we went on the Red Bus trip, and the trip itself it great. You get to see the old city which is amazing and then the beach trip to the ghost city. The beach is beautiful and it is spooky a bit when you look back and see the war torn buildings. For those reasons you need to go and have a look it is enjoyable and interesting.
However, the discounted ticket that you are given is worthless - none of the shops were in the slightest interested about it and were willing to barter with you anyway. But the guide banged on endlessly on the trip about how valuable they were - in the end it just annoyed us and spoilt it for us. If he wasnt talking about the wonderful cheap discount tickets he was banging on about the DVD which was a must - again not worth the money and would have been better if he didnt mention it over and over again,
We were disappointed also that we booked and paid full fare only to find out that their were no seats upstairs for us till the bus arrived. I think we should have had a discount or told at least so we could book for a day when we could get a seat upstairs. You dont get such a good view of all around you and its is boiling downstairs. If you book an open top bus tour - you should have the option to be able to go upstairs.
Like i said before the trip itself is amazing but thats down to where you are going and is a must to see - so if you go try and book someone else if possible - the Red Bus if basically out to make money out of you and are not really that bothered about you. At the end of the tour the guide told us to tell everyone at our hotel about the trip and how good it was and to make sure we mentioned it to everyone we spoke to - a bit over the top
