“Fawlty Towers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

I wasn't going to say anything, but the killing of a cockroach with my thong this morning was the last straw. This is the hotel we're staying at for 3 weeks. From the moment we arrived, we've had busted appliances, dirty floors, food scraps, unvacuumed carpets, pubic hairs in the bathroom/shower & docile staff that have to be instructed how to clean (twice) ... Even after changing rooms, I had to sweep the floor myself & complain again about the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of our room. I've also had staff + maintenance people come in to our room WITHOUT knocking (twice)! I feel like I'm at Fawlty Towers, except John Cleese is not here & this is NOT funny! DON'T EVER STAY HERE!!

They forgot to mention that the bar next door plays music until the early morning and the walls are so thin that you may as well just go down to the bar. IfmI was travelling with my kidsnI would have been mad. No air conditioning in the unit I stayed in. Basic basic basic. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We are very disappointed to read about your unsatisfactory experience. The issues you raised have been addressed with Hotel Cremorne. Hotel Cremorne are currently undergoing MAJOR renovations with these having to comply with Environmental Legislation to noise emissions. Under legislation, the issue of noise addressed by you in your review will no longer exist.
Regarding air conditioners, all our units have air conditioners so I am not sure about this. I would be happy to discuss with you personally
Best regards,

I was surprised by just how comfortable the "4 star" studio apartment was - having chosen it for the kitchenette facilities, I found myself with a very well-equipped mini-apartment (two hobs, an oven, dishwasher, a washing machine, laundry tub, clothes airer, couch, dining table and 2 chairs, TV, DVD player, AND a bed). My room was in the back of the hotel, so there was no street noise (someone else on my course was on the street side, and found it quite loud). The only things I think could be improved are (a) better pillows, as they were all overly soft, (b) my room's air conditioning unit was incredibly loud, so being here in the height of summer and winter would be irritating, and (c) each room has its own hot water cylinder, which is tiny (50 Litres, I think) - which makes it very challenging to get a warm shower that lasts long enough to get fully clean. The first day I ended up rinsing shampoo out of my hair while under a polar blast of water - not fun. They'd be better off having instant hot water - or at least forewarning people of the lack of hot water. But despite these issues, I'd definitely return if I had another course on in Neutral Bay/Cremorne area.

Arrived early after a long flight. Staff were really helpful in checking us in to a room before check in time so we could rest up. Also really helpful when advising on how to get into Sydney and where to pick up public transport.

The apartment was clean and although basic by hotel standards I found it really useful to have a washing machine and mini kitchen. Good value for money and only a 10 minute bus ride from Sydney (you get a ride over the harbour bridge). The best bit was the helpful staff and the Wooden Spoon bar/bistro across the road which did great drinks and food.

The only downside was the foody smell in the hall which was likely the result of another guest who liked 'aromatic' food.

We've revisited the Cremorne Park Regis twice more in the last six months and I still think it represents good value in an expensive city for tourists. In June we were blasted out of our room twice in two days by fire alarms - EVACUATE ! EVACUATE ! - once because someone had left a handbag on a hotplate and set off the smoke alarm, the next day was a drill ! The firemen told us that the smoke alarms are quite frequent because the design of the hotplate switches makes them easily activated - and the hotplate is immediately inside the door, so people drop their stuff there when they come in. Note to management - insert a switch in the electrical circuit to the stove top, so guests only cook things when they mean to ! The stove top and oven are great to have because there's a full supermarket downstairs so it's possible to prepare proper meals. We both enjoy cooking instead of eating in restaurants every night, but if you want to eat out there is a wide range of cuisines available in Cremorne and the neighbouring suburbs of Mosman and Neutral Bay. There is no gym or fitness centre but there is one across Military Road and five others within a two km radius. One thing to look for in the rooms is the position of the bed - which although queen size rather than king, still takes up most of the floorspace. In one room (309) the bed is up against a wall on one side, so the person on the inside has to clamber over his/her partner to get out - maybe more fun on a honeymoon than for old married couples. In 606, the bed could be accessed from either side although there was only space for one bedside table. Quality of mattresses and linens seems very good and we slept well, although there is traffic noise in the rooms that face onto Military Road. Probably the best rooms would be those on 7th floor looking across to the Harbour, although we haven't had one of those. The best things about the Park Regis in Cremorne are its access to all shops and services beneath the hotel, that you can cook a decent meal and do your own laundry, and that public transport is right outside. The lack of daily service for the room (available for an extra fee) is either good or bad depending on you - we like not being disturbed by housekeeping before we're awake and reception will supply replacement towels daily if you ask. The worst things are that Wi-Fi is outrageously expensive ($27.50 per day) so you should buy a USB dongle or mobile Hot Spot from Optus (50% cheaper than Telstra) and use that for connectivity: the next worst thing is the checkout time of 10.00am and that the hotel is rather inflexible in giving even an extra hour. Now that we've stayed a few times, we've become accustomed to the Cremorne Park Regis apartments and in fact prefer to stay there now, instead of a standard hotel, because of the in-room cooking facilities and the location. If you're looking for a full-service hotel with marble foyer, restaurant and doorman, this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Facing the Harbour on highest floor possible

our apt was clean warm bright & comfortable, with I might add a beautiful view of Sidney harbour! gorgeous. and I was well happy with it as our 1st booked accommodation turned out to be a backpackers `room`!!! in someone's house!! don't trust wimdu!
so it had a washing machine which was heaven, heating which was also heaven cos it was so cold!
even a nice ipod dock! bonus.
all in all I would rate it, only draw back was the area, quite boring actualy, the rough side o town I think! mosman down the road tho was really nice.
quite central to public transport and stuff tho

Room Tip: harbour facing, top floor

Stayed here two nights whilst my home nearby was being renovated. Last stayed here 36years ago when it was a relatively new hotel. Unfortunately the room sizes have remained the same and the current management seemed to have crammed the necessary furniture for a "studio apatrtment" into the smallest space possible.
On the positive side my "apartment' (room really) was very quiet, facing south towards the harbor (average view, harbor is some distance away) as opposed to facing north across Military Road (busy and at times noisy street). Cremorne is one of the better suburbs of Sydney and a short distance from town.
On the negative side there is really very limited service, minimum staff, reception closes down at night, room was not serviced at all during stay and my room was too small. My impression was that management cut costs to bare minimum. I expected more for the price, which is not cheap.

Room Tip: Choose an apartment on harbor side (not necessarily with a harbor view).

Studio rooms are currently being reconfigured and some of the larger bulkier furnishings are being replaced with smaller items. This reconfiguration is expected to be completed by end of August 2013. Apartments are not serviced daily as all units are apartment style, be it one bedroom or studio.
Although Reception closes in the evening, access is 24 hours a day and in emergencies there is an onsite manager available.
Rates for harbour side rooms are higher as you do pay to be on the quiet side of the building.
