After a nervy start to our Tassie Adventure (the heavy snow on the Lakes Highway from Hobart to Deloraine caught these 2 unsuspecting Queenslanders a little off-guard). The road was actually closed off the following day I believe. Rosemary was very helpful in navigating us to Forest Walks - as it was dark by the time we arrived. So arriving to a warm fire was most definitely appreciated. Sean cooked us a lovely meal on our first night (the trout was a particular highlight). The views are amazing from the lodge - made even better when you are standing inside in the warmth. Lots of nice little touches. Would happily stay again if we were in that beautiful part of the world again.

Arrived in some very inclement weather so could not have the walks but great service and lovely food made for a memorable and enjoyable stay with interesting and friendly hosts. Would recommend the lodge to any travellers seeking something a bit more.

We thought you would enjoy the flaming Christmas pudding. A special treat for Darwin guests having a Tasmanian winter experience. Our next guests may be lucky enough to get truffle ice-cream before the truffle season finishes.

I had the task of planning the annual "Mystery weekend", a nervy task when your friends are lovers of good food and wine.
I can confidently report that Forest Walks Lodge ticked all the boxes and more, the six of us enthused about our stay all the way home to Melbourne yesterday.
It's been said many times already, but Rosemary and Sean are the perfect hosts never intrusive, but always on hand to answer questions or to chat.
Sean really appreciates your interest in his food and welcomes your questions, no secret recipes here. He coped easily with a couple of food allergies from the group and as previously reported the meals were all delicious.
You are welcome to bring your own wines, for a small corkage charge, or sample from the small but carefully chosen selection of local wines on offer.
We found Sean's guided forest walk so enlightening. We all live in the Yarra Ranges/Dandenong Ranges area east of Melbourne, so we are not strangers to the Australian Bush; however a walk with such a passionate and gifted environmentalist made the forest come alive like never before.
The lodge is a fine example of eco sustainability, powered by solar and water, incorporating underfloor heating, double and even triple glazing. The overnight temperature dropped to minus 5 degrees on our last evening, we woke to a beautiful heavy frost but the indoor temperature remained very comfortable.
One last tip, if you arrive after dark, drive carefully, we encountered around 50 wallabies in the final kilometre before reaching the lodge.

Breathtaking location, wonderful eco-friendly building, delightful food, thrilling walks and endless stories and information to learn from. What more could you want? Sean and Rosemary are wonderful hosts, especially at the dinner table and guiding guests on fascinating walks. It's a very rare, exquisite location. The building and the rooms are superb. Really shows what you can do with clever, thoughtful design these days. Such comfort and elegance, and all off the grid!

Driving into the one lane country road you may start to wonder what kind of back country experience awaits... but alas you will find a modern, cozy, very smartly designed and beautifully built single story grid-free (solar/hydro) home. It is so refreshing to stay in a B&B that IS NOT wanna-be victorian era furnishings or just country kitch. This place is none of that! Just clean and comfortable, spacious and inviting. Sean & rosemary are low key and very gracious hosts. They can just sense how much space you want, or conversation you need. Sean is a master chef and went well above and beyond to accommodate our vegetarian meal request. In fact, it was by far the best dinner we had during our week in Tassie. The stars are absolutely amazing from the back patio as is the meadow view during the day. We were so glad to have spent a day/night here as it gave us a unique and memorable experience. Thank you.

We stayed in the family room (2 adults and 2 children aged 11 and 13) for 2 nights. Did the 4-5 hour forest walk with Sean, which was fantastic. Great to have expert commentary on the forest and Sean and Rosemary's knowledge of the local area and the environment movement. We also enjoyed exploring the grounds and the great views. The food was fantastic: local produce prepared beautifully. Would definitely stay again. Arrived after dark but the place is well sign posted. Lots of pademelons and possums about.

It's great to see kids out and about interacting with the wildlife in a natural setting.
