“Love the refurb”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Very nice. The new refurb is great. Very modern, very clean, very tastefull. Love the use of mirrors and particians. Table service was quick. We were offered pre dinner drinks and menu within a couple of minutes of being seated. Again offered drinks at a regular interval. Our meal was lovely. Bruschetta to start. Pumpkin and sundried tomato pasta for she and steak with creamy prawns for he. Good serving size and fresh (you can always tell if fresh). Over all a nice evening out.

“A little better than the norm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2008

This restaurant has a trendy look to it, which is probably commendable although it looked ever so slightly out of place in southwestern Victoria.

Main serving sizes were adequate and quality fair, though not as good as many similar establishments in Melbourne.

Prices are acceptable, and service was reasonable although at times there was a little bit of a delay. Many Australians in the hospitality sector seem to lack a service culture and training seems never to pick them up on this point, but diners sure notice.

“Just an O.K. experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2008

I was with a group of four, who lunched at Culture Cafe on 11 August 2008. Overall it was an alright experience. The restaurant is situated at one end of Murray Street (otherwise known as the Princes Highway), which is Colac's main street. The bright red exterior is a bit off-puting, and the interior is a bit sparse and barren, with concrete floor. While we sat at a table quite removed from the front door, the internal heating was fighting a losing battle to keep the place warm. Admittedly the outside air temperature was only 9C, but restaurants should be warm and cosy. Food orders are placed at the counter, but waitresses deliver the meals to tables. Any food is possible here, from sandwiches, pastas, asian meals and the full grill with the lot. I had a beef satay on rice, and my rice was not adequately cooked. But my companions who ordered other dishes seemed well satisfied. After dark, Culture Cafe seems to become something of a nightclub and bar, but I didn't wait around for that transformation. Perhaps things improve for dinner here, but our lunch was only an average experience.
