“Most comfy bed ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013 via mobile

We booked a night with friends through Secret Escapes for a five course taster menu and bed and breakfast. The room was spacious and well appointed with a lovely big shower with lashings of hot water. Our friends had a jacoussi bath which they loved. There was a comfy sofa in the room plus the most enormous comfy bed you could imagine. The meal was very good indeed as was the service. The staff were all friendly and the atmosphere was cosy rather than grand. If I wanted to be picky my only comment would be that I would normally expect more toiletries and tissues in the room when it is 5 star, but we had a really nice stay.

This really was an exceptional stay with the most friendly 'personalised' service from the start. We were thrilled with the modern, spotlessly clean room which, as with the others, was individually designed and furnished to a very high standard. The 5-course tasting menu exceeded our high expectations and the parsnip and apple soup was an ideal alternative starter course as we are not keen on shellfish. This was one of those rare 'faultless experiences' and the best short break that we've had had for some time.

Stayed for 3 nights, on a deal with the taster menus. 15 different courses over 3 nights, all of them delightful. The full English breakfasts were unbeatable, the eggs were lovely, all served in a traditional country pub. The local beer was excellent.
The accommodation is in an adjacent separate modern building. We had the Gainsborough room, a large well furnished room which is probably the best modern hotel room I've ever stayed in.

Wondered why the Pheasant at Gestingthorpe received only 5star reviews - Now we know! A warm welcome, beautifully appointed bedroom with great facilities and wonderful views. The five course tasting menu is perfectly balanced in taste and content and introduced us to so many different dishes. Four nights, five courses each night, and not one dish repeated. Oh! And we almost forgot the brilliant breakfasts. Scrambled eggs as they should be but so rarely are. The produce is so fresh and James is an inspired chef who obviously cooks from the heart. It took us a long journey to get to this pretty village inn, but it was well worth the effort. No wonder it is so well patronised by the locals.
A mention too, that the local bus passes the door every hour and will stop on request.
Thank you Diana, James and all your lovely staff - your reputation is well deserved.

Room Tip: The Mark Catesby room is on the ground floor, with disabled facilities and a huge bed. A large room...

We booked the Secret Escapes deal with cream tea, 5 course taster menu and bed and breakfast. We had a marvellous suite called the Captain Oates with a stunning, uninterrupted view of the countryside on the first floor - lovely large bed, gorgeous bathroom with the biggest Jacuzzi bath I've ever seen! plus a wonderfully large walk in shower. The cleanliness of the room was absolutely faultless, you could even see your reflection in all the chrome appliances!

The food was scrumptious using all locally sourced products plus from their own gardens. We ordered a wonderful Prosecco which at £20 was reasonably priced.

Diana was very welcoming and friendly as two were the two waitresses that served us.

A very pleasant stay and we would love to go back sometime to sample the A La Carte menu.

We loved our recent overnight stay at The Pheasant. We booked via Secret Escapes and had the deal including cream tea, dinner (taster menu) and breakfast. Everything was as fantastic as other reviewers have described before. We had already noted with the owners that one of us didn't eat fish and the other didn't eat red meat and they had thoughtfully created our taster menu around this, couldn't of chosen better courses ourselves. So nice to know that most of the produce is grown at the premises or locally sourced produce. Very welcoming and friendly. The room (The Samuel Courtauld) was just perfect for us and great bathroom with walk-in shower. The views were gorgeous even though it was a damp and misty day. Just want to go back and visit in summer and maybe enjoy the local country walks. Very good value and would recommend.

This offers luxury accommodation in a modern setting. We had the Samuel Courtauld room with an Art Deco theme, with glorious views of unspoilt open countryside.
The taster menu was unlike anything we had tasted before and was excellent in both presentation and taste.
Would recommend this to anyone touring Suffolk and wants to be spoilt.
