“Cute, tiny and quirky lovely attic room, lovely breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

We were happy to land in Port Fairy and find lodging at Merrijig Inn in their last available room, an attic bedroom with a whole range of sloping ceiling heights, all an engineering wonder. Two separate single beds, each with their own hand crocheted warm water bottle covers. Lots of wonderful downstairs rooms for sitting, catch-up emailing, drinking a glass or wine or a cuppa, very charming indeed. Went out for dinner at Ramella's Cafe (highly recommended) and slept well through a hurricane-force rainy and windy night. Breakfast was superb with locally sourced everything, from juices, jams, breads, yoghurt, preserves, and eggs. What wonderful spot!

I loved my stay here. A beautiful old building. To be honest it was the light in the window which caught my eye and I'm glad it did. Walking in the front door we were greeted with the most wonderful aroma coming from the kitchen. Popping in initially for a cup of tea, the romance of staying in such a lovely place won me over and we didn't even look at any if the other accommodation options. The room in the attic was quaint - incredibly cosy and inviting, the bathroom immaculately clean and very modern. Although we didn't take up the breakfast option as we were hoping to leave early, the value was great. As it happened we left after breakfast had finished but was offered coffee for the road. I look forward to staying here again. It truly is a lovely place.

What a wonderful 2 night stay - sad to leave - also don't want to recommend this to to many people as it might not be available to us when we want it! Cannot praise this lovely boutique style accomodation enough. Staff are lovely as is the ambience of each and every room. First time my hubby and I have sat by a wonderful open fire and be able to relax - even finished a book, while sipping on a great Coonawarra red. Port Fairy also offers all you would want as far as eating choices and great retail therapy as well!

My partner and I stayed for a lovely romantic weekend in May. Friendly hospitality, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. What more could one ask for? Love the feel of the place. Recommend the queen room at the back that overlooks the garden. It's huge! It has a a very historical feel which adds to its charm. Why would you want to stay in something new, when this place has so much more to offer. Highly recommended.

What could possibly top three days of wonderful scenery, food, wine and fun - the Merrijig Inn. The weather was cold but clear and the warm cosy environment was perfect. Every detail was considered and history and heritage oozed from every brick and beam. The room was sumptuous and very comfortable, reading by the fire a delight and the breakfast absolutely delicious - all produce local and sustainable too. Liz was the perfect hostess, do not miss this treat if you are going to Port Fairy.

Perfect winter stay - cosy, warm and just what we needed. More than one open fire so plenty of spaces to sit and relax. The rooms were clean, and again great attention to detail. Fantastic hosts, will definitely be back.

We were warmly welcomed at this cosy and picturesque old inn, dating from about 1842. The inn is invitingly decorated in a mix of old and new and our room looked out across a verandah to the cottage garden at the front. The back grassed garden contains the vegetable garden with hens softly clucking around and you can see from there across to the river port. It is only a short walk to Griffiths Island, home to a shearwater colony as well as the bluestone lighthouse dating from 1859. Dinner, after a drink in the cosy bar, was in the Merrijig Kitchen with the open fire keeping us warm, an absolutely delicious meal. Elsewhere there were other sitting areas with comfortable sofas and chairs, easy to fall asleep in front of the fire! Breakfast was wonderful, don't miss the caraway seeded rye toast!

Room Tip: Room no 1 on the ground floor was spacious with a small sitting room as well. The queen size bed was...
