“AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

After reading rave reviews online and in The Age, I decided to take my parents - who were visiting from East Gippsland - to Scorched last Wednesday night.

What can I say? Not much really, except that the experience from start to finish was spectacular!

The restaurant is quite small but the atmosphere is cozy - think orange decor, wood furnishings, jazz playing in the background.

Upon entry, we were greeted warmly by a male waiter who would continue to serve us during the night. He was very amicable and was more than happy to answer our many questions - his knowledge of the menu was excellent.

The menu is designed to be shared - mezze style dining at its best. Our waiter advised that for 3 people, 6-7 plates is ideal.

As such, we ordered the salt cod fritters, beetroot salad, roasted cauliflower, little duck pies, slow cooked lamb, bastourma with tomato medley - we also enjoyed some complimentary zeally bay sourdough with olive oil and housemade dukkah.

Each plate was perfection; the balance of flavours was superb and the chefs clearly thought about our order as a whole as plates arrived in pairs that were perfectly matched.

The little duck pies for example, were served in conjunction with the beetroot salad. The duck pies, which were filo based and spiced with cinnamon were beautifully paired with the beetroot salad which added 'zing' to the palate.

Overall, I could not have been happier with my family's experience at Scorched and cannot wait to return.

*I feel it is important to note what great value Scorched is in comparison to other tapas or mezze style restaurants I have dined at recently. Most share plates come in at $16, the most expensive, the lamb and chicken, are priced at around the $30 mark. The serves are very generous, 6-7 plates were plenty for 3, we couldn't fit in dessert so perhaps I might order 1 less next time.

Scorched have hit the nail on the head when it comes to both quality and quantity.

Superb!

“Don't miss this restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

We had arrived from New Zealand and were meeting a friend from England who coincidentally was flying in from England on the same day. He told us that dinner was organised as his business colleagues had invited us to dinner as well... A great beginning to a great night out... This was their favourite restaurant and they were full of praise for it. There were 8 of us and the manager was given the instruction to choose for us... After checking no..nos we were served an amazing array of tapas style dishes which were flavoursome and perfectly cooked. Even the desserts were shared although I opted for their take on trifle...a good decision!
Wines were nicely balanced... And added to the festive occasion ...
I can't wait to go back!!!!

“A must do in Torquay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We live in Torquay and this is our all time favourite restaurant. We've been a number of times and know that no matter who we take with us, they will be impressed. Definitley not a place for younger kids given both the menu and the ambience but great for a group of friends or just a couple. The food is equisitive - great share plates - our favourite is to ask the kitchen to decide what we'll eat - we always end up with something we haven't tried before and we're never disappointed. Service is excellent - it's in a class of its own in Torquay.

“Worth a special trip from melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Just in Torquay for one night and Scorched made it a very fine trip indeed. It is well sited and the weather was lovely, but the food & wine were just excellent. From the fresh sourdough and lively local olive oil with the bubbly, through a range of tasty dishes with the gris and riesling to the kofta and cauliflower with the pinot and shiraz. A bubbly to cleanse and we were off. But next day we were back for fine coffee and the taster plate (which had 'fairy floss' made from chocolate and sesame - unprecedented!). A great food experience and a great pleasure chatting with the owner.

We took our friends here and really enjoyed the whole experience. The food is delicious and served at a steady pace with no rushing. Service very attentive and helpful with food allergies. Would definitely recommend.
