“Forest Lodge Resort, A Scenic Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

Stayed one night at the 2 bedroom apartment. Easy to locate as the entrance is just next to the highway. No problem with the highway noise as it about 50m into the driveway and is surrounded by beautiful trees. Would be good if the driveway is cemented as it is quite muddy during wet weather. Car can be parked in the sheltered patio just next to the door which made it very easy for us to move the luggages in wet weather. The soft spoken lady owner is very helpful and made sure I know how to turn on the heater as it was quite cold. One spacious room with one King size bed and another room with one queen size bed and one single bed were more than sufficient for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. All the beds come with heater. An excellent feature to have during winter. The single bed took out space but would be ideal for a family of 5. No facilities for laundry and the kitchen seems too small but is ok as we only stayed for one night.

The breakfast is prepared only when you arrive, which make it nicely warm and fresh, worth the wait but not many people when we were there though. And you wont mind waiting as the lounge is surrounded by scenic karri trees with beautiful birds coming for morning feeds. Children can play on the wooden horses in the lounge. Good choice among the few choices in a small own.

I like a place to have character if at all possible, as it adds to the ambience and helps me remember my holiday. Forest Lodge Resort did not disappoint. It was beautifully set among karri forests, with lots of birdlife and serenity. Other than the songs of the birds (which surely nobody could complain about), this was lovely, serene and quiet and well situated only 2 kms out of Pemberton, if that. The walk into town can be taken along part of the lovely Bibbulmun Track. We stayed in what I would call a unit, though I'm not sure what it was classified as. I was part of a small group and sharing with another female but our unit had 2 bedrooms, both comfy and spacious, so that was a bonus to have a bedroom each, as well as a toilet that was separate from the bathroom, and a small kitchen and lovely loungeroom. I had a wry smile at one comment among these reviews, that the stove was "drab." I cannot help but sarcasticaly retort "Oh, a drab stove! That would certainly spoil one's holiday!" Crikey, the things that some people complain about! As others have noted, the brekky was fantastic, including press-button pancakes. Never have pancakes been so easy! But there was lots more - hot food, lovely fresh fruit salad, home-made jams, yummy cooked berries to go on the pancakes, good selection of cereal, etc, etc. This would all be grand under any circumstances, but viewing the birds on the balcony and the lovely outdoor surroundings through the window while you eat really gave us a good start to the day. The brekky-room furnishings (whuich somebody described as 'dated') are actually old-style lovely: that beautiful furniture made in the days when craftspeople and woodworkers took care and pride in their work. It was a joy to behold. Far from being "dated", it is actually timeless and grand. Staff were helpful and I have no qualms recommending this resort. The one thing I would like to see changed eventually is to move away from those vertical blinds, which break easily and let a lot of the heat out, to thick fabric curtains (which are much more energy efficient and hopefully would also cut down the resort's power bills). But overall, a wonderful stay.

I was very disappointed in our rooms here - probably the worst in our whole 3 month trip around Australia. We stayed in a 2 bedroomed chalet. From the carport, you enter via the main door into a very large lounge with a stove (which we needed) and a small kitchenette. I wouldn't have described the kitchen as fully fitted as it just had a microwave, which was very dirty inside, and an old fashioned hob. I couldn't see an oven anywhere and I don't think the microwave doubled up as one. We had been planning on cooking for ourselves that night, but having looked at the state of the kitchen, we decided to eat out. The lounge was dark and cheaply furnished and just not conducive to relaxing.

The bedrooms were large but again very dated, although, I have to be fair and say that the bed was one of the most comfortable I slept in during our 3 month holiday. The bathroom was basic and functional.

We didn't have good weather the night we stayed there, so there were no kangaroos on the lawn. Also, the free wi-fi didn't work - apparently, due to the wind.

We didn't eat breakfast here, so can't comment on it.

I wouldn't ever choose to stay here again.

We opted to stay in a chalet, and were a little disappointed as they looked more like adjoined motel units. They were very spacious, with queen beds in each bedroom, but the curtains were broken and the carpet was old. They didn't really have they warm, cozy feel that a lot of chalets do. The beds were comfortable though and the place was nice enough. I doubt I would choose to stay there again.

2 km out of town quiet off the main road. Unit 11 has patio in front and bush view in back...lovely. Full kitchen, free wi-fi in units, good reading lights, reverse cycle a/c. Clean, lovely main house and grounds with pond and plenty of parrots that come to be fed. Lovely breakfast with an automatic pancake maker...push a button and out comes the pancakes. We highly recommend this hotel

The lodge was an excellent base to discover the local area. Peaceful surroundings in a bush setting. Lodge style accommodation spread guests out and was conducive to privacy. Well stocked book, DVD and games libraries to use during inclement weather (which we did not have) or during down time. Amenable, welcoming hosts enhanced an already relaxing visit. A fresh, varied and nutritious breakfast was served overlooking the gazebo on the dam or in the tastefully appointed dining room. Add an extra day to your booking to simply enjoy the ambiance of Forest Lodge.
