A charming restaurant with long-serving staff (always a good sign). Tucked away on a back lane but not too difficult to find, a large easy car park and a pleasant entrance. You're normally spotted approaching and welcomed warmly at the door; then into the (rather small) pre-dinner drinks bar with (in winter) a roaring fire. I've only dined there in winter, and enjoyed the little patio out back for quiet smoking; I could imagine it's good in summer to eat outside.
A menu which hasn't changed in years - if it works and is popular, why change. A good varied choice of starters and of mains so you should find something to suit your mood. If you'd like it, helpful and knowledgeable advice on wines from Elena, the lady sommelier.
Beautifully presented dishes, cooked perfectly and tasting wonderful; not over-large helpings but for most people just right.
This is not a snooty top of the range classy show-off restaurant, so the atmosphere is very civilised without trying to be intimidating. It's likely to feel pleasantly comfortable for those used to the best and to feel pleasingly impressive for those used to less pricey eating.
Given it's consistency (same staff, same menu) you are unlikely to find an "off" evening and I'd expect you're unlikley to have a disappointing meal.
