Description: St Katherine’s was opened in 2011 by Shane Delia and George Calombaris. For the long time friends, St Kat’s is a place where they have brought together their individual family histories, culture and cuisines – a marriage of ideas from Malta, Greece and Cyprus together with an influence from the Middle East. It’s this culmination of ideas will bring together a sexy sharing style ‘mezze’ menu. With its custom made Turkish grill, fourteen spike rotisserie and a wood fired oven, St Katherine’s guarantees a dining experience that is fresh, healthy and filled with flavoursome and affordable food that leaves you craving more.

Located in Kew, St Katherine’s offers the local community a restaurant that is both relaxed and warm. Kew, described by Shane as a "family friendly suburb," seemed like the perfect location for Shane and George to promote the ‘shared family table’ for a laid-back, family-friendly eating experience.

St Katherine’s features a shared chefs table and food designed by the kitchen daily and served ‘yum cha style’.

“Really noisy and over priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Thought this would be a great place on reputation. Food ok yet overpriced. Very noisy too. I'd book upstairs where it is quiet and less "in and out" of customers

“Bold and boisterous”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

The St Katherines promo blurb says "It's all about celebrations" and I reckon this is spot-on. This is a large and rather noisy space best enjoyed with a group of friends.
Because our group was larger than 8 people we were required to order the banquet. This was initially a little disappointing, but this feeling soon abated once the food began to arrive, delivered by a small army of very busy, but still smiling waiters
All the Turkish/middle eastern favourites were there and the serving sizes were substantial. We left feeling perfectly sated and at $55 a head (more for dinner I note) we thought it represented good value.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Dinner with great friends could not have been better. It is a very busy place but the wait staff were right on from the start. Our reservation was received and we were taken to our table promptly, then offered water immediately and it did not stop all night. The staff gave good suggestions to us with the menu explaining every dish in detail but made sure that no one had any allergies or intolerances. The food came quickly with ample time between dishes. We all agreed that the food was excellent! Very Greek but nothing was too strong in one area, it worked your taste buds over.
Overall a Fantastic experience.

“George George George! You need to go and take control”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We phoned at 745pm on the night and You accepted our late reservation for 8pm but did not tell us you had run out of food. We were seated at our table and waited45min for some attention and a menu ..We could see waiters polishing glasses and knives and forks and chatting but we could not get their attention. I think they were getting ready for the next day We ended sourcing a menu from the service station next to us, we helped ourselves. When it came to ordering everything we ordered had run out! Really no BBQ chicken, no fish no pork .. No mains !!! and no alternative suggestions from the waiter, who also decided to tell us how we should pronounce "wagu" . The table near us was occupied by some sporting celebs who seemed to have everywaiters attention. At 10.15 the Matrede wizzed passed and said " all good here" but she didn't stop to hear the answer.
We live locally and like St Katherine's , dining quite often, but George things have been slowly slipping How can you judge MC when you yourself run out of food and offer terrible service You are better off not taking the booking. There are too many other new places to try with great food and service

“Pleasant Quick Meal But Could Do Better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

This evening my wife and i decided to eat out at St Katherine's, our first visit in fact although we live in Kew. With no reservation, we were able to get seats at the communal table right away. That probably would not have been possible when the restaurant was first launched and for a good year afterwards. We were expecting to eat some good Mediterranean food- with Greek, Maltese, Turkish and Lebanese touches. Thats a good food profile for casual eating. Since we weren't very hungry we ordered only three dishes - an order of Turkish Lamb Dumplings, a simple green salad and a (Turkish-style) Pide pizza with chicken kofte and a coriander mayo dressing. The pide was extremely good and just the right size. The green salad was rather small and undistinguished and the crushed tomato component was very minimal although my wife liked the dressing. The disappointment was the Turkish Lamb Dumplings. The serving was ample but the pasta used for the dumplings was too thick and gluggy and the lamb filling was too small and some of the dumplings didn't even have the filling. The spicy yogurt-based sauce served with this dish was good, however.
Its probably a tad unfair to judge a restaurant on just one visit and judging by the speed with which the restaurant filled up after we arrived at around 6.30pm the kitchen crew and servers are clearly pleasing the punters. The service (by some very good looking young men and women) was fast and pleasant and the final bill, while on the high side for simple mezze type food, didn't cause any heart attacks. The restaurant space is large, bright (and rather noisy) but the diners seemed to be loving it all and we were pleased to see so many families with small children. We will be back again soon to sample a wider range of the food on offer. We hope that our food selections on the next visit will be more uniformly acceptable. If there was a button in between 'average' and 'very good' we would have ticked it.
