“A resort or a detention centre?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

This place could be really good - the 2 bed apartments are spotless, large and well fitted out and the facilities are also very good. But first appearances can be deceptive and ours were. Basically, the resort staff need to understand that people go there to have fun. There are so many rules that you spend most of your time making sure you're not contravening them - don't hang towels over the balcony, don't jump in the pool, don't put your head under water in the spa, don't enter the lounge room unless you're over 18, dont leave rubbish in your bin when you leave or you'll be charged $30, don't check out late or it could cost you $500. The apartments are also very noisy as there are busy roads all around, there is a pub next door and you can easily hear noise between apartments. Listening to someone next door use the toilet while lying in bed at night isn't pleasant. I was really disappointed as I think the resort could be great for families but the staff make it clear that children are to be seen and not heard. Even the games room (which by the way is full of game machines you have to pay for) has rules about using the games and only having one game when others are waiting, not eating in the room, not making too much noise....There are so many apartments in Mandurah that are newer and nicer and better located that I would stay elsewhere and leave the time sharers to their rules and regulations.

the resort is adequate if you are just using it as a "place to sleep".
if you wish to go for a swim they will charge you $2 to hire a towel,if you wish to play tennis at night be prepared to pay to have the lights turned on, bring your own balls otherwise be prepared to buy them at $2.50 each.if you have a second car again be prepared to pay $15 a night to park it, there is no parking outside the resort that you can use so it is your only option.the carpark gates are locked at around 8pm you have an access key to open them, just hope its not raining.
signs tells you games room closes at 9.30 but you will find the not so friendly security guard will be in at 8pm to tell you to leave.
office staff are no very helpful, not very child friendly.
if you are planning a to lay in bed till 9am think again, the garden/cleaning staff will be rolling hand trolleys past your door over pavers and using garden blowers why you are trying to sleep.
the beds only have on blanket on them so i hope you dont feel the cold, otherwise you will be sleeping with the heater on.
im sure with a few tweaks from management this could become a great place to stay, sadly for them i would not stay here again or reccomend it to anyone else.

This place used to be so much better back in the day. Now there is so many rules and hidden extra costs. For example if you go there with 2 cars you have to pay $15 a night to park the second car if not there is pretty much no were else to park, this was not the case a few years ago. Also if you want to play tennis at night they charge you money just to turn the lights on??? what the hell!! they should put the lights on a timer that turns out at a set time. Another thing is the staff are not as friendly as they used to be especially the security guard who always has a frown on his face instead of a smile. The facilities are good but they close down to early. If you are a teenager or a bit older you are limited to sit in your room after 9:30pm which is ridiculous.....

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2009

We stayed at the Silver Sands Timeshare Resort for a week in November. We were in unit 16 at the resort. It was an upstairs unit (the resort was compact & only 2 levels), so we tried to only make one "BIG" trip from the car w/our luggage, etc. The unit had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, full kitchen (with dishwasher & eat-in area), and a living area with cable TV. There were 4 of us total staying there and we had plenty of room to spread out.

We took advantage of the computer/internet at the resort. Internet was $8.80 for an hour & it was sometime difficult to get on the 1 machine they had, but not impossible!

Mandurah was a beautiful, up & coming resort town. Very pretty & quiet beaches. The weather was "fine" (they say that alot about the weather - "fine") and in the mid to upper 20s (US translation = 70s) with blue sky.

There was an IGA across the street from the condo that we made good use of. It's even open on Sundays!

We had a cozy deck right outside our front door. There was a table with 4 chairs. The resort also offers the use of grills (which are different than grills in the US). We grilled one night & had dinner on the deck.

There is only 1 parking spot allowed per room. This is totally understandable - but if you need an extra spot just ask. They'll charge you around $15/night, but where else are you going to park if you've got two cars?

We drove to a Mandurah beach to walk around. It's very pretty!

One thing that we found a bit strange was how long it took the washer to finish a cycle. It seemed like it was HOURS before it was done. Maybe that's how most laundry machines are in WA, but it was a surprise to us. I'm glad we didn't wait until the last minute to do a load, because we only got 2 done in 1 day.

Mandruah is a wonderful area. It's an easy drive to get to many tourist-y things. We spent a day in the Margaret River wine country, as well as a day up in Perth, and one in Augusta.

Silver Sands is a small resort, with 4 spas, indoor/ outdoor pools.
We found it extremely relaxed .2 minute walk to the beach and the weather in May was sensational. Tavern next door with $8.00 pub meals( HUge).Shops accross the road.Very handy.Great for young kids, mini golf, tennis. The 2 bedroom units are very spacious
