“Business traveller review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Great decor and space in rooms... beds are divine and like sleeping on a cloud.
If meeting other guests for breakfast and sitg at the same table - they can not do separate bills for each room. this was disappointing.
Reception staff are always really freindly and helpful..

Room Tip: The room I was in with balcony on commercial road have a lot of road noise if open the balcony door...

Hi Beth, I hope your stay wasn't all work and no play!

Lots of space, a great shower and a fantastic night's sleep are three of the things we focussed on when designing the hotel. I'm glad you appreciated our 'extra legroom' and 'cloud 9s' we put in for you. Remember - the beds, pillows, linen - its all available for purchase if you want to sleep at home like you do with us.

I've spoken to Gramercy about their split bills, they are looking into their system to make this easier. Sorry if this caused any inconvenience.

I hope to catch up with you next time you stay,

Matt

Fun and colourful - from the Ned Kelly inspired ticket machine in the garage to the pile of art books stacked in the room. Comments: Bathroom is glass enclosure and not soundproof and might want to leave the lights off :-) Bedding is luxurious with pillows made in heaven. Fitness Centre is small, especially if there's more than one person working out at a time. Hotel parking is expensive, but on the street there's plenty of space. Sign states: 2 hour parking 9-6 which translates: move your car by 11am and put back at 4pm. Prahran Market right across the street for amazing produce.

Room Tip: ask for high up and view

Hi Foof, thanks for your review. I can honestly say I think you are the first person to mention our carparking ticket machine! Thanks!

You seem to have summed us up pretty nicely, except that our pillows are made locally in Melbourne, not Heaven, due to enormous shipping costs and a 3 month lead time (they have the same specifications as the ones from Heaven though).

Hope you get teh chance to come back soon,

Matt

The second of the Art Series we stayed at on our trip recently. Room was nice, but the art is a bit odd. Very convient to Chapel St for the shoppies. Bed super comfy, staff very helpful. Parking a bit of an issue in this and the Blackman

What a whirlwind trip! Glad to hear you have tried two out of our three hotels, I'm sure you will agree each one has its own identity and vibe.

Thanks for your review - our beds are amazing (and for sale - give us a call for the info), Chapel Street is literally just around the corner and we do love our staff. Like most cities, Melbourne can suffer from lack-of-parking-itis but we will always find a spot for you, next time just leave us your keys and we'll do the hard work.

I hope to see you back soon,

Matt

i like these series of hotels, especially that of the art. i can't say i'm a big fan of the art in the cullen, but i didn't dislike it either. but this is not an art review...

this hotel is ok. i think people on trip advisor are way too liberal with their handing out of "excellent" ratings. with due respect to this hotel and it's staff, there is no way the cullen deserves an "excellent" rating. it's ok.

it's in a very good location, on commercial rd just off chapel st.

the entrance is very underwhelming. is a hotel entrance important? well, there are more important things in the world, but yes - i think the entrance gives you a first impression of the hotel. it can make a statement. the statement made at the cullen is pretty non-existent. very easy to miss as it's not on commercial rd itself, but the side street.

anyway, i like to provide lengthy reviews to places i love or truly despise. the cullen is neither. it's not terrible and it's certainly not excellent - it's ok.

Room Tip: rooms on the 1st floor overlooking commercial rd or the side street entrance are ripe for street noi...

Hi Captain Funkelicious,
I agree with your comments on our art - Adam's work certainly isnt to everyone's taste, however we do like to do things a little differently between our hotels to keep things interesting.
Our lobby is positioned on Grattan Street to keep out of the way of the foot traffic on Commercial Road - we are a boutique hotel and need to keep some space off the street for our guests to relax. Though its true our interior designers did not incorporate sweeping staircases or glittering chandeliers in our lobby areas, we do aim for comfort within the clean lined space. All guests are offered fresh fruit, a complimentary gumball from our gumball machine, any paper you like and a great selection of magazines and art books.
Captain, while it seems we missed the mark in 'wowing' you, I am glad you had an overall positive experience.

I stay in Melbourne for business and always stay the Cullen. The service is always great, the rooms are fun.
Good location, surrounded by cool restaurants.
The restaurants which are part of the hotel are good and offer a variety of food options.
The gym has everything that you need for a daily workout.

Thanks for a great weekend away. A short trip but one highlighted by a fantastic personalised service, fantastic location to take advantage of the Chapel street shops and bars, a boutique individualised layout with great food and a fabulous wine list in the bar! See you again soon!

We were really happy with the service at the Cullen hotel. The staff was wonderful. We were surprised with a bottle of wine to celebrate our 6 year anniversary. The room was very modern and artistic and housekeeping was spot on. The hotel is located out of the city and a short walking distance away from Chapel St, so if was a nice breathe of air from all the noise.
There's a tram that takes you straight into the city which is located right in front of the hotel.
We definitely be going back again.

Room Tip: i think any room would be great

Thanks for your review Corinna and once again Happy Anniversary.
I'm so glad you chose to celebrate with us, we love special occasions. Sounds like you got out and about while you were with us too - we are certainly very lucky having the 72 tram on our doorstep.
Be sure to come and say hello next time you stay,
