“Silver Sands Mandurah”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We have stayed several times here. The apartment has always been clean & indeed are spacious. The kitchen is fully equipped minus the oven. I questioned the oven & was told that it was either a dishwasher or an oven, just not enough space for both. The pool areas are lovely & everything is kept clean.

I do agree that the management come down hard on kids who just want to have fun. It is a family resort so let the families enjoy themselves rather than have parents on tenter hooks all the time. Maybe they will loosen up these summer holidays

Silver Sands resort is only an hour along the highway, south of Perth and is situated in walking distance of the Silver Sands beach, the Dolphin Quay and across the road from a shopping centre. There is a pub next door. Their indoor and outdoor pools are well maintained as are the spas and sauna. Each unit has a washing machine, dryer, clothes airer, iron and ironing board. It was cold when we stayed there, so the split system heater/cooler came in handy. They will give you extra plates etc if you have visitors over for a bbq [2 areas] There is also a games room for older kids, a play ground for the little ones, mini golf and a small lounge for adults. Newspapers can be bought at the reception desk daily where there are all sorts of brochures.

Room Tip: All units are self contained.

We had a great stay at the resort. The apartment was clean and we found the beds to be very comfortable. Everything we needed for the week was there. We found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful and pool area very well maintained. The resort is very secure and it is reassuring to know that unless you are a guest, people can't get access to the area. We would certainly visit this resort again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the oppositie side to the tavern are a lot quieter.

There is an abundance of good accommodation in Mandurah so DO NOT select this one.

I believe Silver Sands is a timeshare resort and from what I was told the levies considerable and I would recommend any Silver Sands owners reading this review ask questions as to how their levies are being spent, because is certainly is not on the ongoing maintenance of the accommodation.

We were looking forward to a pleasant stay with our family including 2 young grandsons. The biggest problem with this resort is the Manager, perhaps in a former position he was a prison supervisor and has carried his attitude on to this position. He and his wife scowl, are abrupt and rude. Together with the resort being equipped with an overkill of surveillance cameras, do’s and don’t signs, there is a large number of staff, maintenance men, cleaners, gardeners all keeping a close eye on the “inmates” every move, particularly the young children, their attitude was so bad that I was on tenterhooks the entire stay.

As other reviewers have written there is a charge for everything. Parking a second car, pool towels, rubbish, balls, DVD’s and the internet, which is very slow, next to the reception desk where they can “keep an eye on you” and the constant interaction between the staff coming and going has no consideration for the guest attempting to concentrate.

The cleaning and maintenance in the units is appalling, the resort would be around 25 years old and are the original fittings from the time of being built. The tiled floors are chipped, door handles falling off or broken and curtains broken from the tracks. The heater/air conditioner is old and noisy, the dishwasher is old and noisy and the runners on the racks are broken. The washing machine and dryer are old but do work.

The kitchen equipment is very sparse, a few cooking utensils, a mismatch of crockery, cutlery and glasses, all were very greasy & grimy and we had to wash everything before we could use them. The stovetop fry pan was old and dirty with the Teflon coating badly scratched. There is an electric cook top, NO oven, a very old microwave, kitchen sink and cupboards and an old fridge cramping the space between the kitchen and the out dated dining table & chairs setting. There is a TV on an island bench between the eating area and the living area with the electrical and antenna cords hanging untidily into the eating area.

The lounge suite has a mismatch of arm and head coverings from a previous life and the sofa bed that is for 2 persons to sleep on (if 6 are staying in the unit) is old, has broken springs and a dirty thin mattress. The second bedroom has a very large vacuum cleaner taking up the entire wardrobe floor space and half way up the wardrobe hanging area. When I asked if it could be removed into another unit I was informed that all units had a vacuum cleaner and I "would need it to vacuum the floors before I left".

The beds have a plastic/vinyl mattress top and a thin mattress protector with the corner elastic straps broken and together with the acrylic blanket was like sleeping in a hot box. Linen for 6 was supplied in our 2 bedroom unit that sleeps 6. There is no daily clean or linen change, you need to wash & dry it yourself. There is an old discoloured plastic table and chairs on the small balcony, the limestone flooring is covered in mould and there is an old thin smelly door mat, together with a mop, bucket and other cleaning equipment also there for “you to use to clean before you leave”. The reception hours a very limited for a resort with such a large number of staff. The gardens, BBQ area and indoor and outdoor pool are clean and well maintained.

There is a pub next door and unfortunately is next to the children’s playground. The pub attracts an undesirable clientele who bring their children on weekends and these children hang over the fence and use very undesirable language with the children from the resort playing in the playground.

With a change of management and a huge amount of money being spent on the interior of the units this could be a nice resort, it is well located in Mandurah and walking distance from the beach.

Was a bit hesitant after reading some other reviews but love it here. The apartments are a great size, could actually live in them and so well equipped, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, micro, full fridge, cooktop etc etc. 3 pools, 2 outside, 1 inside, lovely garden area. Tavern next door, through secure gate for meals and a 2 min walk across the road for IGA and at least 5 takeaways plus very cheap chemist. Looking forward to next trip in December. Front office staff very accommodating and had prob with dripping tap and plumber came at 5pm on Friday avo of long weekend, can't ask for more than that.

Room Tip: Try to get on east side as ones that back onto tavern or road could be noisy. We have upstairs with...

We stayed for two nights mid week and can't fault the place. It was spotless, friendly service and great facilities. I don't think the rules were anything out of the ordinary and I personally don't want unsupervised kids running amok or food in the pools etc. Ask about hot water problem and you will be given advice on how to avoid the temperature problem-this could probably be offered up before you discover it for yourself. Our heater wasn't great so not sure what it would be like in winter.

Room Tip: next to reception so you only have one joining room

My parents have had timeshare at Silver sands since i was born - now being 26, I look forward to going every year, even if i can only get their for one night.

I have also with my partner and a bunch of friends got accomodation for a weekend stay, where we all could cook up a bbq and have some drinks in the sun.

Self contained 1 & 2 Bedroom unit's - airconditioned, kitchen, dining area, laundry equipment - what more could you want? Cook up your own food, or accross the road are several choices plus a grocery store.
Not to mention a half court and full court tennis court, squash court, kids games room and adults game room, indoor swimming pool with spa, sauna, and great outdoor pool with 3 spa's. Being self contained you dont get the normal hotel treatment where rooms are cleaned every day but pretty sure if you needed something they would help.

I have watched this place go through renovations in the room's, through to securing the parking lots, putting in boat bays, installing video camera's and establishing the mini golf, and many more things. From the outside as people say - you rock up and start thinking what have you booked? On the inside - a little hidden resort for all ages.

Being a timeshare resort i have also seen management come and go, some have been great others not so good. On the plus side, less then 10 minute drive to Mandurah foreshore, or for those wanting a nice walk, about 30 minutes. A 5 minute stroll to the beach.

Around Xmas time if your bedrooms are back onto the Pub which is next door, you can expect it to be a lot more busier with noise, than a normal Friday-Saturday typical pub night with all the Xmas Functions the pub does. We have had to make a noise complaint before, and more recently got told to not be drinking where we were, by the bbq area, we had been there since lunch time, so by 6pm don't know why we just got told (obviously office people were going home) Other than that cant fault the resort on anything. Activities are offered, however they have been downsizing over time (Organsing a canal trip, A refinery tour, Bus taking you to the shopping mall etc etc)
