“Terrible and very disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We were given a two night voucher deal by a friend. The hotel in in an ideal position however the room was old and delapedated! It smelt of mould, ripped curtains and drapes, 3 TV channels as there is no digital TV or DVD player. The couch was fadded and although there was a jug and tea making facilities there was no where to plug it in! The BBQ area was rusted and dirty disguesting!!!The noise from other rooms was terrible and the breakfast was of very low standard. Very disappointing! Would not recommend to anyone!!!

Our family purchased a coupon for a two night stay on Phillip Island. We then read the reviews and thought that we'd lower our expectations. However, this was a wonderful trip. The staff were really really helpful and very very friendly. The hotel is aged but functional. We had a family room which was two double beds separated by the bathroom en-suite and a small hallway so as to create two distinct areas that's great for the kids in one space and the parents in the other. Everything in the room worked including the heating which was great as the nights were closed. The food in the bar was excellent value for money with good portion sizes that were tasty and fresh. We've stayed in many five star places (such as Crown Towers in Melbourne) and have not been treated as well even though we spent many times the money. The package was really great with the three park pass included so we could go visit the penguins, koalas and Churchill Island. The kids had a great time and want to come back. So we will!

Room Tip: Try the ground floor rooms overlooking the water so you don't have to climb stairs and can walk...

My wife and I have stayed here twice before and thought we knew what to expect. Location is still fine, opposite the beach and rooms still spacious and clean and good sized spa. But the price has been jacked up. Last year it was $110, now it is $160 and the place is a bit more run down and the free breakfast, never wonderful but at least served in a spacious warm room, accessible under cover from the room, is now decidedly shoddy and served in the bar because poker machines have been installed in the former breakfast room. Cheap cereals and bread and soggy cheese and cold meats does not enthral. Cutlery and glasses grubby too. In the room, no scrim or lightweight curtain (second floor) so you are on display or in the dark. And the free wifi does not work in the room, only in reception or the bar. Girl on reception was helpful but we won't be staying again. When it was a cheap deal, we couldn't complain. Now it's not cheap, has not been improved at all, so we can.

I stayed here with a Group of my girlfriends in late May, we were a bit concerned about the reviews that we had read but were pleasantly surprised, We went to Reception to check in it was Made Quick & Easy.

We weren't Expecting anything to Glamorous but as we walked into our room it was clean, Cosy & not at all what we were expecting. The Spa Bath was a god send, it was relaxing & comfortable the beds were great. A queen size bed was offered & I had the most comfortable sleep - We Paid $160.00 a night for an Excellent room with a great view, we were all very pleased.

When booking a hotel it is important to have a broad mind weather you read good or bad reviews. Because in some situations you will be surprised with what you get.

All in all we had an extremely enjoyable stay & would definitely recommend the Continental Hotel to our friends.

ALSO REMEMBER IT IS ONLY A 3 STAR HOTEL! Its great that they offer breakfast as an inclusion at all!!!!!

Room Tip: I suggest you stay in an Ocean View Spa room on the 3rd Floor.

This hotel is clean but very run down with no facilities at all. Very old analogue tv furniture falling apart. This is a $50 dollar a night hotel not a $165 a night hotel. We stayed in a deluxe spa suite still rubbish.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel

Stayed in a "Deluxe" room which included "breakfast" for $160 per night. Curtains were torn, furniture was damaged with chipboard exposed , heating on air conditioning not functioning and rotting timber in the bathroom! It is the worst room I have stayed in in years and an embarrassment to Australian tourism. "Breakfast" turned out to be stale cereals and cheese slices and cheap luncheon meats. We felt embarrassed as Australians that the rest of the guests who were overseas tourist would think that this is an acceptable standard.

Staff exceptional, rooms a bit 'dated' but not the worst I have seen. Breakfast was so yummy and everything you could think of. Kids loved it being so close to the pier and across the road from the water.. Will 100% be staying there again.
