Description: Wasabi restaurant & bar, overhanging the scenic Noosa River, opposite the Noosa Recreation Reserve, is the brainchild of owner and Young Restaurateur of the Year Award recipient Danielle Gjestland. The entirely waterfront dining space has spectacular river views with amazing sunset vistas by day and a warm, contemporary, intimate dining space by night. Voted Queensland's #1 regional restaurant for the 2013 Good Food Guide, two chefs hats and listed in Gourmet Travellers top 100 restaurants , Wasabi's food has a contemporary sensibility that is still deep rooted in Japanese purity.

“Disappointing given the hype.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

Given the numerous awards this restaurant has won, we were expecting the best in Japanese cooking this side of Kyoto. However, none of the items we ordered were exceptional and most were just ok. The lowlight was a bone in the sashimi snapper, although a miso soup that was almost stone cold wasn't far behind.

Service was equally disappointing, with dishes given to the wrong person, extensive waits between items and many items not very hot (eg tempura). Maybe it was just an off night for the kitchen, but given the prices, that's no excuse.

“Japanese with Australian zing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

A modern Japanese restaurant that offers sublime combinations and beautifully cooked classical and fusion japanese dishes. Extensive menu and magnificent presentation. Though expensive the cost was worthwhile. A memorable experience.

“A bit pretentious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Too celebrity focused! My Japanese foodie son rated the food average compared to some of the Brisbane Restaurants. The portions arent only small they are microscopic!

“Japanese on a different level”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011

Had a delightful dinner with my wife tonight. It has a stylish sophistication with beautiful gold leaf wall paintings in the traditional tatami room. We ordered the 5 course omakasee which included seared kingfish sashimi, a soy cured tuna, zuchini blossom stuffed with scallop and trout, pork belly with a clever rice pickled fig and finished with wagyu served with fresh wasabi that we grated ourselves. Great touch! Waitress explained the dishes with a professional friendliness. This is not your regular japanese restaurant and most likely will out do your favorite. Yoshi is the only one in sydney I think that tops it.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

Had previously been to wasabi at sunshine beach and was very impressed with food and service.

This time around at noosaville, sashimi was very average, and service was sloppy - forgot our order of oysters to begin with and was very slow with the wine orders.
Have to say not worth the $300 + bill. If you do go get the degustation they don't seem to cope with other requests too well.
