“Interesting castle, though quite rebuilt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

This medieval castle has a fascinating and really old history and is worth the small entrance fee. Get the included guided tour and reserve at least 2 hours for a thorough walk around the premises. The castle has been rebuilt several times during its 500 years long history, I wish there were more left of the original structures inside the main castle.

“Great during special events”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

Medieval Castle of Häme is a great place, especially during special events. In Easter time markets, during Medieval Markets, usually in August and in markets before and after Christmas , there are special programs and interesting activities around the castle. We have visited Hame Castle several times with friends and it's always a pleasure.

“Medieval castle without medieval feeling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2012

This is one of the few medieval castles in Finland and worth a visit. But don't expect especially medieval feeling inside, since many rooms are renovated. The location of the castle is very scenic!

“Worth a visit- special place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

We were really lucky with this castle, as it usually is closed this time of the year. On the day that we were there it was open (even free of charge) beause there was a Christmas market. The whole castle was open and you could tour around in all the rooms, it really was a maze of connected rooms and you get some great views from the upper floor windows. In the adjacent building there was the Christmas market selling all kinds of local arts, food and clothing. Perfect for good quality souveniers and Christmas presents. Inside the museum part there is a nice Cafe in a beautiful setting.

“Cool castle - don't miss the military museum next door”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2010

It's a big old castle, certainly worth the (small) price of admission. You can see what passed for luxury accommodations a few hundred years ago - and how small people used to be, judging from how low the door arches are! But even more interesting to me was the military museum next door, dedicated to the Winter War between Finland and Russia. I'd consider it and Hame Castle one attraction, since they're adjacent and both focus on Finnish military history, even though admission is separate. If you're at all interested in military history, check it out; some exhibits are not labeled in English, but others are, and it's a worthy tribute to the incredible heroism the Finnish defenders showed in the war. Anyway, near the military museum is a Finnish military surplus shop... perfect for souvenirs!
