5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

We have been a few times since my first review of this restaurant and I must say it has got better and better. We would now come here most times when in Almancil. We came with family and we all had fish dishes, sea bass ,sea bream etc all was cooked very well and the starters were very good, good advice about choice of wine as well, and this time we were not the only people in there!!.

“FABULOUS AS USUAL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

I have been to this restaurant several times but it is worth another review. The restaurant is lovely inside and the tables are nicely spaced apart, so you're not all crammed in. The outside is lovely too, again plenty of room between the tables and although it was October we were fortunate enough to be able to sit outside. The food is excellent. A good menu with lots of choice. The prawn dishes are wonderful!! Lunch is very good value, 13 euros for 3 courses, so I believe. The wine is excellent too. The staff are friendly and very efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

“al Fresco dining in Almancil”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

I think this is one of the best places to eat in Almancil, all things considered. The restaurant caters to all with a good eclectic menu that caters for all. solid wine list, good food and excellent service.

“OK, but not as special as we had hoped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

We had seen some good reviews so thought we would try Aquarelle. We had booked a table, which was a good job as the restaurant was busy. It was a very wet and windy evening, so had to eat inside. Service was good - friendly and everything was explained. We opted for the set dinner menu at 28 euros per person. I had the asparagus salad and turbot, both were OK. The crepe suzette dessert was very disappointing, one cold pancake in a bland sauce - a long way from the freshly-made flambeed version. Perhaps the a la carte is more special, but the set dinner didn't feel like good value for money.

“Friendly Staff, Average Food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Aquarelle has got a good reputation locally and having made a booking through the hotel and making our way by taxi we were assured we had made a good choice.

The welcome was good and the menu was explained to us.

We were then served literally 2 small ciabatta breads with an olive and tuna pâté at 2.75 euros each...!

We opted for the set menu and my wife had prawn and avocado salad and the trio of fish and I had the mushroom soup and a steak dish for main. The scallop in my wife's dish was not fresh and tasted awful and the steak dish was something out of Frankie & Benny's! Perhaps there are better options on the menu that we didn't choose but there was an air of disappointment throughout our meal.

Then the deserts came and the banoffie pie tasted ok but the Tarte Tartin was awful and I was shocked at how they could mess that up. It was almost baseless and smothered with a tangy apple compote, again not impressed!

I would have given 2 stars but the staff were friendly and attentive but more attention should be paid to ensure the quality of the dishes complement the smiles..

In the absence of potentially 'a bad day in the office' Aquarelle is perhaps worthy of a visit on the A La Carte Menu as it appears 'you get what you pay for' on the fixed price menu..
