“A terrific B & B!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in this little B & B over a weekend. It was really lovely. The service man who was running the place was very attentive and helpful.
The hotel had lots of character with lots of painting on the walls and cabinets full of fab old cameras.
The room was really quirky. There were lots of paintings which wrote interesting, there was a heater and electric blankets which were awesome for the cold and wet day & evening!
Breakfast the next morning was lovely too :)

I arrived a bit earlier than the normal checking in time, but was met by Sarin, a lovely man who showed me to my room and spent time explaining the facilities on offer. I had one of the rooms that shared a bathroom, but found this to not be any inconvenience. A most enjoyable breakfast was had each morning and I was also offered (and accepted) a toasted sandwich in the evening. The location of the guest house was ideally located in the heart of the city and the hospitality shown to everyone by Sarin make this my first choice of places to stay when in Albany.

Room Tip: For Friday and Saturday nights, try to get a room back from the main road.

This is the first time I am leaving a review on an accommodation. Don't get me wrong. We go for long and short trips every year, sometimes a few times a year. But I was really touched by the sincerity and warmth of the owners. If I do not write them a review, I will be doing them injustice.

There is nothing fake about their description... "You will receive a very warm welcome at the Albany Foreshore Guest House." In fact, it was understated. We received warmth from the owners from the very moment we stepped in, until the time we left. We were there for 2 nights.

When we arrived, Kathy showed us the place and explained its history to us. After we settled in and was ready to venture Albany, she gave us a map and showed us places of interests which we can visit. When we asked her where the visitor centre was, she even personally brought us out across the footbridge, when we only expected her to point us to it.

The next day, after a superb breakfast and before we ventured out, Kathy asked if we needed packed lunch. We gladfully accepted her offer. We were extremely grateful to her after that, as we hardly saw any places to stop for lunch along the way.

On our final day there, Kathy had to fetch someone from the Albany airport and so, she bidded us farewell during our sumptous breakfast. We had a short chat before she left and must have mentioned that we were travelling to Perth airport that day to catch our flight home. Before we left the breakfast table, her helper asked if we would like to have packed lunch. We gratefully accepted his offer as we heard that it was all plains along Albany Highway.

There were other little things which warmed our hearts during our stay, but it would be extremely lengthy to go into details for all. Many thanks to Kathy and Philip, as well as their 2 helpers, Sarin and Sovannarith.

We (my husband, 5 years old son and myself) stayed in the ensuite. It was comfortable, spacious, clean and had individual heaters under our beds. Everything we needed was there. Within walking distance to eating places and visitor centre. There is also an IGA supermarket across the road. Car park was secured behind locked gates. We would definitely stay at AFGH again if we visit Albany. In fact, we had already recommended it to some of our relatives and friends!

Dont really write reviews but this was such an aweseome experience i had to share and say thanks to kathy, her husband, Soron and the team. First time traveling to Albany with my fiance. The hotel took us back in time. nicely renovated, with amazing paintings everywhere. Kathy and her team were so welcoming that i almost felt like family coming to visit! she even wakled us out and showed us around. Amazing personal Service.
Other little things like free port upstairs, free movies were offered. Hotel was very close to everything and we had a good view of the beach. Really Really Loved the stay. Thankyou so much for the hospitality...will be telling everyone about you guys! and will def stay with you again if we come down to that part of the world! Highly reccomended.

Room Tip: we chose room 4. beach views.... nicely set with open fireplace.

We checked in during daytime but when we were introduced to the room, we were a bit taken aback by how dated the decor was. It also felt like our room was an ancient art gallery with many paintings hung up on all the walls, some portraits and some landscape paintings. Personally i don't like portraits because it seems like somebody is staring at you when you sleep haha. No kitchen facilities but there is a small pantry to make tea which is still nice. The beds were ok but we couldnt sleep much as the windows rattled throughout the night due to the sea wind. Guess its because the building is quite old. The bathroom for the ensuite was quite a challenge as it was quite small. However they carry a great selection of DVDs and have free wifi. The cooked breakfast was also nice. The location is great also, as we have a view of the sea from our windows. the host was friendly and nice but the spookiness factor was too much for us

The paintings in the Albany Foreshore Guest House are oil reproductions of some of the world's greatest art, all commissioned and imported. Some guests, so delighted by the paintings, have influenced friends to book into our Guest House to see these paintings. Atrt critics from Melbourne have stayed in our Guest House for this reason.

This is without a doubt, one of the best experiences that I have has by just staying somewhere. Kathy was so helpful and went well out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. The building has all the charm of its 19th century heritage and the location is perfect. Right on the foreshore and next to an awesome pub. If I come back to Albany, I will definitely stay here again.

Seriously, it was a such a great experience staying here. Great location, great price, great accommodation and unbelievable service! Kathy and Phil were superb hosts and made extra effort to make us feel welcomed. The guest house has all of the old world charm of early Albany and is right on the foreshore and the town centre is only a stroll away, plus there is parking at the rear which was very convenient. The rooms were large, clean and quiet. Two of the rooms have private bathrooms and the other two share a bathroom.

On the down side, there are a few things that need to be fixed up, but very minor (leaking shower, no hand towel in the bathroom). The WiFi doesn't quite extend to the rooms upstairs because the walls are so thick. If you stay on a Friday or Saturday night, you might hear the late night chatter of the nearby White Star Hotel patrons as they walk past, but apart from this the guest house was very quiet. My point is, these are the only things I could find slightly wrong to what was an excellent experience!

The attention to detail and the added features such as the free DVDs, a bowl of sweets in each room, toasted sandwiches, tea and coffee revealed Kathy and Phil to be hosts that actually cared about their customers. I've stayed in modern B&Bs where everything is new and in pristine condition and the owners were completely business-like... I can't actually name any of those places from memory, but this place I won't forget. Simply put, if we return to Albany, we won't need to search for a place to stay anymore... this is it!

It was great to meet you,Simon. Thanks for the tips. We are always looking for ways to improve our service. We'll fix that leaking shower, and we have already put hand towels in the bathrooms. It would be lovely to see you again!
