“Great stay!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2012

Stayed for our 2nd anniversary as well as the 1st one and the actual wedding weekend. The most recent stay was very enjoyable, did not feel like just another guest, we felt special no matter where we were whether hiring bikes, dinner or checking in. Staff always seemed very keen to help no matter what it was.

Stayed here for 1 night in a Studio Spa room whilst attending a wedding. Room was clean, adequate, bed comfortable. Average type of hotel, not very modern but pleasant enough. The only problem was that the kettle didnt work. We did find the manner of the girl at receptionist very unaccommodating, we arrived early at 11.45am and wastold that the room wasnt ready and to come back at 2.30pm. Not very good - should have rather said that the room wasnt ready but please feel free to grab some lunch at the restaurant. Anyway we left and had lunch elsewhere. Word of mouth is that the food is not very good at this resort, so just a well. For a short, clean, average stay Abbey Beach is fine.

Dear Guest, thanks so much for your comments. I am sorry the Kettle did not work, did you report it to reception / housekeeping, as it could have been easily replaced? I am sory to the staff member on reception was not more accommodating, I will address this with the Front Office Manager to avoid this sort of thing in the future . Stayed here on Friday/Saturday night for a wedding. The package included a late check out of 5pm which was very handy and unusual for this type of facility. Made check out day feel more relaxed.

We had a 1 bedroom apartment with a balcony facing the outside. The apartment was roomy enough for two adults and our little one who was in a porta cot. Huge bathroom with spa which we didn't use. Kitchen decked out with everything you need and lounge included stereo and DVD player. Negatives for the room included being a little dated and the beds were not comfortable and the pillows flat. The rooms are a bit dated and that is the overall feel of the hotel.

The resort grounds were nicely manicured and spacious with three pools including a large outdoor children's pool, a small outdoor adults pool and a large indoor heated pool with a separate spa. The choice of pools was excellent and the weather meant we used the indoor pool a couple of times. Pool areas are all fenced but a large duck pond with steep hills sloping into it are of a little concern with little ones. The gym facilities are basic and a squash court was available.

We used the bar area on the Friday night and the bar staff handled a large group really well.
Staff did seem to be friendly and the house cleaning staff were polite, thorough and efficient. The cafe food was basic and I did not eat at the restaurant so can't comment.

The beach area out the front was excellent and appeared good fro children wading. Path out the front which is good for a walk in either direction.

I would have given this resort three and half stars if it was an option.

Nearby we went to the Eagle Bay brewery on the first day and ended up back between the wedding a reception. Absolutely awesome place with friendly staff and excellent service. Includes a giant sandpit with lots of communal toys. Food was tasty and not overpriced compared to everything else in WA. The winery across the road, WISE, was beautiful and had fantastic views and tasty bubbles. Also recommend the Bootleg Brewery for it's large outdoor area, kids playground and tasty beers.

Room Tip: If you can afford get one overlooking the center of the resort otherwise all you see is the car park...

Dear Guest, thanks for your comments. I am glad to hear the staff were friendly and welcoming, I will certainly pass this onto them. Great to hear you made use of all the Resort facilities. I am sorry to hear your comments regarding the beds and pillows, housekeeping will look into this this issue. Your thoughts on the rooms puzzle me. Our website and brochures have images of the Resort and these are a true reflection of the rooms, we are not ‘modern’ in the sense of bright colours, we would see ourselves as more classical & regal, in appearance.Comments such as yours contain valuable information and insights for future guests and help us strive to continue improving our customer service. We look forward to welcoming all the family back again sometime to Abbey Beach Resort in the future. We were all very impressed with our three bedroom and three bathroom accommodation. My 17 year old daughter made particular mention of the fact that she found the lady in the cafe very kind and welcoming and that the cleaning staff were just lovely. They accommodated our every request. We made use of and really enjoyed all the facilities, including tennis, the pools, sauna, BBQ and cafe. The path along the beach is excellent and access to the beach so easy. It was perfect for a family holiday.

We stayed at this hotel on the weekend of the Leuwin Concert. The room that we stayed in was a 2 bedroom apartment and very spacious. It was however extremely dated being painted pale apricot in colour with 1980's styled furniture which while old was clean and well maintained. There is only an airconditioner in the main living area so that on our first night it was very hot in the bedroom areas. We had to leave the airconditioner running all Saturday when we were out to cool the place down which was a dreadful waste of energy. On the Saturday morning we had breakfast in the dinig room and what a huge disappointment- tinned two fruits, cold tea from one of those pump top urns, a couple of sugary cereal options, a conglomerate put forward as birscher museli and the scambled eggs appeared very bland and may have been made from a dried egg powder as they tasted like nothing. The other bain mariefood was the typical fare of grilled mushrooms, fried bacon and half baked tomatoes. There was no chef cooking fresh omlettes as I would have expected at the price they charged and no service of any description except a very bored looking girl standing polishing glasses who did not even acknowledge us when we walked into the area. The cost of this was $35 per head - absolute highway robbery and very dissapointing for an area that puts it self forward as a food capital. Much better to go to any local cafe where the food and service could only be far superior. We did try Bunkers Beach later in the day and it was terrific. The whole hotel in my view needs a major refurbishment to bring it up to date and a breakfast that reflect the area and it's produce. I didn't even know that tinned two fruits were still made!

Dear Metallious, I am disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. I am not sure which apartment you stayed in but none of our apartments are painted in an apricot colour? Currently many units are painted a cream colour but the units are about to undergo painting and these will change to a different colour and tone. We have replaced carpets and lounge furniture and our about to complete with our recent refurbishment of kitchens, which is still underway. With the kitchens complete we will then do a couple of more things and the current refurbishment will be complete, although refurbishment is an ongoing process. The air conditioning unit in the living area, is large enough for the entire apartment, according to the air conditioning experts, so I wonder if there was something wrong with the air conditioner itself? In regards to your breakfast comments, I am disappointed you missed the seasonal fresh fruit platters, the freshly baked, muffins, croissants and pastries? The muesli is made fresh daily and the scrambled egss are made with raeal eggs and cream. Fresh omelettes are available on the al a carte menu if you required one, it would not have been a problem. I assume given the layout of the buffet you were able to look before you bought, so it is unclear why you chose the buffet and not a la carte if the choices, variety and price were not to your liking. We served over 180 buffet breakfasts that morning, and Sunday morning which is large given the café is a 72 seater restaurant with some additional seating outside on the terrace. Comments such as yours contain valuable information and insights for future guests and help us strive to continue improving our customer service. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Abbey Beach Resort in the future. You can stay in touch with us for great deals and specials on our website, via facebook, twitter or Foursquare.

Myself and my boyfriend recently travelled to the Abbey Beach resort.. i think the email I sent to management after our stay explains the dissapointment of our stay:

''ATTN: General Manager
Myself and my partner stayed in the Abbey Beach Resort on Saturday night. We booked into room 27S and were pleasantly surprised by the room and view. We heard that the hotel was quite full so we decided to treat ourselves and made a reservation for the Brasserie restaurant for later that night.
We ordered a starter to share and two mains as well as planning to have dessert.
We started with ‘A taste of the Orient’. Overall the dish was mediocre. The tempura prawns and duck spring rolls were as good as it got. The squid stuffed with mince was chewy, the beef skewer looked like it had been sitting there a week and the rice paper rolls were completely tasteless and almost inedible (when we told the waitress this she said that the dipping sauce was there to provide the taste).
Our mains arrived 45 mins later. My boyfriend ordered the duck and myself the veal. The duck main course would not have fed a child. A tiny serve of duck breast with 2 rings of sweet potato and 5 mangetout hardly classified as a meal let alone warranted charging $42!! We immediately asked for potatoes/vege or anything that would mean that he wouldn’t walk out of the meal hungry.. however as both our meals had been put on the table we did specify that if it couldn’t come out within the next 4-5 mins then not to worry about it. Although we ate the meal slow, the half cooked fries came out by the time my boyfriend had finished the meal so we turned them away. My veal was absolutely dry with no taste at all. Apparently the green in the middle of the veal was supposed to be spinach and pine nuts but it was tasteless. To be charged $46.60 for a meal this bad is an insult. Needless to say we finished off our bottle of wine and decided against having dessert.
We went to the counter to pay and complain and the waitress told us that she would pass on our comments. At no point during or after our meal were we asked if the food was ok or was there anything else that we would like. We paid for the meal in full which came to $145.30 and then went to the reception desk to ask to speak to a manager as we didn’t get any satisfaction from our complaint to the waitress.
The manager on duty, sympathised with our complaint and told us that she would put a comment against our room number and that she would speak with the manager and f&b manager and would give us feedback when we checked out in the morning.
Apparently we weren’t the only people disappointed with the meal that night as another couple who had heard us complain called us over as we were walking back to our apartment to tell us that they too had a very poor meal.
We checked out the next day and had to ask whether there was any feedback from our complaint. The girl on reception went to ask the manager on duty and came back to tell us we would receive a phone call later that afternoon once the manager was able to speak to the f&b manager.
We did not receive a phone call and as yet have not received a phonecall. We are very dissapointed with the service we received and this has added to the already sour taste in our mouths.
If you would like to call me regarding this email you may contact me on 04xxxxx or my boyfriend 04xxxxxxx.
We intend to post our experience on tripadvisor as well as spreading our experience to our friends.
I look forward to your response,
Regards
xxx and xxx ''

We still have not received a response from the hotel which is very dissapointing, if our complaint was dealt with effectively on the night (i.e. a refund on the food or a voucher for a future stay) we wouldn't have minded so much but the after service was as poor as the food and I definitely would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Dear Guest, I am disappointed in your comments. I responded to your email on the morning of the 15th February. I was unable to respond until I had information from the Food Service Manager regarding your comments and she was on RDO’s until yesterday. Once the information was gathered I responded personally. I do not intend to ‘copy and paste’ my response to you, but would like to comment that the Food Service Manager ( whom you spoke to on the night) feels she dealt with your comments satisfactorily, all be it not to your satisfaction, considering you left no food behind on any of the plates from which you ate.

We travelled to the Abbey Beach from Joondalup for a short break and were very pleased with the hotel. Check in was ok. We were given a room away from the pool area, even though we had requested one overlooking the pool. This was a bit dissapointing but it didnt spoil the weekend. The room was great with everything we needed and a great size. The whirlpool tub was lovely for relaxing in. The hotel seemed very quiet considering the time of year we were staying and we had the pool areas to ourselves most of the time. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the beach is only a short walk through them.
