“Great value, helpful and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2011

Stayed here one night for businees in the town, found the hotel staff helpful, the hotel rooms in good repair, clean and the bed comfortable. The whole establishement is in the town, not out on the highway so getting to things around town like the entertaiment centre, shops and offices is an easy walk. I will stay here next time I'm in town

I have stayed at this motel (both as the Fredrickstown and as the Albany Best Western) six to eight times a year for about five years. The 70s decor of the rooms has recently seen basic renovations (the old bathrooms tiles painted, new bed spreads, new TVs) to good effect and but it's the location in downtown Albany walking distance from the best restaurants and cafes that is the main reason i have stayed here and the only real stand out feature of this motel.
However the basic pricing is over the top, especially considering they slap travellers booking through an agent with a inexplicable +$40 (yes forty dolllar) premium on the room rates and the beautifully renovated Dog Rock Motel is around the corner. If you're looking for a view the only rooms with views of anything but a pub carpark are the handful $190 dollar ones upstairs.
Don't order the continental breakfast ($12.90)- the bread for toast is not fresh (cold from the fridge), the percolated coffee is terrible and there are only three kellogg variety flakes and weetbix and that commecial immation yoghurt stuff: no proper muesli if that's your thing, no soy milk available if you can't tolerate dairy but some fresh fruit is available. I'd recommend you walk the 50m around the corner to Dylans and get a fresh bowl of gourmet muesli and a excellent coffee and you'd still have change from $12.90 or a cheaper and vastly better cooked breakfast with a lovely environment and a beautiful outlook on Stirling Terrace.
Some of the staff are great but be careful about giving any customer feedback - some (including one of the owners) will argue with you and be dismissive if you have any concerns. The customer service culture is poor and your experience will depend entirely on who you happen to get at reception.
I've given up being overcharged and I'm going to be trying out the Dog Rock Motel and some of the gorgeous B&Bs in the area on my subsequent trips.

I have just returned from Albany and enjoyed our stay in the self contained two bedroom apartments. From the beginning the contact was very obliging and service was excellent. The units are across the road from the main building , which I see as an advantage as we were travelling with my two small grandchildren. there was space for them to move around and the unit contained all we could possible need for a short term stay. The views from Unit 1 are superb and the unit is spotless. It is furnished in a family friendly way and you can relax and enjoy...once you place the ornamental cactus on the kitchen table out of the reach of little hands. All in all a lovely experience in a beautiful part of the world. Thanks too to all of the helpful staff.

This facility is very close to the busterminal and we easily managed to cope with our own luggage in the shor walk to the motel.
The service we received was very friendly and helpful both at reception and in the breakfast service in the dining room.
Our room was comfortable with every comfort that we needed and quiet which was important to us.

Room Tip: we chose a 3rd floor balcony room overlooking the harbour which was not only private but quiet

We (2A, 2C) stayed 2N in a family unit which was brillaint cause it was like having our own self contained house -cosy, with a well-maintained kitchen and even cosier living room. Lovely views of the harbour and very quiet. There are 3 such houses in a row opposite the main wing of the hotel. There are designated carpark lots for the residents but there was one night where we had to park outside along the side road as a resident had parked his car and boat in two lots! All in all, a lovely stay and although we didnt walki but the main shopping and dining street -York Street is very near by car :) Great friendly reception too!

Just a block back from the famous Albany foreshore. That was very exciting as on your way into town you see all these hotel/motels that line the Albany Hwy that are quite a distance from the town centre. I picked this place by fluke – and was so glad I did. I was very impressed with the location of this hotel for the price… pubs, restaurants, the town buzz all just within minutes’ walk. The room was an open planned room that boasted a luxurious comfortable King Sized Bed, with a kitchenette, work area, dining room table (small) a lounge area with a coffee table. The bathroom was large with a huge relaxing spa bath. When booking – the more expensive rooms don’t have the spa bath, so you will need to double check. I stayed for 4 nights. I’ll be back for sure.

We had an overnight stay here in their family unit. Clean and comfortable. Great location, close to all amenities which is fantastic with 3 kids in tow! Very helpful staff on arrival and even though restaurant was being used for a conference, they had arranged with a local cafe, 10% off bfast vouchers which was an indication that they were thinking about their guests.

But what stood out most related to something that I would say happens often...I left my pillow behind! However, this is even more unusual - the manager Kerry, who was visting Perth, dropped the pillow off!! You woudln't get that any where else. Now thats customer service which is lacking nowadays. Thanks again Kerry and the team at BW.
