The entirely waterfront dining space has spectacular river views with amazing sunset vistas by day and a warm, contemporary, intimate dining space by night. “Excellent food in serene atmosphere, attentive staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

A special occasion birthday. We decided on the "Wakeru" - the tasting menu, and a pleasant Scotchman's Hill Sauvignon Blanc to accompany.

Elegantly presented, each course arrived and offered quite varying tectures and flavours - preapred with Japanese cooking paired with local ingredients. (Noosa must be a Sushi chef's idea of heaven!!).

Impeccable service from the staff who were very knowledgeable about the menu and dishes - explaining each on arrival, and also the wine list (which is extensive and well structured).

Overall - an excellent experience.

“QLD at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

Wonderful experience dining at Noosa. May not be for everyone so do your homework . By QLD standards expensive. Four adults dinned and we enjoyed excellent service and delic. Japanese food. In perfect surroundings.

“Very Dissapointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

4 Adults and 5 Children looked forward to a birthday dinner at Wasabi and came away extremely dissapointed and basically "ripped off".After some confusion between the Waitress explaining what dishes would be suitable for all of us we settled on the "Wakeru" Menu which states for two people or more and consists of what most would call basic Japanese fare including Shashini,Sushi,Gyoza,Miso Soup,Tempura etc.To charge $89.00 per person plus an extra $13 for a Wagyu Beef dish is so over the top its not funny. The dishes were so small each person receives a couple of slices of Shashimi maybe 2 Sushi rolls, a couple of Gyoza etc etc so we were all so hungry and asked if we could order just a couple of extra dishes which the Waitress ordered the same $89 menu over again.Upon paying the bill(over $1000) we expressed our dissapointment only to be told in one breath "we do not cater for children" then in the next breath "we regulary have kids who spend well over $100 each on dinner"!!. Are you serious?.We have been coming to Noosa for 25 years and own a residence there so we always support all local Restaurants but Wasabi stop believing in all the hype surrounding your Restaurant and believing you are a 2 Hat when you are far from it with average dishes and a very average attitude as well.

We too were extremely disappointed. In all of my and your waitress's careers we have never seen behaviour like this.

After the waitress had explained to you the dishes on the menu, that were most suitable for children, despite her recommendations, you proceeded to order a 7 course degustation at $89 per person. You ordered for two of the children and expected it to feed all five of them. If you did not want “basic” or classic Japanese then perhaps you could have ordered a different degustation that is more adventurous or ordered from the a la carte menu. The pricing, which is printed on the menu to see when you order your meal, is based on the quality of our ingredients. Each dish is also listed on the menu you ordered and each person dining with Wakeru menu receives miso soup made from the fish bones from the sushi counter that day and real bonito flakes, five slices of sashimi (local tuna, local swordfish, wild Hervey Bay scallops, local kingfish and Tasmanian ocean trout), another sashimi entrée that on the day I believe was local cod with ginger and ponzu, 3 rolls (local tiger prawn, local spanner crab and local tuna), tempura of local prawn, coffin bay oyster, local fish and shishito pepper from our farm, 2 local pork, yuzu, bamboo shoot and shitake hand made dumplings and then either the teriyaki spatchcock or you can upgrade for the 500 day grain fed full blood wagyu rib eye, which also has the price on the menu which you chose.

You told the waitress it was not enough food for the children when the sashimi (2nd course) came out and said you need to order more (yes, 2 peoples sashimi is difficult to split between 5 children) so please bring another one. The only thing you had on your table was the wakeru degustation so the waitress brought another one. At any time during the delivery of the next 5 courses you could have said this was not what you ordered or wanted but you remained silent and continued to eat.

Upon receiving your bill you refused to pay for the food you had ordered, received, eaten and enjoyed. Even though the waitress offered to cancel the last course for the kids, as they were obviously getting full and more interested in playing in the car-park outside. During the meal there was no complaint about your service (your waitress had just spent the last 4 years of her career at Quay in Sydney) or the quality of food. I realise now that even though you received a $50 discount as a way of reasoning with you the only thing that would have placated you is if the children ate for free.

Yes, we do not promote ourselves as a restaurant designed for children, we do not have chicken nuggets and fries on our menu but children often dine with us and order from the menu and thoroughly enjoy their meal and their parents are happy to pay for quality food for their children. We have many clients whose children list us as their favourite restaurant and bring them for their birthday every year. It is not for us to say when you sit down that you can or cannot afford for your children to eat a 7 course degustation. Perhaps you should have taken the much more affordable option for the children of ordering from the a la carte menu as your waitress recommended. The price is on the menu when you order and I perhaps wrongly assume that if you bring a party of 10 for a special occasion dinner you might have looked to see the style of restaurant you were dining in. If you have been coming to Noosa for 25 years, and Wasabi is 10 years old, then I am surprised you did not know what sort of restaurant we are. Your partner compared the cost to what you could get for that money in a sushi train. We are not a sushi train.

As for the 2 hats, you will have to take that up with the people that gave them to us. Our pricing or service has not changed since we were given them - hats or no hats

“Brilliant Japanese Cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013 via mobile

The food was fresh, superbly presented and of top quality. The staff who served us were very polite and understanding of our special dietary requirements on this night and obliged in a professional and friendly manner. The chef was also wonderful to accommodate.
This is a gastro restaurant and so expect the prices and serving sizes to match, it may not be for everyone, but we love fine Japanese and this lived up to its reputation for food and service and in a very lovely ambiance too.
Will definitely recommend and be back.

“Great Evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Our evening at Wasabe lived up to all of the recommendations we had heard prior to booking. The food was delightful; quality ingredients beautifully presented. The service was excellent, and with a level of knowledge about the origins of food and wine which was second to none.

I saw another review which complained about the time taken to serve the tasting menu. Yes, it did cover the full evening, but it was a joy, not a chore. This is a great place to visit if you love your food and wine, but it does not come cheap. Treat yourselves !
