“We love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2008

With the exception of the lack of airconditioning in the one bedroom/ground floor apartments - (soon to be installed we were told- and if you are on a winter break, the electric heaters are super efficient anyway), this property exudes excellence.

We have stayed in the two bedroom and one bedroom apartments, and if you are going to grouch about this property, then try staying in some of the sub-standard/same price properties close by.

This was our fourth stay, and we wondered whether the white or cream coloured leather sofa's had stood the test of time - and they had. Everything was super clean - and just fabulous after some of the places we have stayed.

The one bedroom/lounge apts are compact, have a small private garden with table/chairs. Just don't cart too much luggage into your bedroom.

Beds are super comfortable with lambswool duvets - thanks heavens -. Close to the village eating/shopping strip, and a pleasant walk down to the river front. Make sure you have a meander around the little streets to see the different styles of cottages.

There are deals to be made on some of the last minute sites.

Go there and enjoy!

My partner and I arrived at the Vic Apts and due to the lengthy stay, and low occupancy were upgraded into a stunning 2br apt.
The view was astounding from the lounge room let alone the balcony. The apts are very mod, stylish and spacious. In the living room the large flat screen was a comfort for the damp days. The lockup garage made us feel very secure. The receptionists were very warm and welcoming. Simply Perfect Accommodation!

We stayed here over Easter and we were quite disappointed. Firstly having booked online and being payed for in full we received a phone call days before our stay asking us for payment. This however was settled once the manager was informed.
We had booked a one bedroom apartment that was unfortunately on street frontage. Very cramped conditions in the lounge and the kitchenette was very basic. There was a smoke alarm right above the cooking facilities with no exhaust fan which made us hesitant about cooking anything in case the alarm went off.
Very noisy throughout due to street frontage and there is no insulation in the walls which means we could hear the occupants upstairs walking around, up and down stairs etc.
Even though the apartment is equipped with modern features we felt they were not user friendly. The mixer tap in the shower recess was hard to regulate. ie hot=cold, cold=cold and inbetween = luke warm. When we told the manager of our disappointment we were met with a "well you did book the one bedroom".
I would definitely not stay in a one bedroom apartment especially facing the street again and for the tremendous cost of the place we were very disappointed.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite for just one night and chose the place once we arrived in town because it looked new and modern - and was near the restaurant and bar strip which we wanted so we could walk home after dinner.

The good:
Your own locked and secure carport which lead into the apartment corridor. NB (there is room for 2 cars and is shared with the other apartment)
Nice new bed - quite large and comfortable.
Large shower and all toiletries included.
Cable TV on new flatscreen in lounge area.
Our room was off the main drag, so there was no traffic noise. It might be worth checking the location of your room when you book to make sure you don't get a room facing the street.

The bad:
The website does not reflect the position of the accommodation, which is right on the main street (Bank Street). Ignore the pics of the waterfront on the marketing material, the beach/waterfront is a still short walk away.
No aiconditioning on lower floor where we were. We had to keep the doors open all night. They did provide a floor fan - but this is much noisier than installed air con and we had to leave it on all night.
Felt very cramped as one bedroom 'suite' was truly miniscule in size, but OK for a short stay.
We were quoted the wrong price by the girl who checked us in, but the manager in the morning reduced the room to the quoted price, although he was not happy about it.
Quite pricey considering the size of the accommodation and lack of air-con.

Overall:
New and modern and would consider staying here again if I didn't mind not being on the water, but might look at other room types.

  • Liked — New and modern.
  • Disliked — Tiny size and no air conditioning.

Our family of 6 stayed here for 2 nights on our way from Melbourne to Adelaide via The Great Ocean Road. We booked a great deal on a 3 bed, but were given the 4 bed cottage and we were very happy as it was beautiful and very spacious! We appreciated this greatly after all the small apartments we had been staying in up until then! Although It only had 1 bathroom and 1 TV the cottage was very large and very pretty with a little private Courtyard and lots of privacy. The Kitchen was a good size and we were able to have some home cooked meals! Although the restaurant at the Victoria looked nice. Port Fairy is lovely and very quaint with a very Irish feel - being of Irish decent it felt like a home from home!

We stayed at this apartment for our last night on our trip on the Great Ocean road and it was the best place.

We'd booked a 2 bed apartment. But in reality it was 2 apartments with an adjoining corridor, which gave us all extra privacy.
On entering the apartment there is a corridor which leads to the downstairs apartment and stairs going off the corridor to the upstairs apartment.
The downstairs one had a bedroom, kitchen and living area on the ground floor. The bedroom was ensuite with lots of toiletries available. Living area with sofa bed and big flat screen tv. Basic kitchen facilities.

The upstairs apartment was amazing. It was huge, beautifully furnished and very spacious. Little balcony. Huge flat screen tv. 2 big bedrooms (one queen size bed and the other 2 singles).
Big kitchen with plenty of cooking utensils and crockery.
Everything was modern and very clean.

Both apartments were furnished in the same way.

There was also a private garage underneath the apartment so our car could be locked away at night.
The staff were very helpful.

I would definitely stay here again.
