“Outstanding but I won't go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

Let's start with what's good...no....amazing. This ski lodge is one of the best in the world. The service, the building, the amenities, the food, the owner and the hospitality are second to none. The attention to detail and the Fondue Room are wonderful. But the interior design will prevent me from going back. This is Lech, the Tyrol, an authentic wonder of the world. So why do you decorate the rooms in an Africa, a Moroccan, motif? An then there's the overwhelming abundance of chochki's, objects d'art that consume every horizontal surface. What do you expect the guests to do? Leave their travel objects, their clothes, on the floor? The decorating scheme is entirely impractical. Even the rich and famous need some surface area to place their belongings. This was a frustrating annoyance that will prevent me from going back. But hey, it's just my opinion. Otherwise this hotel deserves all the praise it gets.

Room Tip: Ask the owner to put her object d'art in storage while you're in residence.

Dear guest,

thank you very much for your post here - we're absolutely delighted about your great and also honest review and please rest assured that we will take every single part of it into consideration for the future (we never even thought about the fact, that the art in the rooms could use up too much practical space, so thank you very much for drawing our attention to this aspect!)
We're terribly sorry that our "extravagant" interior design prevented you a bit from enjoying your room - however, one word is completely sufficient and we would have put everything out that interrupted you in completely indulging in our Austrian Hospitality.
We are completely aware that our house is different from the others in Lech - some call it extraordinary, some call it specific - we just call it "Kristiania Lech".
Even though, this eclectic mixture of different cultures and ethnicities isn't everybodys cup of tea, I wouldn't recommend swiping the Kristiania off your list of possible winter destinations right away.
Just give us another chance when you plan your next skiing holiday and ask us directly for one of the Austrian Style Junior Suites - you will be astonished of how "tyrolienne" the Kristiania can present itself.

Once again, it was our utmost pleasure to have you with us and we really appreciate your input!

Best regards and kind wishes from the Omesberg,
Sincerely,

A memeber of the Kristiania Team

This is a very nice hotel but not that good if you're a keen skier as it's quite a distance from the slopes. Great food and excellent service although a bit too formal for my liking. My biggest bugbear was the cost of wine at dinner. The cheapest Pinot noir I could find on the extensive wine list was 62 euros!
Overall We really enjoyed our stay but the inclusion of some cheaper wines would have made it even better and earned the hotel an extra star.

Dear guest,

thank you very much for your post here, we really appreciate you spending time on this and will keep this as constructive critisism for all the future visitors of the Kristiania.

We're completely aware that we're a bit outside of the center, but therefore we can present the Kristiania as something like an Oasis of calm in the normally "oh so busy" Lech. Also, our complimentary shuttle service is (according to other guests) a really good compensation of the short walk to the main lifts and center of town.
Regarding the wine, we're terribly sorry that you didn't found the, let's say "more affordable" options on our wine list. We do understand, that due to the quite numours amount of different choices, it can get a bit complicated to find a suitable kind, but therefore, we have our Sommeliere to provide you with helpful advice and inside-information.

I do hope, that we can keep this all in consideration for your next stay at the Kristiania, as it would be lovely to have you back.
Thank you once again very much for your comment!

Best regards from the Omesberg,
Kind wishes from Lech,

A member of the Kristiania Team

A very well run Hotel. Loved the kids. If you have young kids you need to make sure to ask for their main course to come out with your appetizer, because if not your children will be waiting a long time. Other that this, we loved it. I could not imagine a better ski vacation.

Room Tip: 34 and 35 worked wonderfully for us

i must be honest, the kristiania was not my first choice but i'm glad i ended up there. it was utterly charming, immaculate attention to detail that some five star hotels could learn from. very rare that a boutique can be stylish and warm at the same time but the kristiania has it all. it even have great service. i was meant to be in lech on new year's eve but the pass to lech was closed. i was stuck at st christophe all alone on new year's eve and the owner of kristiania found a room for me and make sure i was taken good care of at st christophe. that is the level of service and personal attention i had never experienced during my quite extensive traveling history. the bed is very comfortable although i had a small bed, it was a single room and a rather last minute reservation so i can't really blame anyone. but for the small room the bathroom is very well equipped (i am very picky on bathrooms). complimentary mini bar, although i dont really use, is always a nice touch. the food is also extremely good and so is the service. it was a short stay but i will definitely go back to this truly lovely hotel in beautiful lech. austrian hospitality at its best!

Room Tip: i had the single room and the bed is small which i am not used to. that is the only complaint.

We went to Lech for skiing and stayed one night at the Kristiania. The hotel has an ambitious approach and the rooms are very comfortable with lots of attention to details in the form of towels, napkins, pillows etc. The hotel is situated a little bit off center of town but it´s manageable if you like a nice walk. The staff was very helpful and kind.

As a repeat visitor to the Kristiania I can only say that the staff and the owner family are very professional. when you arrive your personal wishes concerning bedding or pillow are already in place and the CRM-System must work very well. The restaurant knows how you would like your egg boiled in the morning and which tea you prefer. it is a first class experience that you will probalby not find on the arlberg in such a familiar and no-stress surrounding.
try the bar, in the evenings the cocktails are great and the piano player will do the rest....
try it.

1st time in Lech and we chose to stay at the Kristiania. I’d agree with the previous reviewer – we also couldn’t fault anything at the Kristiania. The service, food, drinks, and hotel was all outstanding. We particularly enjoyed finishing off a hard days skiing by relaxing on the on the sun terrace each afternoon with a good drink and a warm duvet! Despite being just outside of the centre of Lech, the regular free bus means getting to the slopes is easy. And if you miss it the hotel are more than happy to give you a lift down into town.

We’ll definitely be coming back!
