“Gorgeous little cabins far enough away and yet close to what you need”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

Excellent cabins hidden away amongst a lovely spacious plot on the coastline at Bicheno. Ducks, chickens, wallabies, possums wander around the grounds and pathways lead from the cabins down to the shoreline with little benches at the end perfect for drinks as the sun goes down.

Right on the foreshore walk which takes you round into the bay, and there is plenty of space for relaxing, barbecuing and sitting out on the deck looking out to see. The chalets were cosy and had everything you needed in them with the front side being almost completely glass with views over the horizon.

We were moved to Cabin 2 (because of the slightly better views) and were not disappointed,

My husband and I recently stayed at Bicheno Hideaway for 2 nights over the Queens Birthday long weekend.

The setting and location was exactly as described by previous tripadvisor reviews. Only a couple of minutes drive from Bicheno, it is far enough away to feel that you are in the middle of nowhere. The wildlife really is a treat, especially after sunset as the possums and wallabies come out.

The chalet itself could be updated but is not necessary as it is clean and comfortable and has all you need. The bed was very comfortable and although there is heating, the chalet gets quite chilly at night if you chose to turn the heating down!

The owners were overseas when we stayed, but Lee (caretaker) was lovely and very friendly with some great advice on the local area.

Overall, if you are a nature lover and not after 5 star accommodation - I would definitely recommend Bicheno Hideaway. We definitely would have stayed longer if we could and would stay here again if we ever travelled back to Bicheno.

Bicheno Hideaway is a great find – quiet location beside a secluded rocky beach, fantastic views, abundant wildlife and friendly hosts.

We stayed in Chalet 3, a self contained, one bedroom chalet at the end of a dirt track. The chalet had everything we needed but at the same time had a bit of a natural, unpolished feel to it. A lot of effort had been put towards making the place feel both personalised and eco-friendly.

The site itself is fairly quirky, with chooks, parrots, kangaroos and more. One of the mornings we were woke up to find a group of peacocks outside our door and one perched on our cabin.

The highlight of our stay was watching a pod of dolphins swim past at sunset from our balcony.

Recommend the Bicheno Penguin tour as well as the fresh seafood from the butcher in town.

We stayed for two nights on a trip around Tassie – however it would definitely be worth staying longer.

Bicheno Hideaway is a wonderful, romantic getaway in a beautiful setting. We stayed in Chalet 3 and loved how private and secluded it was. The private beach and rocky coastline that is right outside your door is so beautiful. The whole property has such charm and uniqueness that you can't help but fall in love with it! Make sure you ask the owners about how they came to own the property, it's a wonderful story! The chalet itself is not fancy but instead is very rustic. I agree with other reviewers that it could use with a few upgrades but that doesn't take away from a great stay. The chalets are equipped with just about everything you could need to make yourself a nice meal. We were so impressed with the "little things" such as plastic wrap so that we could make sandwiches for our next day hike. The chalet was not heated but was had two large heaters in the main living area and the bedroom. The April nights may be cold for those who are used to hot weather. The owner Nick has great information about the sights in Bicheno. He was particularily helpful in telling us where to spot penguins (the Bicheno Blowhole!). Overall this was our favorite accomodation in Australia.

We spent 2 days in this place (in the boathouse), very casual atmosphere, Bicheno is a nice small town. The boathouse itself has a nice view on the ocean, but could need a revamp in some rooms. We had bbq on the deck (with visit of possums), very quiet place, the problem we encountered during our stay couldn't be found/handled immediately (strange smell in kitchen), we got a compensation afterwards, but would have rather seen the problem solved during our stay.
Recommend it for families with kids.

With a little bit of tender loving care this place would be fantastic. The setting is right on the waterfront and there is lots of wildlife around. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable but it was showing signs of wear and could do with a good paint and a revamp eg the shower door had a crack in it. There was a barbeque on the verandah but we could halfway through cooking our dinner and the gas ran out. Despite that, we still enjoyed our stay.

My partner and I stayed here whilst on our honeymoon. we wanted to do Hobart to Launcheston, including a few days on the Freycinet Peninsula on the way. Bicheno Hideaway is good value for money and unique. The local wildlife is a big plus point and we shared our stay with wallabies, peacocks, possums, chucks, exotic birds etc.... 'Chalets' are v comfortable with all mod cons. Would recommend only 20 mins to wineglass
