we were happy to have even though there was not much choice on our arrival. I imagine it would be possible to move if you are not content with the location (some for example had no view of the sea which we wanted - and got). As the garden area is not very large the loungers are pretty close together. The beach is seconds away and lovely; you could always get a lounger and umbrella, although they are not free. The sea was warm (once in) and almost totally sandy underfoot. It varied from calm as a millpond to dangerous for swimming (with a red flag). I only used the outdoor pool once as I prefer the sea. It is relatively small but as you will probably have it to yourself that is not a problem. There is also an indoor pool.
The room was good (bathroom not huge) and a nice balcony - not as luxurious as other five star hotels we've stayed in.We paid the supplement for a full sea view which was worth it. The air-conditioning was quiet and effective.
All the staff, as everyone reports, are keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We never had to wait for service anywhere as there is an impressive staff:guest ratio.
We enjoyed the evening music, low key and pleasant.
I was pleased that wi fi access was free in the lobby and round the pool (although not in the bedrooms). (I have been charged for this even at other 5 star hotels). However, we hardly saw any use of modern technology, even mobile phones, which made a welcome and refreshing change!
It is clearly a hotel better suited to the more mature who wish to relax and be pampered in a calm tranquil atmosphere in a small, select hotel.
I'm afraid I was not a great fan of the local resort Ayia Napa ( a ten minute stroll along the beach) and none of the tours attracted us much compared to many other places we've visited. So, perhaps not the best choice if you want lots of interesting outings to historic sites.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our week and are grateful to all the staff at the hotel for their attention.
