“Old World Charm at it's Best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2009

Stayed at Bowerbank Mill at the end of April 2009, by chance, after our pre-arranged accommodation proved to be unsuitable. This proved to be our good luck as the place was charming, full of history and the friendlyness and special touches provided by our host, Anne, made it a delightful stay. The Chimney Cottage, in which we stayed, was full of old world charm and ambience galore plus the open log fire kept it cosy on those cold nights. As seasoned travellers, we would recommend Bowerbank Mill to anyone that is looking for the B&B experience in the European tradition.

My husband, daughter and I were on a 2 week holiday in Northern Tasmania, hankering for green fields, old buildings, time to unwind. We didn't want to visit attractions, just to be part of the old graceful history of this part of Australia and explore the land. Deloraine was therefore on our stay list and my husband booked us into the Bowerbank. We stayed in the rooms with the round window - looking out onto the garden, after Anne (host) showed us around the mill. The room was a combination of gorgeous old fittings and furniture, comfort (DVD flat screen greatly pleased our daughter) and lots of lavish food (breakfast, afternoon teas, which we never managed to eat our way through). Anne is a friendly, informed host, and we enjoyed the restoration and care she has given to the mill - she helped us find out where to go and where to eat - she showed us around the whole mill - all beautifully and carefully restored --if we were to go again we'd ask to stay in the top floor (go with friends) which is amazing in its wood panels and fittings and 'secret' staircase.

The service we experienced in our 4 night stay at Bowerbank Mill B&B was second to none. It was good, honest hospitality with wonderful home prepared fare for breakfast (we can recommend the rhubarb compote) ;and to arrive home each afternoon to a slice of home baked cake or brownies was just heaven with a cup of tea!
Anne, the proprietor, is a local girl returned to the area and is rightfully proud of what she and her partner have achieved with the restoration of the mill and building up its B&B business.
She will take you on a tour of the mill and relay its history if timing is suitable. She is a font of knowledge of the local area and can recommend restaurants and local sightseeing. Her warm, friendly nature made our stay extremely pleasurable and we would recommend Bowerbank Mill B&B without hesitation. Thank you again for a wonderful stay.

John and I stayed in the mill 3 weeks ago. We had the Chimney Cottage and it was most exsisting to stay amongst all the history of the place and the antiques that match the place and set you back in time. Our hosts have also been absolutely nice and forthcoming. We were taken on a tour around the entire mill and it was great to hear about all the histroy of the place...plus brekkie was really delicious! Keep up the feel of the place...

set in a restored 4 storey mill this B&B has character +++. Our room was a well furnished suite with hundreds of old books and lots old furniture. Beds comfortable. Bathroom bit ordinary - but old and quaint. Breakfast great - if you like home cooked jams and preserves this is for you. If you like cooked breakfast go elsewhere. Was a little out of town so needed a car. Host helpful though some times when we were pressed for time she was a bit chatty - charming but chatty!. Good advice re restaurants etc. A gallery on site if you like browsing through old stuff and art. If you want internet or good phone access - need to go elsewhere.

We spent four nights at Bowerbank Mill and found it to be everything we had hoped for from its Internet promotion. The decor had an abundance of nineteenth century effects. The breakfast provided had an excellent variety of fresh homemade jams, fruit picked from the garden, home made yogurt, and cereals. Anne provided delicious treats for afternoon tea, and good recommendations for local restaurants for dinner. Stairs may be a problem for some but kept us fit. Anne was a delightful hostess, including providing an informative tour of this historical building. Clyde and Lorrie

Annie's B and B is a real gem. It is situated a short distance out of Deloraine but this is not a disadvantage. The historic character of the site is interesting and Annie loves to share it with her guests. The rooms and furnishings are amazing and the breakfast, including home made jams, very nice. Annie offers amazing help and service.
