“Lives up to the hype”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

We loved our dinner at Jacques Raymond and believed it lived up to the hype and will definitely be back! Its hard to find a fine dining restaurant without the pretentious attitude and we loved how relaxed we felt, yet how fancy the place is.

We had an 8 course degustation with a bottle of french wine and Moet champagne and loved every moment of it!

After course 6 i needed a lie down and some soda but kept on trucking on because the food was AMAZING and beautifully thought out.

We had a belated engagement dinner there and after all the courses they brought out ANOTHER plate of dessert with Happy Engagement on it which was a great touch.

Another great touch was when we ordered a taxi and the waitstaff announced that our chariot awaited us haha that gets me everytime.

Jaccques Raymond is a restaraunt everyone needs to visit at least once in their lifetime as our bill did exceed $500 but we will definitely be back!

“CompleteLetDowntowardstheEnd”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Service towards the end was a complete shocker and let down to what we thought was a lovely evening making our way through the degustation menu.
As we got up to settle our bill, we were deeply insulted by the statement that came from the waiter asking us "if we were planning to run away without paying". We settled the billed as intended and walk out there completely disappointed that a lovely evening was ruined by the insensitive action.

“Words can't describe this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

If your planing a special occasion or trip to Melbourne, you have to book at JR. You will need a good 2-3 months notice for a Saturday night, but lunch is also available. I would describe it as modern Australian with a French and Japanese overtone. It's set around a degustation theme with 3,4,5 or 9 courses. Each course is a small (very small) sampler or entree. Expect to pay $150-200 per person without wine but its a real "bucket list" restaurant. I can only say the food is incredible, nothing else will justify it. Jacque is usually there himself and not sold out to television shows or commercials - ask nicely and they will let you tour the kitchen. So get dressed up and enjoy!

“Brilliant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Fantastic service, fantastic food, fantastic wine in a beautiful old mansion.

I'm sure we would have been served by at least 6 or 7 different wait staff during the night, all knew exactly where our meal was up to, and were knowledgeable about our courses and our wine.

The food was interesting and different, small packages but packed with different complementing flavours. My partner and I chose 6 and 5 courses respectively rather than the set degustation and loved every course.

Wasn't cheap by any standards but very much worth every cent for a special occasion.

This would have to be one of the best restaurant experiences of my life.

“Three hatted restaurant in melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for many months.
Location- I took a cab from south bank and it cost $17. It is nestled in a suburban street, away from chapel st. My friends has been there by a tram, so I'm sure you can get there by it.
The restaurant is in the converted federation house, has grandeur, periodic feature yet modern and warm.
Staff were friendly and very attentive.
Food- we had degustation at $185 without wine. You can also get 6 course for $185 and 4 or 5 courses for slightly cheaper price. I loved every dish that came out. They were tasty, well presented and delicious. If you are a big eater, (those who never get full from degustation) you won't be full from here either.
Overall, it was great place for a great meal. A nice experience for a three hatted place if you wanted to try.
