“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Stayed in one of the apartments overlooking the ocean. The room was clean and tidy with good amenities. As the room overlooked the beach it was very quiet at night, with only the sound of the waves rolling in. The facilities in the hotel were OK, the gym was small but functional and the pool area/sauna/steam room looked good. The breakfast buffet was a different matter. It seems that most guests arrive at the same time (9am) after which the staff are completely overwhelmed. Difficult to get a seat and you may have to clear your own table. The range of food was as expected for a buffet of this kind, however the kitchen could not keep up with the demand for the hot food leading to long queues and rapid emptying was the food arrives. Overall, quite an expensive hotel for what you get but not surprising given the lack of competition in Lorne.

My fiancé recently stayed at the Mantra Lorne for the second time. We love it. The location is fantastic. We walked straight from the resort to Erskine Falls and back. The restaurant is a good price and overlooks the beach. They indoor pool is great and was relaxing swimming after our day walk. We shall be back!

We stayed in a large and nicely furnished room and couldn't complain about the facilities, albeit the view of the industrial bins from the balcony. The only real disappointment of our stays was the buffet breakfast which left a sour taste in our mouth as we left that morning. The buffet was extremely busy, which is understandable but there were only a handful of staff managing the buffet and most of the time guests were standing around the buffet waiting for food to be brought out, and the rest of the staff were swanning around slowly cleaning up tables oblivious to the fact that most guests were unhappily waiting for food. You will enjoy a pleasant stay, but avoid dining at the resort and instead enjoy the proximity of the resort to many wonderful eating spots in Lorne.

On arrival had high hopes, then we got to our complex and that is when illusion was lost, room was even more uninviting.... cold in temp and in appearance, no toilet paper and same piece of litter was on the stair well for our entire stay. Not to mention room service finished at 8.30pm, which is when we arrived on a Friday night.... there is no mention of that when you book and say you will be getting there around 9.
We had booked an Ocean View One Bedroom apartment, and paid handsomly for it (better value for money in the local pub for same view)
Breakfast, if you can call it that was not worth the money either, and we weren't the only ones complaining, terrible service and standard of food when there was any that is.
The restaurant Bar144 was again over rated and over priced, service terrible and food below average, appearance is verging on cheap and nasty outdated decor, wood tables all chipped you could at least put come linen on it.....
I do give points to the Endota day spa, which was the only positive experience, clean, refreshing and inviting... service outstanding... thank you for that.
Overall experience very disappointing for such a stunning location in one of Victorias most beautiful regions.

A last minute booking, albeit in the older section but a well appointed & clean room. Ventured down to the bar for 'happy' hour before heading in to town for dinner, one person behind the the bar serving one customer, we sat at on a handful of barstools to wait for service. Another person came and stood behind the first customer...waiting (about 5 minutes in total), bar person did not even give us a glance and proceeded to serve other person. We looked at each other (there was 4 of us) pulled out stools out and left.

Room Tip: gardens and surrounds in the whole complex are great

We had an ocean view resort room and had great views of the ocean albeit across the tennis courts in-between our 2nd floor room and the ocean. We spent two nights there and location is just awesome. Very quiet (although we were there in Winter so not sure how busy and noisy it'll be in Summer months. We walked to the restaurants and pub each night (5 mins easy walk). Breakfast at the bakery across the road for brekkie was nice too. Service was cheerful and helpful. Having the heated pool/sauna was fantastic and all the other amenities which we didn't use but saw looked fantastic. The room itself was well presented and clean. Bed was very comfy indeed and the balcony/breakfast nook was well designed. Only gripe would be that the fan in the bathroom didn't suck up enough moisture leaving the mirrors all fogged up.

I was on holiday in Melbourne over easter 2013, and for a nice break by the sea, we booked a two bedroom unit at Mantra Lorne. Have a look at the website, and you will see photos of the resort. They are all along similar lines- airy, modern apartments looking out over the sea or tranquil views over trees and lawns. What could go wrong? Plenty.

The apartment we had gave us the choice of a view of the industrial bins at the back of the function centre, with the attendant noise of bottle being disposed of at all hours, or directly into the living room of an apartment in the next block. To avoid a view of the people in the next apartment we had to keep the blinds drawn- so much for light and airy!

Whoever designed this resort was trying to get the maximum return on the space available without any consideration of the amenity for the people paying good money to stay there.

My point is that what really upsets people is when there is a vast gulf between the expectation generated by the website and the reality when they arrive at the resort. Please do look at the photos I have uploaded and compare them to the advertising from Mantra- you wouldn't believe it was the same place.

I have stayed in plenty of pretty ordinary places around the world but you accept that when it is the best accommodation available locally and the people taking the booking are honest about what you are going to get. If they had said when we made the booking, "This is the only unit we have available, and be aware that it's nothing like our advertised product.", we might not have been so annoyed.
